Whit Merrifield got hurt in practice hours after the Braves signed him to help replace the injured Ozzie Albies

The Braves might be cursed this season.

The Atlanta Braves went into this season among the favorites to win the National League pennant and World Series. And though it’s only July, luck clearly hasn’t been on the Braves’ side this season.

On Monday, it possibly got even worse.

Braves star second baseman Ozzie Albies suffered a fractured wrist in Sunday’s series finale against the Cardinals. The Albies injury forced Atlanta to call up prized prospect Nacho Alvarez Jr. and to take a flyer on 3-time All-Star Whit Merrifield (recently DFA’d by the Phillies) for some added infield depth.

Well, Merrifield hardly made it out of the clubhouse before he became the latest Braves player to get hurt.

Merrifield took a grounder off his throwing hand while participating in infield workouts, and he left the field to get evaluated by the Atlanta training staff. Braves manager Brian Snitker was almost at a loss for words when he told reporters about Merrifield’s incident.

“Can’t make it up,” Snitker said of the bad injury luck this season. The Braves lost MVP Ronald Acuña Jr. to an ACL injury early in the season, and Spencer Strider also suffered a season-ending injury after two starts. Max Fried, Michael Harris II and Albies are currently on the IL. It’s been rough.

Merrifield did avoid a fracture, so there’s that.

But Braves fans could not believe that Merrifield already got hurt.

Juan Soto stole Ozzie Albies’ batting gloves for some cheeky revenge after a force out

Soto, no swiping!

Juan Soto may have been tagged out on this play, but he definitely got his revenge on Ozzie Albies.

On Sunday, the San Diego Padres were visiting the Atlanta Braves for the last game of a four-game series. During the top of the first, the Padres were looking to draw first blood with Soto on base having won two games in the series already. Unfortunately, Nelson Cruz grounded into a fielder’s choice as Albies forced out Soto with a tag on second to end the inning.

After the force out, Soto grabbed Albies’ batting gloves out of his back pocket and tossed them on the ground in a cheeky bit of revenge.

Clearly, Soto was just messing around here to give Albies some more work to do before heading off for the inning, as no one on the Braves side took offense. No harm, no foul! But, at the very least, Soto got some sweet, sweet revenge.

MLB fans could not get enough of Joey Votto and Ozzie Albies’s wholesome mic’d up exchange

The duo we never knew we needed in our lives.

Joey Votto and Ozzie Albies is the duo we never knew we needed in our lives.

On Opening Day on Thursday, the Cincinnati Reds were in town visiting the reigning World Series champions in the Atlanta Braves to kick off the season. Reds’ first baseman Joey Votto was mic’d up for the occasion with the game being on national television, also for a bit of fun because it’s Opening Day!

Baseball fans were treated to a delightful exchange between Votto and Ozzie Albies midway through the fourth inning. With Albies on first, Votto started talking to the broadcast team, looping his opponent in on the action, which resulted in an adorably wholesome moment as the Braves second baseman said hello to the audience at home.

How awesome is that? Not only that, Albies approved of Votto getting a diamond tooth!

Baseball fans were absolutely enamored with this duo, which we absolutely need more of as soon as possible.

Ozzie Albies had a wholesome FaceTime call with his dog during Braves’ World Series celebration

He’s just like us.

Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies is one of the most engaging personalities in the game. He’s seemingly always smiling and genuinely having fun out there — no matter the moment.

He’s also an extremely proud dog dad.

Albies has three pups — Puchi, Rose and Kane. He’s the kind of dog parent who maintains a dedicated Instagram account for his dogs. So when the Braves won their first World Series title in 26 years with a 7-0 Game 6 win over the Houston Astros, Ozzie knew exactly what he had to do.

He had to share the moment with his dogs via FaceTime. I mean, it doesn’t get any more relatable than that.

Puchi’s Instagram Story showed Albies on FaceTime call with his dogs during the Braves’ after-party celebration. And fans really enjoyed seeing that wholesome moment from the Braves star.

Braves star Ozzie Albies looking into the second-base camera became a hilarious meme

This was too funny.

Many Atlanta Braves fans were rightfully nervous last night until the final out was secured and their team and city were finally able to win a championship after years of suffering tough defeats in many sports.

One guy who didn’t appear to be nervous, though, was Atlanta’s star second baseman, Ozzie Albies. The two-time All-Star likes to have fun while playing the game he loves and that attitude was on full display before the start of the bottom of the 8th inning when he bent down and took a good look into the camera that is in the second base bag.

Check out Albies having some fun:

Too funny.

World Series: Atlanta’s Ozzie Albies won a free taco for everyone in the first inning of Game 1

Ozzie Albies is out here stealing bases and winning tacos

Atlanta Braves fans can thank Jorge Soler for becoming the first player to lead off the World Series with a home run, giving his team a 1-0 lead over the Houston Astros. The rest of us will be fawning over what his teammate, Ozzie Albies, did two batters later.

After beating out a single tapped back to the mound, the Braves’ infielder promptly stole second base and won free tacos from Taco Bell for everyone.

The long-running promotion offers a Doritos Locos Taco if a player steals a base in the World Series. Albies completed the task as quickly as he could, providing a free bite at any Taco Bell location in America on November 4.

The mad dash for an extra 90 feet put Albies in a truly exclusive group of MLB players to reward their fans with free food during the World Series. Only 11 other pro athletes have the honor of winning a free taco, including Trae Turner, Kevin Durant, Cameron Maybin, Francisco Lindor, Lorenzo Cain and Jacoby Ellsbury.

Mookie Betts has even done it twice!

Go ahead and plan your day around free tacos on November 4 now and don’t let Albies hard work go to waste.

Atlanta’s Ozzie Albies could only laugh after Cody Bellinger tried to pull a fast one on him at first base

Nice try, Bellinger!

The Major League Baseball playoffs are serious business where a lot is on the line with every pitch and every at-bat.

But it’s still just a game and it should be fun and it’s ok to have fun while playing these very intense games.

Dodgers first baseman Cody Bellinger had some fun last night when he tried to pull off a trick play and failed. That led to him and Atlanta’s Ozzie Albies sharing a laugh at first base.

Here’s what happened: Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías threw a high pick-off attempt to first that Bellinger had to jump to catch. He then tried to act like the ball got away from him to see if Albies would try to go to second and then the Dodgers could get him out.

Albies, and his first base coach, didn’t bite on it, though:

Nice try, Bellinger!

Switch-hitter Ozzie Albies makes bold call to bat right vs. RHP, proceeds to hit the go-ahead HR

Well, that worked.

The Atlanta Braves are leading a tight race for the NL East crown with the Phillies and Mets both within four games in the final few weeks of the season. And if the Braves are able to hold off their surging division rivals, a clutch decision from second baseman Ozzie Albies is going to deserve some of that credit.

The Braves opened up a long homestand on Tuesday with an 8-5 win over the Nationals. The game saw the Braves blow a 5-1 lead in the seventh inning. But with Atlanta needing a quick response, the switch-hitting Albies decided to take a different approach against right-handed pitcher Ryne Harper.

Instead of batting from the left side as he normally would, Albies stepped to the plate as a right-handed batter. Guess what happened next …

Albies drove a 3-1 breaking ball to left-center field for the go-ahead, 2-run homer. It was his fourth straight game with a home run.

After the game, the first question was about the decision to hit from the right side against a righty. Albies said he told manager Brian Snitker that he was going to bat righty to handle Harper’s breaking pitches. Snitker didn’t have any objection.

“Do whatever you want,” Snitker apparently said.

And hey, Albies knows how to choose his spots for righty vs. righty matchups. He’s 3 for 9 with 2 home runs and a walk for his career in that scenario. He should consider doing that more often.
