UFC Fight Night 241 video: Oumar Sy dominates, taps Tuco Tokkos in impressive debut

Oumar Sy is one to keep an eye on, bringing an impressive grappling game to the UFC’s light heavyweight division.

[autotag]Oumar Sy[/autotag] may not be here to smile and have fun, but he made his intentions very clear in an impressive debut victory on the prelims of UFC Fight Night 241.

The undefeated light heavyweight Frenchman put his wrestling prowess on display early inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, wasting little time getting his opponent Tuco Tokkos to the mat. At 3:43 of Round 1, Tokkos (10-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) tapped to a tight rear-naked choke, handing Sy (10-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) his first UFC victory.

Check out video of the finish below (via X):

Sy entered as a heavy favorite at the betting window, proving oddsmakers correct. The 28-year-old is a highly-touted fighter from France who has turned a lot of heads, recording seven first-round finishes in just 10 professional bouts.

Newcomer steps into UFC Fight Night 241 on four days’ notice

A former Bellator and Road to UFC combatant has signed and will fight Oumar Sy on four days’ notice.

Four days out from UFC Fight Night 241, the lineup was tweaked.

Former Bellator and Road to UFC fighter [autotag]Tuco Tokkos[/autotag] has filled a void left by [autotag]Antonio Trocoli[/autotag] and will fight [autotag]Oumar Sy[/autotag], promotion officials confirmed Tuesday after an initial report by Al Zullino. The light heavyweight bout takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Tucos (10-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) originally entered the international spotlight in Bellator but was released after an 0-2 stint with the promotion. Since then, he’s gone 6-1 with his lone loss a brutal knockout against current UFC fighter Zhang Mingyang on Road to UFC in June 2022. He enters Saturday’s bout on a three-fight winning streak.

It’s unclear why Trocoli (12-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) withdrew. The 33-year-old Brazilian continues to have issues stepping in the UFC cage. He was signed off Dana White’s Contender Series in 2019, but then released after a drug test came back positive. He was signed again in 2022, but withdrew from a bout vs. Ovince Saint Preux. It’s unclear if he remained on the roster before his reappearance in the booking vs. Sy.

Sy (9-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is also a promotional debutant. He previously competed for KSW and ARES FC among other promotions and has seven finishes (four knockouts and three submissions) in seven pro wins. Once he debuts, Sy will register the fourth-longest reach in promotion history at 83.9″.

With the change, the UFC Fight Night 241 fight card includes:

Great lengths: The 12 longest reaches in UFC history

Check out the 12 longest reaches in UFC history – with a newcomer set to break the record by 2.5 inches.

As much as skill and technique play into how MMA fights unfold, intangibles can present insurmountable obstacles for even the most well-equipped combatant.

Long reaches, and how a fighter utilizes them, can pose a myriad of problems for opponents when they struggled to get inside. In UFC history, few fighters’ biological builds have surpassed 80 inches – and fewer have creeped toward 90 inches. But it’s happened.

At Saturday’s UFC 299, the all-time record for the longest reach will be broken – by 2.5 inches.

The 12 fighters have a combined professional MMA record of 210-74-2, including a combined UFC record of 85-47.

Check out the dozen fighters listed below who were able to touch up their opponents with punches from a farther distance than any others in history, using data from database Tapology.
