In the world of college football and sports for that matter, logos can be king. When looking around the sports world you can see the Dallas Cowboys’ star or the New York Yankees’ NY logo. These are some of the most recognizable logos in the world, not just for sports. They are an important part of branding.
In the college world, it can be the Oklahoma Sooners’ OU or even the Texas Longhorns’ silhouette. There are a handful of logos people recognize, and while it might not mean much to some, it can be a tool for recruiting. After all the high school recruits are often drawn to teams with cool colors, uniform sets or maybe the helmet themselves. So where does Oklahoma rank among its peers?
Well, our colleagues at UGA Wire put together the top 25 most recognizable logos in college sports. The Sooners were among the top 10 and not far behind their most hated rivals, Texas.
The Sooners are No. 8 on the list.
The interlocking OU is beautifully formed and the simple script is an eye-catcher.
The top Big 12 school on the list was the Texas Longhorns who came in at No. 3.
The burnt orange steer horns, introduced in 1961, mean only one thing… Texas. It’s simplicity is perfect.
West Virginia was the third and final Big 12 team to make the list at No. 22.
