Previewing Thursday’s Winnipeg Jets at Ottawa Senators NHL betting odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Ottawa Senators (1-1-1) will look to bounce back from a 4-3 overtime loss Tuesday in their second game of three straight against the Winnipeg Jets (2-1-0). Puck drop at Canadian Tire Centre is set for 7 p.m. ET Thursday; the two will clash in Winnipeg Saturday. Below, we analyze the Jets-Senators NHL betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

  • Money line: Jets -130 (bet $130 to win $100) | Senators +110 (bet $100 to win $110)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Jets -1.5 (+200) | Senators +1.5 (-250)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Jets at Senators: Projected starting goalies

Connor Hellebuyck (1-1-0, .921 SV%, 2.51 GAA) vs. Matt Murray (1-1-1, .890 SV%, 3.30 GAA)

Hellebuyck gave way to backup Laurent Brossoit for the first game against the Sens. The reigning Vezina Trophy winner stopped 35 of 37 shots in a loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs Monday.

The Sens seem committed to getting their money’s worth from Murray after signing him to a 4-year, $25 million contract in the offseason. He’s expected to make a fourth straight start over backup Marcus Hogberg.

Jets at Senators: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Senators 3, Jets 2

Money line (ML)

The SENATORS (+110) are the play at plus-money after outplaying the Jets in the first meeting. Ottawa registered 55.56% of the total shot attempts (including blocked and missed shots) at 5-on-5, and it doubled up Winnipeg in scoring chances 24-12.

The Senators scored twice in five power-play opportunities Tuesday and the Jets went 1-for-5 with the man advantage. The Jets will get a boost Thursday with Hellebuyck returning to the net, but the Sens are the play as the much better team from Tuesday.

Against the spread (ATS)

I’m fine with paying up for the SENATORS +1.5 (-250) on the puck line. This gives Ottawa the insurance of another narrow, 1-goal loss in regulation, overtime, or a shootout.

The Jets were on the second half of a back-to-back Tuesday and Hellebuyck has a knack for stealing games. They should come out with a better effort, but this will be another close game.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 6 (+100). Both teams are without a key offensive player with LW Patrik Laine (upper body) sidelined for Winnipeg and rookie LW Tim Stutzle (undisclosed) out for Ottawa.

A rested Hellebuyck should turn in a strong performance and Murray is yet to play his best this season.

Winnipeg Jets at Ottawa Senators odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Winnipeg Jets at Ottawa Senators NHL betting odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Ottawa Senators (1-1-0) host the Winnipeg Jets (1-1-0) for the first game of a two-game set just outside of Canada’s capital city Tuesday. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Jets-Senators NHL betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

These two teams will play Tuesday and Thursday in Ottawa and then relocate to Winnipeg for a third straight head-to-head contest. The Jets are coming off a 3-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs Monday. The Senators took a 3-2 loss against the Maple Leafs Saturday and have been off for two days.

Jets at Senators: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 1:25 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Jets -110 (bet $110 to win $100) | Senators -105 (bet $105 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Jets -1.5 (+225) | Senators +1.5 (-275)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Jets at Senators: Projected starting goalies

Laurent Brossoit (2019-20 stats: 6-7-1, .895 SV%, 3.28 GAA) vs. Matt Murray (1-1-0, .905 SV%, 3.02 GAA)

Brossoit is expected to draw into the net Tuesday with starter Connor Hellebuyck facing 37 shots and taking the loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs Monday. The rarely used backup is 2-1-1 with an .899 save percentage in five career appearances against the Sens.

Murray figures to be heavily used by the Senators this season after signing a 4-year, $25-million contract in the offseason. The former Pittsburgh Penguins netminder has a .900 SV% and 3.01 GAA in five career games against the Jets.

Jets at Senators: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Senators 4, Jets 3

Money line (ML)

The SENATORS (-105) are a nice value play as home underdogs against a tired opponent. Brossoit will make his first start since Feb. 25 of last season. The Sens are rested, and a much-improved, young team should be high on confidence after splitting a two-game set against a heavily favored Maple Leafs squad.

Both teams are at the bottom of the league in analytics, such as Corsi For percentage and scoring chances for, but they’ve also faced better competition than they’ll see against each other.

Both power-play units have struggled, but look for the Senators to draw a few more opportunities against a tired and potentially less-disciplined opponent. The two-day rest advantage for a young team early in this unique season should prove highly beneficial.

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS on the puck line. If the Senators pull off the slight upset, it’s most likely to come by a single-goal margin. There’s much better value in backing Ottawa to win outright rather than paying up for the single goal of insurance in the event of a loss.

Over/Under (O/U)

Back the OVER 6 (-120). There’s plenty of offensive firepower on both sides and Brossoit rarely inspires confidence when spelling Hellebuyck.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Ottawa Senators odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Ottawa Senators NHL betting odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Ottawa Senators begin their 2021 NHL season Friday against the rival Toronto Maple Leafs (1-0-0) at Canadian Tire Centre. Puck drop will be at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Maple Leafs-Senators NHL betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Maple Leafs opened their season with a 5-4 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens on home ice Wednesday.

Maple Leafs at Senators: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:39 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Maple Leafs -200 (bet $200 to win $100) | Senators +175 (bet $100 to win $175)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Maple Leafs -1.5 (+120) | Senators +1.5 (-145)
  • Over/Under: 6.5 (O: -135 | U: +110)

Maple Leafs at Senators: Projected starting goalies

Frederik Andersen (1-0-0, .875 SV%, 3.79 GAA) vs. Matt Murray (2019-20 stats: 20-11-5, .899 SV%, 2.87 GAA)

Andersen stopped 28 of 32 shots in Wednesday’s season-opening win in a game filled with sloppy turnovers and defensive mistakes by both teams. He played the Senators just once last season and allowed 3 goals on 26 shots but got the win.

Murray signed a 4-year, $25-million contract with the Sens this offseason after his rights were acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins. He’s a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Penguins but declined over the past several seasons.

Maple Leafs at Senators: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Senators 5, Maple Leads 3

Money line (ML)

The SENATORS (+175) offer plenty of value while matched up against one of the top public betting favorites in the NHL. Toronto snuck out the 5-4 win in its season-opener Wednesday but it took overtime and Montreal led for much of regulation.

Ottawa is vastly improved from the team that went a combined 54-81-18 over the past two seasons. The Leafs are still the superior team at both ends of the ice and in net, but they’re still too mistake-prone to trust while laying -200 in this young season.

Against the spread (ATS)

The SENATORS +1.5 (-145) can also be backed on the puck line with 1 goal of insurance in the event of a loss. They’re much more talented up front than they’ve been the last several seasons and will be able to hang with Toronto’s elite forwards and capitalize on early-season miscues.

The Sens last played March 11 of last season and the roster is hardly recognizable from the one that last took the ice in a competitive game. They’ll be an early surprise this season and it’s likely to take the oddsmakers a while to adjust the odds to their expectations.

Over/Under (O/U)

Hammer the OVER 6.5 (-135), even though it’s the side of the line being heavily juiced. The Maple Leafs played to a total of 9 goals against the Canadiens Wednesday and the Senators’ new-look roster is sure to take some time to gel with no true preseason play.

Expect plenty of mistakes and an exciting, high-scoring game as a result. Sorry, goalies.
