Georgia TE announces return for senior season

Georgia junior tight end announces that he is returning for his senior year at UGA

Georgia Bulldogs tight end Oscar Delp is returning for a senior season. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound tight end is coming off a moderately productive 2024 season.

Delp posted a Pro Football Focus grade of 56.4 during his junior season. He was ranked as the No. 193 prospect in the 2025 NFL draft, but is instead opting to return to UGA for another season.

“I’m back,” said Delp via social media. “Let’s get it.” Delp will be part of a talented Georgia tight end room in 2025. Georgia is returning Lawson Luckie, who was Georgia’s fourth-leading receiver with 24 receptions for 348 yards and three receiving touchdowns in 2024.

UGA also returns true freshman tight end Jaden Reddell. The Dawgs did lose senior tight end Ben Yurosek, who posted 15 receptions for 185 yards in 2024, to the 2025 NFL draft.

Delp recorded 21 catches for 248 yards and four touchdowns during the 2024 college football season. He is expected to be Georgia’s top tight end along with Lawson Luckie in 2025. Georgia also signed talented tight end recruits Elyiss Williams (five-star) and Ethan Barbour (four-star).

Oscar Delp builds off of statement he made against Tennessee

Oscar Delp made his presence known in Georgia’s 31-17 win over Tennessee, and kept it rolling on Saturday against UMass.

Oscar Delp hit a new high in last Saturday’s 31-17 victory over the visiting Tennessee Volunteers, finishing out with four receptions for 56 yards and two touchdowns.

That made him Georgia’s second-leading receiver in total receptions for the night, but their first in scoring, earning him plenty of praise from quarterback Carson Beck as one of his most reliable targets within a corps of pass-catchers that has been notorious from drops this season.

“I thought we had a really good game plan going into it and our tight ends really stepped up. All of those guys made some really good plays,” Beck had said after the game.

“Obviously, Oscar was able to get into the end zone, and on that first touchdown pass, he made a great play on that ball down the middle. But I was super proud of him and the way he stepped up in this game.”

Delp kept that rolling into the next game quite literally with the first Georgia touchdown of the 59-21 win over UMass on Saturday, a 17-yarder from Beck that he took straight to the end zone.

Beck doesn’t see Delp’s sudden rise as a product of anything that he was lacking in previously.

“I don’t think anything was missing (before),” Beck said. Obviously, the play-calling and then obviously, him being the one who was in there. You know, those guys rotated a lot in the tight end room and we have a lot of talented tight ends. But I think he’s just been in the right spot and ended up making the plays.”

And the success Delp has had is a pure product of the work he has put in, now reaping the reward of more limelight after previously flying under the radar.

“Oscar’s working hard,” Smart said. “He competes… and these guys are workers… Carson (Beck) does a good job getting him the ball and I’m proud of those guys’ competitive nature.”

The way Delp tightroped down the sideline turned heads on what was no easy trip to the end zone to make.

“He kind of made that one (on the touchdown),” Smart said. “You can’t say it was a play-action… he broke a tackle and he burst on the sideline and got the ball across the goal line.”

How Delp continues to build upon his 2025 NFL Draft stock will be something to watch as the Bulldogs face in-state rival Georgia Tech on Friday.

Next man up mentality helps Georgia silence critics vs. Tennessee

Georgia’s “next man up” mentality silences the doubters. Here’s three Bulldogs who stepped up against Tennessee

The 31-17 win over the Tennessee Volunteers was huge for the Georgia Bulldogs. Three Georgia players, who are going to play a crucial role moving forward, stepped up against Tennessee.

Tight End Oscar Delp

Before the game, Oscar Delp’s season total were nine catches for 119 yards. Delp was huge contributor in the win. He went for four catches 56 yards and two touchdowns. Delp showcased his talent and came up clutch when it mattered most especially after Dillon Bell went out with an injury. His performance was a key factor in securing the victory, proving his value as a reliable playmaker.

Outside Linebacker Chaz Chambliss

Chaz Chambliss has been a key contributor since his freshman year at Georgia and he had his best performance pass rushing performance of his career against Tennessee. Chambliss recorded four tackles, two sacks, and two tackles for losses helped the defense shut out Tennessee’s offense in the second half.

He also checked into the game as a fullback and delivered a crucial block to help running back Nate Frazier get into the endzone for the lead to be extended to 31-17. Chambliss is now tied with Jalon Walker for the team lead in sacks with five and 1/2.

Offensive Tackle Monroe Freeling

The left tackle position was questioned after Earnest Greene’s performance in last week’s loss against the Ole Miss Rebels. Monroe Freeling earned his first career start against a strong Tennessee defensive line led by future first-round pick James Pearce Jr. He excelled in protecting Carson Beck’s blindside, playing a key role in the offensive line’s outstanding performance, which allowed no sacks.

Georgia Bulldogs 2024 tight end position preview

Georgia football has a trio of options at tight end including third-team All-SEC selection Oscar Delp

The Georgia Bulldogs lost star tight end Brock Bowers to the 2024 NFL draft, but Georgia still has one of the nation’s top tight end rooms. Georgia returns Oscar Delp for the 2024 college football season. Delp started when Brock Bowers was hurt last year and is a third-team All-SEC selection.

“I think it just kind of happened over time,” said Delp on becoming the leader of the Georgia tight end room. Beyond Delp is sophomore Lawson Luckie and Stanford graduate transfer Benjamin Yurosek. We think Yurosek will eventually become Georgia’s No. 2 tight end, but for now he is still adjusting to UGA’s system.

That trio figures to play the majority of Georgia’s snaps at tight end. Georgia also has two true freshmen in Jaden Reddell and Colton Heinrich. Reddell, a former four-star recruit, had a strong spring practice and is more likely to see snaps than Heinrich. He is one injury away from being part of Georgia’s tight ends rotation.

  2. Lawson Luckie (Sophomore)
  3. Benjamin Yurosek (Graduate Transfer)
  4. Jaden Reddell (Freshman)

Stanford transfer Benjamin Yurosek is excellent after the catch and has even received some carries in his college career. Look for him to replace some of Brock Bowers’ rushing production.

Where does Georgia turn with Brock Bowers sidelined?

Outlook for Georgia’s offense with Brock Bowers out…

Georgia lost its best player in Saturday’s 37-20 win at Vanderbilt. Star tight end Brock Bowers will miss extended time due to an ankle injury that required TightRope surgery. It’s possible we will not see Bowers on the field the rest of the regular season.

Bowers’ overall impact is immeasurable. He leads Georgia in receptions (41), receiving yards (567) and total touchdowns (5) this season. Bowers is additionally Georgia’s best blocking tight end. Where does Georgia turn with its Heisman hopeful sidelined?

The Bulldogs are headed into their toughest stretch of the season. Georgia will travel to Jacksonville to take on the Florida Gators on Oct. 28. Then UGA has three straight top-20 matchups on the slate: No. 20 Missouri at home (Nov. 4), No. 13 Ole Miss at home (Nov. 11) and No. 17 Tennessee in Knoxville (Nov. 18).

While a player of Bowers’ caliber isn’t simply replaceable, the Dawgs have the talent on offense to keep things on track. That starts with sophomore tight end Oscar Delp, who will step into the starting role.

Delp came to Athens as the No. 1 tight end in the country in the 2022 recruiting class, per 247Sports. He spent last season behind Bowers and 2023 NFL draft pick Darnell Washington, but has played extensively this year as the No. 2 option in the tight end room.

Delp has 13 catches for 160 yards and two touchdowns this season. He’s the Bulldogs’ next best option in terms of experience and familiarity with the Mike Bobo offense. Bobo spent last year with the tight end room as an offensive analyst before moving to offensive coordinator this year.

True freshmen tight ends Lawson Luckie and Pearce Spurlin III are the options besides Delp. Luckie, who came to Athens as the No. 2 tight end in the 2023 class, is healthy following TightRope surgery in fall camp. He played seven snaps on Saturday.

Spurlin was rated as the No. 5 tight end in the same class and has also battled injuries. He missed the entirety of spring practice due to a broken collarbone and has appeared in three games this season, most recently against Kentucky.

It’s safe to say the Georgia offense will not utilize 12-personnel looks as often with the depth concerns at tight end. Head coach Kirby Smart acknowledged that when Luckie went down in August.

“It’s a position that, if you have the luxury of depth at receiver, you don’t have to play as much 12,” Smart said. “If you’ve got 12 personnel, you’d better have two viable backups there, and we’ve certainly worked towards that.”

The good news is the Bulldogs are healthy at receiver for the first time this season. Junior Ladd McConkey has worked his way back from a back injury that caused him to miss the first four games of the season. McConkey has been the go-to option on third downs for quarterback Carson Beck.

Senior wideout Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint is having his best season as a Bulldog, and transfers Rara Thomas and Dominic Lovett seem to be growing more comfortable in their roles each week.

The outlook would be much bleaker if the Bulldogs didn’t have one of the best defenses in the country. That said, Georgia’s offense will look differently without Bowers and the UGA staff will have to find a way to utilize the receivers more in his absence. The Dawgs have two weeks to figure things out before they face the Gators.

Star TE Brock Bowers making big impact on young Georgia TEs

Sophomore TE Oscar Delp describes ‘huge’ impact Brock Bowers has been…

It’s not a bad idea to take advantage of having one of the best college football players in the country in your position group. That’s just what Georgia sophomore tight end Oscar Delp has done while playing behind All-American Brock Bowers.

Delp has an important role this season as the Bulldogs look to replace the production lost from 2023 third-round NFL draft pick Darnell Washington. The former four-star recruit has developed a close relationship with Bowers and acknowledges the “huge” impact that has made on his young career.

“It’s huge. I mean, having a guy like that in our room to kind of teach me and the younger guys and everyone else in that room, it’s huge,” Delp said last week. “I mean, he’s an awesome dude. He’s one of my best friends on the team, and we’re hanging out all the time. But just the way he approaches practice and meetings and walk-throughs and everything, it really puts everything in a different perspective, and I think it pushes everyone in the room a little bit more.”

Georgia has no shortage of talent in the tight end room with Bowers, Delp and two of the nation’s top players in the 2023 recruiting class — Lawson Luckie and Pearce Spurlin.

Bowers is on pace to finish his collegiate career as one of the best at the position in history. The 2022 Mackey Award winner has already amassed 119 receptions for 1,824 yards and 20 touchdowns, along with 165 yards rushing on 15 carries and four scores on the ground through two seasons.

Bowers returns as the No. 1 option in the group, followed by Delp and Spurlin. Luckie recently underwent surgery to repair an ankle injury. The timetable for his return is unknown.

“It’s week to week. I won’t know exactly what [the time table] is,” Smart said. “We’ve had Arian [Smith] came back in three or four weeks from a similar injury. We’ve had guys take five weeks, guys take six weeks. I can’t tell you. I don’t know. It’s how he handles it and how he tolerates his recovery. Ron [Courson] and his staff are going to do the best job they can to get him back.”

Five hypothetical SEC trades that would make sense for LSU

In an imaginary world where college football had trades, here are five moves that LSU could make.

Very few discussions can eat up space like a good old trade debate.

Anytime the trade deadline rolls around in professional sports, fans wait on the edge of their seats eager to see what their team might do. College football has the transfer portal, but it’s just not as much fun as a trade. With it being the off-season, it’s time to look at what could happen if trades were allowed.

I’m not advocating for trades to be a thing in college sports. Since players are also getting an education, they should be able to choose which school they attend and not be at the whim of a general manager like many professional athletes are. This is just a fun way to look at rosters for the upcoming year.

LSU patched up a few holes in the transfer portal this year, but there are still some glaring needs. It could use a tight end, and there are some SEC teams that have a tight end to give away. The Tigers are also well positioned at other places, such as running back, where they have some room to trade a player away.

In the imaginary world of college football trades, here’s what would make the most sense for LSU.

Georgia’s TE room gets even better: 4-star Oscar Delp signs

Delp is a Dawg.

The nation’s No. 2 ranked tight end signed with Georgia this morning.

Oscar Delp, who ranks as the No. 89 overall player in the nation, put pen to paper and signed with Georgia on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.

Delp is a 4-star out of West Forsyth High School in Cumming, Georgia. He picked the Bulldogs in October over Michigan, Clemson and South Carolina.

Delp (6-foot-5, 220 pounds) has been regarded as one of the most coveted prospects in his class.

Delp cited the Bulldogs’ use of freshman tight end Brock Bowers, who leads the team in receiving, as one of the reasons for his decision.

“A dream come true,” Delp said.
