Oscar De La Hoya gets more specific about his comeback

Oscar De La Hoya announced that he will return to the ring on July 3.

Oscar De La Hoya has teased a comeback repeatedly. However, this time he has provided a specific date: July 3.

The hall of famer made the announcement alongside Snoop Dogg during a news conference Friday to promote the upcoming Jake Paul-Ben Askren fight. He didn’t indicate who he will fight or where it would take place.

However, Triller’s Ryan Kavanaugh told Yahoo Sports that De La Hoya wants to fight fellow retiree Floyd Mayweather. And De La Hoya and his associates reportedly are scouting a number of locations, including Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

De La Hoya, 48, hasn’t fought since he was knocked out by Manny Pacquiao in 2008. His comeback was inspired by the return of Mike Tyson, who faced Roy Jones Jr. in a lucrative exhibition on Nov. 28.

The Golden Boy had said last year that he planned to face a current contender. However, a second meeting with Mayweather would generate a windfall for both men with little risk.

Mayweather defeated De La Hoya by a split decision in May 2007. The fight was the most-lucrative boxing event in history at the time.

Oscar De La Hoya was one of the best fighters of his era. Was.

The Golden Boy hasn’t fought since Manny Pacquiao destroyed him in eight rounds in 2008. De La Hoya hung up his gloves for good after that ignoble end to a wonderful career.

Or did he?

De La Hoya, apparently following the lead of geezers Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield, has been teasing an unlikely comeback at 47 years old. And he’s not talking about exhibitions, as Tyson and Holyfield are. He says he wants to take part in sanctioned fights.

Is this a good idea?

DAZN commentators Chris Mannix and Sergio Mora give their thoughts on this episode of Jabs with Mannix and Mora.
