The Oregon State Beavers (0-0) and the San Jose State Spartans (0-1) meet Sunday at CEFCU Stadium in San Jose, Calif. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Oregon State at San Jose State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Beavers can put the distraction of conference realignment, and the Pac-12 falling apart, behind them as their season kicks off Sunday. While there is uncertainty for the future, Oregon State’s immediate future is bright with QB D.J. Uiagalelei taking the reins under center after transferring in from Clemson.

The Spartans already have a game under their belt after getting doubled up 56-28 at USC last Saturday. San Jose State was able to hang in for the backdoor cover as a 31-point underdog, scoring a TD with 5:08 left in regulation. The Over (65.5) also comfortably cashed in the loss.

Oregon State is No. 18 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Oregon State at San Jose State picks and predictions

Prediction

Oregon State 38, San Jose State 24

Moneyline

Oregon State (-800) enters this game with a little bit of hype, starting the former Heisman Trophy candidate under center. While hope springs eternal in Corvallis, this is still a lot of money to lay in an opener, especially on the road.

While San Jose State (+550) looked pretty shabby on defense last week, QB Chevan Cordeiro and the offense is quite formidable.

The best course of action is to PASS, and not risk 8 times your potential return.

Against the spread

SAN JOSE STATE +16.5 (-115) is catching more than 2 TDs at home in a rare Sunday date. While the Spartans didn’t fare terribly well slowing down USC’s offense last week, the pass game for the Spartans was able to do some things, especially in the second half.

I don’t believe the Spartans are going to pull off the upset, suffering a 2nd straight loss against a ranked Pac-12 opponent. However, San Jose State has the offensive firepower to at least keep it within a pair of scores.

Over/Under

OVER 54.5 (-105) might be the best play on the board.

The quarterback play is going to be exceptional with Uiagalelei and Cordeiro exchanging haymakers on offense. It’s a bad day to be in the secondary on either side, because there is going to be a lot of negative tape. Go high, and feel confident in doing so.
