No. 1 EDGE in 2024 class to visit Oregon this weekend

The Ducks have some high-profile recruits coming to town this weekend, and will now add 2024 5-star EDGE Colin Simmons to the list.

With the weekend comes the end of the recruiting dead period in college football, and the Oregon Ducks have a nice list of visitors on their way to Eugene.

Earlier in the week, it was announced that Duce Robinson, the No. 1 TE in the 2023 class, will be at Oregon for a visit, and now it’s come out that Colin Simmons, the No. 1 EDGE in the 2024 class will be in town as well.

At 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, Simmons is the No. 1 ranked player in the state of Texas and is the No. 18 player in the 2024 class, per 247Sports.

It is too early in his recruitment for Simmons to have a list of top schools, but he has some high-profile offers from the usual heavy-hitters — Alabama, Georgia, USC, Miami, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and many more. We will see after his visit this weekend if the Ducks can get an early lead in his recruitment.

5-star TE recruit set to visit Oregon Ducks this weekend

The Ducks will host Duce Robinson, the No. 1 TE in the 2023 class on a recruiting visit this weekend.

The Oregon Ducks have done a good job of recruiting the state of Arizona over the past few years. That started with Mario Cristobal and his coaching staff, and has continued with Dan Lanning’s staff thanks to offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham’s connections in the state.

So far in the past six months, the Ducks have landed 4-star CB Cole Martin out of Phoenix, as well as 4-star WR Kyler Kasper, from Chandler. Before that, the Ducks got 5-star QB Ty Thompson from that area as well.

Now Oregon might have an opportunity to land 5-star TE Duce Robinson, the No. 1 TE in the 2023 recruiting class. Robinson, who stands at 6-foot-6, will be taking a visit to Eugene this weekend as the recruiting dead-period comes to an end.

According to 247Sports, Robinson ranks as the No. 20 overall player in the 2023 class. He is currently projected to land with the USC Trojans according to several Crystal Ball predictions, but we’ll see if the Ducks can get in on the action this weekend with a successful visit, and the alure of playing with 5-star Oregon QB commit Dante Moore. Time will tell.

4-star DL and major Oregon Ducks target announces commitment date

The Ducks will find out in the coming days if they can add another blue-chip prospect to their defensive line in the 2023 class.

In the coming days, the Oregon Ducks will find out whether or not they are adding a blue-chip player to their defensive line in the 2023 recruiting class.

On Tuesday afternoon, Texas 4-star DL Terrance Green announced his commitment date, stating that he would be making his college decision on August 1st, which is next Monday.

Green, who stands at 6-foot-5, 265 pounds, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 44 DL and No. 300 overall player in the 2023 class.

According to the Crystal Ball Predictions on 247Sports, Oregon is currently the heavy favorite to land Woods, with three predictions, one of which comes from Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong.

Already in the 2023 class, the Ducks have 3-star DL Tevita Pome’e, and 3-star Teitum Tuioti.

Ducks become heavy favorites to land 3-star OL out of California

The Oregon Ducks are heavy favorites to land three-star offensive lineman Bryce Boulton out of Palm Desert, California.

The Oregon Ducks are now the heavy favorites to land three-star offensive line prospect Bryce Boulton, just one day after officially extending the Palm Desert native an offer.

Oregon is only the second Power-5 program to make an offer to Boulton, behind Colorado, with the rest of his offers coming from Hawaii, Idaho, and Northern Arizona.

Boulton is a six-foot-three, 255 pound center/guard who would give Dan Lanning’s team some added depth on the frontline, a key area of need for every program and one that the Ducks are hoping to keep replenished consistently going forward.

Boulton has not made an official visit to Eugene yet, but that could be the next step if he doesn’t accept Oregon’s scholarship offer ahead of time – which could happen considering the prestige of the program, compared to the others who have made offers.

Here’s a full look at Boulton’s profile and what he could bring to Lanning’s squad if he were to make it official:

‘I don’t want to choose my college off money;’ 5-star Oregon QB Dante Moore discusses NIL

Dante Moore says that he stepped out of all NIL meetings when being recruited by Oregon. “I’m just a young kid trying to play football.”

Over the past couple of years, the recruiting landscape has changed in college football. No longer does a school just have facilities and amenities to offer to a potential prospect; now it can reasonably offer cold hard cash promises to any player who might be interested.

So far in the 2023 recruiting class, we’ve seen some astronomical NIL deals reportedly signed by high-profile players. There’s a report that five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava received $8 million from Tennessee to join the Volunteers. Not too long after, four-star QB Jaden Rashada reportedly received $9.5 million to commit to the Miami Hurricanes.

So if you’re a top-ranked QB, you’re going to get a massive bag upon commitment, right?

Well, we don’t know what type of NIL deal five-star QB Dante Moore signed with the Oregon Ducks when committing, but based on his recent comments, it doesn’t appear to be of much importance to the Detroit, Michigan, prospect.

“To be honest, like I said, NIL is a big part of everybody’s recruiting process,” Moore said. “What everybody has been saying in the articles is true. Like I said, when I go to visits … on my list for visits will be ‘NIL Meetings’ and when it comes to NIL meetings, I won’t be in the meeting. Step out of it because I don’t want to choose my college decision off money. I’m just a young kid trying to play football.”

For any fan of the Ducks, that has to be incredibly refreshing to hear. For fans of Notre Dame or Michigan — two schools who missed out on Moore — that like the claim that Oregon simply paid more than their schools, it might be tough to hear.

Oregon WR Jurrion Dickey is now a 5-star in the 2023 class

A ratings update from 247Sports gave WR Jurrion Dickey a 5th star, making him the No. 2 WR in the nation. He is now Oregon’s highest-rated WR commit ever.

After seeing his name grow in stature over the past few months thanks to some elite performances at recruiting camps across the nation, Oregon Ducks’ WR commit Jurrion Dickey can now say that he is a 5-star athlete.

Over the weekend, 247Sports gave Dickey his 5th star, rating him as the No. 2 WR in the 2023 class and the No. 13 player overall.

Per 247Sports, Dickey is rated only behind USC’s Zachariah Branch when it comes to the WR position, Dickey is also the 2nd 5-star player in Oregon’s 2023 class, with QB Dante Moore being bumped up to the No. 2 overall player in the class over the weekend as well.

Dickey saw one of the biggest jumps of the recruiting cycle this spring, going from No. 59 nationally to No. 14 overall after showing out in a few recruiting camps. Dickey is now on track to become Oregon’s highest-rated wide receiver commit in program history. Cameron Colvin was a five-star in the 2004 class, but he was rated as the No. 3 receiver in the country.

Oregon 5-star QB Dante Moore jumps up to No. 2 prospect in 2023 class, per 247Sports

5-star QB Dante Moore is rising quickly. 247Sports now has him ranked as the No. 2 overall player in the 2023 class, behind only Arch Manning.

Going into this spring, you couldn’t argue the fact that 5-star quarterback Dante Moore was an elite player, and among the best in the 2023 class. After seeing what he’s done through the camp circuit, though, there was no way that you could keep him ranked where he was inside the top-10 players in the nation.

Previously ranked as the No. 8 player in the class, and No. 4 QB in that group, Moore got bumped up quite a bit by 247Sports over the weekend. Now, according to the 247Sports Top-10, Moore is ranked as the No. 2 overall player in the class, and the No. 2 QB. He trails only Arch Manning, a Texas commit who is the nephew of Eli and Peyton Manning.

In the process, Moore jumped ahead of players like Nicholaus Iamaleava (Tennessee), Malachi Nelson (USC), Cormani McClain (uncommitted), and Kadyn Proctor (Iowa).

Here is the reasoning for bumping him up, per 247Sports:

To no surprise, Moore became the highest QB commit in Oregon Ducks history and also snuck into the top-5 for overall commits in Oregon history as well. Duck fans are going to have to wait a little while to see him in the green and yellow officially, but it’s pretty clear that they got a great player to root for in the future.

Where 5-star QB Dante Moore stands among highest-rated recruits in Ducks history

We know that Dante Moore is the highest-rated QB that the Ducks have ever landed. Where does he rank among Oregon’s best overall recruits though?

Earlier this month, Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks picked up their biggest recruiting win of the offseason by landing five-star quarterback Dante Moore. He ranks as one of the best players in the 2023 class, and has thrown his name into the hat to be the No. 1 ranked QB in the class.

We know where Moore stands among all-time QB commitments for Oregon — he unseated Ty Thompson as the highest-ranked QB in school history. But we wanted to broaden that scope and see how Moore stacks up against the best players to ever commit to the Ducks.

That’s a different list.

You have Kayvon Thibodeaux, Jonathan Stewart and Cameron Colvin on that list. You also have five-star offensive tackle Josh Conerly, who committed to the Ducks this spring. Where does Moore stack up against those guys? Let’s take a look:

Junior Adams named one to watch for future D-1 head coach jobs by ESPN

Oregon Ducks wide receivers coach Junior Adams was named as an assistant coach to watch for future D-1 head coaching jobs, per ESPN.

The Oregon Ducks are not only led by a 36-year-old first time head coach in Dan Lanning, they have a handful of other young, hungry coaches on staff ready to help this team break through in 2022.

Among them is wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Junior Adams, 42, who was recently named by ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg as one of 45 minority coaches under 45 who could become a D-1 head football coach in the future.

Adams came to Oregon after spending the past three seasons up north in Washington with the Huskies. He was at Boise State, Eastern Washington, and Western Kentucky before that, and played football at Oregon State and Montana State prior to coaching.

“Junior has been on the radar,” an industry source told Rittenberg. “Oregon has put together a strong and diverse staff.”

Adams has proven his worth as a recruiter already, with 247Sports ranking him the third best recruiter in the Pac-12 and 60th nationally.

He’ll get a chance to prove he is more than that once the season starts, however, as he will share offensive coordinator duties with Kenny Dillingham in their first year in Eugene.

Does Oregon have enough talent on the roster to compete for a championship in 2022?

The Blue Chip Ratio assesses whether or not a team has recruited well enough to compete for a championship. Did the Ducks make the cut?

Many things need to happen before a team can win a national championship in college football.

You need to have the right coach calling the right plays and the players executing those plays on the field. You need some injury luck and a few fortunate bounces. More than anything, though, you need talented players who can stand apart from the rest of the field. That starts with recruiting.

If a team has all of those things, there’s a good chance it can compete for a title. How do we figure out which teams are equipped for that though? Fortunately, there’s the 247Sports Blue Chip Ratio, which has been running for a number of years now. Here’s how Bud Elliot explained the ideology:

Sometimes, the most talented team in college football is the champion. Sometimes, it’s a lesser-talented team. But what is the minimum level of talent needed to win it all? That’s a potentially evolving question of interest every year.

I track that minimum required level of recruiting necessary to win a title and publish the teams who have met the standard annually in Blue-Chip Ratio. Since its inception in 2013 it’s been referenced on all the major broadcast networks and referred to by head coaches. It’s not the most complicated calculation in the world, but it’s a great way to figure out the top 10 percent or so of the teams in the sport which can actually take home the title.

Basically, a team will have an easier chance to be successful if it has more “blue chip players” — 4 and 5 star — than not. Seems simple, right? It gets more complicated than that, of course, especially in the world of the transfer portal.

After doing all of the calculations, though, the newest version of the Blue Chip Ratio is out for the 2022 season. So which 15 teams can realistically compete for a national championship this year, and where are the Oregon Ducks among them? Take a look:
