The Oregon Ducks landed another big-time player out of the transfer portal on Wednesday, getting a commitment from former Ole Miss safety Tysheem Johnson.
Johnson, a two-year starter with the Rebels, was in Eugene for a visit over the weekend. He comes to the Ducks at a major position of need, and is the second safety that the team has added via the portal this offseason.
What makes the addition of Johnson so important is the skill-set that he brings to the roster. The former Rebel plays more of a nickel safety position, rather than free safety, which is not something that the Ducks have much of on the current roster. He will undoubtedly vie for a starting spot this spring and summer in Eugene, and presents some major upside to Dan Lanning’s defense.
