Injury Report: Ducks look to be near full health going into Week 8 vs. Cougars

There were a number of injury concerns that popped up for the Oregon Ducks in their Week 7 battle with the Washington Huskies. Going into the games, there were questions about several players, including LB Jestin Jacobs, DL Brandon Dorlus, and S Bryan Addison.

During the game, we saw players like RB Jordan James, CB Khyree Jackson, CB Jahlil Florence, TE Terrance Ferguson, and C Jackson Powers-Johnson suffer some minor injuries as well.

After talking to Dan Lanning and watching practice a couple of times this week, we’ve gathered enough news to coble together an injury report for this week’s game against the Washington State Cougars.

Here’s where everything stands going into Saturday:

Several key players return to field for Ducks ahead of Texas Tech

A number of key players who missed Saturday’s game for Oregon were back on the practice field Tuesday morning.

After a number of high-profile players missed the Oregon Ducks game against the Portland State Vikings on Saturday, there was some speculation about how extensive the injury report would be for Dan Lanning’s squad this week.

After watching players take the field on Tuesday morning, it feels safe to say that those concerns are a bit overstated.

A long list of contributors returned to the field on Tuesday in full pads, including RB Noah Whittington, LB Jestin Jacobs, S Evan Williams, LB Mase Funa, TE Casey Kelly, and WR Kris Hutson.

Here is a more detailed look on each player:

  • Noah Whittington suited up for the Ducks on Saturday and was part of the opening kick coverage, but took a hard hit on the play and did not return to the field. He was in full pads on Tuesday and participated in all drills that media members were able to watch.
  • Jestin Jacobs did not suit up on Saturday, and he has been limited in practice for the past couple of weeks. He was wearing trainers on Tuesday, but did carry cleats with him into practice. He was limited from what we were able to watch.
  • Evan Williams suited up for Saturday’s game but did not play at all, sporting a large wrap on his right hand. He had the same wrap on his hand on Tuesday but appeared to be full-go in drills.
  • LB Mase Funa warmed up for the game on Saturday, but did not play at all and was in street clothes once the game started. He appeared to be full-go on Tuesday.
  • TE Casey Kelly missed practice last week and did not suit up for the game on Saturday. He appeared to be full-go on Tuesday.
  • WR Kris Hutson warmed up on Saturday, but I was unable to see if he stayed on the sideline throughout the game. He did not play in the game. He was in full pads on Tuesday and appeared to be full go.

Several players were warming up off to the side during stretching drills on Tuesday, including Jacobs, Popo Aumavae, Taki Taimani, and Teitum Tuioti. We will continue to monitor their progress throughout the week.

Jackson Powers-Johnson returns to practice for Ducks, multiple defensive linemen absent

Tuesday was a welcomed sight for Duck fans, as center Jackson Powers-Johnson returned to the field ahead of Saturday’s game.

A welcomed face was back at practice for the Oregon ducks on Tuesday morning as the team prepares for their week one game against Portland State on Saturday afternoon.

Offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson was with the team as stretches and individual work started on Tuesday morning. He was wearing cleats and appeared to be a semi-full participant in drills during the portion of practice the media members were able to watch. During some offensive line drills, Powers-Johnson did not participate in snapping the ball, but he was at the front of the rotation at the center position in other drills.

Some notable absences, we’re offensive lineman Nishad, Strother, defensive end Teitum Tuioti, and defensive lineman Tevita Pome’e.

Head coach Dan Lanning said on Monday night that they expect most of their team to be healthy for Saturday’s game, but they are going to wait and see about a few people. Strother is among the potential starters who is likely to be unavailable. He was seen wearing a sling on his right arm over the weekend, and Lanning said that he is still up in the air for Saturday’s game.

We will continue to watch at practice over the coming days to see if any of the absent players return to the field.

Bo Nix gives injury update ahead of Holiday Bowl vs. North Carolina

Bo Nix says his ankle is getting better every day as the Ducks prepare to face the Tar Heels in the Holiday Bowl.

It might be the most famous ankle injury in the history of the state of Oregon.

A collective gulp could be heard inside Autzen Stadium when Duck quarterback Bo Nix had to be helped off the field toward the end of the game against the Washington Huskies.

Nix made an heroic effort to come back into the game and he tried to lead the Ducks to a late victory, but the injury was just too much to overcome.

It was an issue the following week against Utah as the offensive game plan was tooled to Nix’s immobility. Although Oregon won the game 20-17, Nix wasn’t near 100 percent.

Now nearly a month later, Nix is still doing his best to get that ankle as healthy as possible. Oregon faces North Carolina in the Holiday Bowl Dec. 28. It’ll be 32 days in between games.

“It’s getting better,” Nix said when asked on Friday. “Trainers are still doing a really good job. I’m in there a lot for treatment. It’s doing a lot better than it was.”

The Ducks will need Nix to be somewhat close to what he was when he was close to being a Heisman candidate. Although the Tar Heels will be without some key personnel in the secondary due to transfers and opt-outs, the Ducks’ offense needs to be as dynamic as possible to come out victorious inside Petco Park in San Diego.

Injury Report: Updated news for Oregon Ducks ahead of game vs Utah

The Ducks got banged up against Washington on Saturday, and could potentially be without a few key pieces this weekend against Utah.

Obviously, no one wants to see a player go down with an injury, but when Oregon quarterback Bo Nix was being helped off the field after a hit to the knee, you could hear a pin drop inside Autzen Stadium.

The fate of the Oregon Ducks football season could rest on Nix’s knee. They need him to play. It would be the difference between a possible Pac-12 title with a trip to the Rose Bowl and an appearance in the Sun Bowl.

When asked in his Monday press conference, Ducks head coach Dan Lanning didn’t give specifics, but he said he felt better about the situation than he did Saturday night.

Besides Nix, a few other Ducks were banged up during the 37-34 loss to Washington. The Ducks don’t offer an official injury report each and every week, so we tried to compile some information from what we’ve seen and heard this week at practice and interviews.

Updated injury news for Oregon Ducks ahead of game at Arizona

An updated look at the Oregon Ducks’ injury news ahead of the Arizona game on Saturday night in the desert.

The injury report is getting shorter and shorter for the Oregon Ducks football team as the season reaches the halfway mark. Only offensive lineman Steven Jones and defensive tackle Popo Aumavae are listed as definitely out as they are both expected to miss the entire season.

But considering it’s Week 6 of the season and Oregon has an upcoming bye week, it’s rather remarkable the injury report isn’t longer. The Ducks have been bitten by the injury bug for the past few seasons, so it’s nice to see they are relatively healthy in the month of October.

If by chance they come out of Tucson unscathed, the second half of the year should be an exciting one with teams such as Washington, UCLA, California and Utah on the horizon.
