#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was asked about his ankle injury during #SuperBowlLVII opening night and said he’ll be in better spot than he was in the AFC title game.
The Kansas City Chiefs took center stage in Phoenix, Arizona during Super Bowl LVII.
Patrick Mahomes’ ankle injury remains a huge storyline ahead of the matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s already confirmed that he made it out of the AFC Championship Game against the Cincinnati Bengals no worse for wear. When he was asked about the injury during opening night, he told media members that it’s getting better.
“It’s definitely better, for sure,” Mahomes said. “Just having the rest and a few days off, but we still practiced and stuff like that. You’ll never know exactly until you get to the game, obviously. But it’s definitely in a better position than it was at this time before the last game. We’ll keep pushing it, but not doing too much because you don’t want to have any setbacks, but I haven’t had any since the game at least.”
Asked how much it might limit him during the game, Mahomes said he wouldn’t know until he got out on the field. No matter how much he’s feeling the ankle injury, he says he’s going to push it to the limit during the game.
“You won’t know until you get out there in the game,” Mahomes said. “I’m going to push it. I’ll try to leave it all out on the line. I think y’all saw that in the last game that I played. It’s about relying on your teammates and I’ve got a lot of great teammates around me. Not trying to do too much, but I definitely will be in a better spot than I was last game.”

Here’s everything we know so far about the NBA’s 2022-23 season
The NBA’s entire slate for the 2022-23 season is set to be revealed later on Wednesday.
Everyone will finally know when opening night for their favorite team is. And we’ll all get to go through the exercise of chalking up the wins and losses on the calendar month by month.
But there are some things we already actually know about the league’s overall schedule so far.
For example, we know who is playing on Christmas. We also know who is opening the season so far, too. Quite a bit has already been revealed.
So, ahead of the bigger drop, we figured we’d drop all of that information in one place for you.
Enjoy.

Not the Lakers. Not again.
Here we go again, y’all. The Lakers are reportedly back on national television. Again. This time to start the NBA season.
You’d think that maybe the NBA would’ve learned from plastering the Lakers on national television every other night last season. Fans complained all year long. But nope. We’re back at it again. Even after they completely missed the playoffs.
It’s been this way for years, obviously. But there are more than enough good basketball teams to go around. You’d think the NBA might choose one of them to headline the league’s opening night.
Instead, we’re getting Lakers vs. Warriors for the 2nd year in a row, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Scheduled for the NBA’s 2022-23 opening night and ring ceremony on TNT: Lakers at Warriors, Oct. 18, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.

Sigh. I guess you can understand this decision. LeBron James vs. Steph Curry is always going to be the biggest draw in the league while those two are playing. But, man. After such a disappointing year last year, it’d just be great to put eyes on other teams.
Maybe the NBA knows something we don’t? Maybe the Kyrie Irving trade is happening? Or maybe they just expect the Lakers to be better? Who knows?
But man. Grizzlies vs. Warriors was right there. Or maybe even the Mavericks. Or, you know, just another team that at least made the playoffs last year?
Nope. Lakers. Again. Sigh. Fans weren’t here for this.

The Super Bowl champs will host next season’s kickoff game; the Dallas Cowboys are already making a scheduled visit to Tampa.
The Buccaneers were just crowned Super Bowl champs in their home stadium to close out the 2020 NFL season. Tradition dictates they’ll launch the next season on the same field on opening night 2021.
And since each team’s upcoming opponents is already known- along with who the home team will be for each matchup- one can go down the list and take early guesses as to which Tampa Bay opponent will travel to the pirate ship to take part in the kickoff festivities.
The Dallas Cowboys could well be the visiting squad on opening night 2021.
It’s long been determined that the Cowboys will play the Bucs next season, by virtue of the divisional rotation that pits the NFC East against the NFC South teams. And Dallas already knows they’ll be heading to Tampa for that meeting. With Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott on track to be fully healthy once again and fresh off whatever contract/franchise tag drama plays out over the summer, it’s hard to imagine a higher-profile clash for the league’s next big primetime fight.
As NFL.com’s Kevin Patra points out, “The Cowboys should always be considered a contender to play in the biggest spots. If the NFL decides they don’t want to save this matchup for later in the season to goose ratings, it would make sense to put Jerry Jones’ club on kickoff night.”
The storylines write themselves.
There’s the retooled Cowboys defense taking on Brady and the high-octane Bucs attack. There’s Prescott retaking command of his offensive weaponry against former Dallas secondary coach Todd Bowles, who will by then be sporting the ring he just won as Tampa’s defensive coordinator. There’s Mike McCarthy versus Bruce Arians, two longtime coaches, each with a Super Bowl win on his resume.
And, of course, there’s the ratings bonanza that a Cowboys-Buccaneers opener would provide. The NFL kickoff game should always win the Thursday night timeslot, but the league may be looking to reassert their TV dominance with a splash after Sunday’s Super Bowl turned in a noticeable dip in viewing numbers.
The Bucs will also host the Saints, Bills, Dolphins, Bears, Falcons, Panthers, and Giants in 2021. Plans to add a 17th game to each team’s schedule have not been formally adopted.
The Cowboys held Brady largely in check the last time they faced him, in Week 12 of 2019, but Dallas lost to New England that rainy afternoon by a 13-9 score. The last time the Cowboys played Tampa Bay was the 2018 home finale in Arlington, when Dallas won the NFC East crown with a 27-20 win.
America’s Team versus the defending Super Bowl champs. The quarterback whose contract and anticipated comeback will have been front-page news for months going head-to-head with the G.O.A.T.
It may prove to be just too much for the NFL schedule makers to pass up on opening night.

On Opening Night for their former neighbor, The Golden State Warriors shared a good luck message with the Oakland Athletics.
After wishing the San Francisco Giants good luck on Opening Day, the Golden State Warriors turned their attention to their former neighbor. On Friday, the Oakland Athletics hosted the Los Angeles Angels to start a truncated edition of the 2020 MLB season.
Before the A’s took the field, the Warriors shared a message with the team on social media. Along with a video from the moment Klay Thompson tossed the first pitch in Oakland, the Warriors wished the A’s the “best of luck” for their season.

After being claimed by the A’s in 2018, Thompson’s younger brother Trayce played three games with Oakland before being designated for assignment. In February, Thompson signed a minor-league deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks for 2020.

In their opening night matchup, Frankie Montas got the nod against Andrew Heaney and the Angels. With a pair of late runs from Marcus Semien and Matt Chapman, the A’s held the lead heading into the top of the 9th inning. However, Bay Area native Jason Castro hit a home run off Oakland’s All-Star closer Liam Hendriks to tie the game.
With new rule changes in place, the A’s and Angels went into extra innings to start the season. In the bottom of the 10th, Matt Olson blasted a grand slam walk-off home run to send the Athletics home with an Opening Day victory, 7-3.
The A’s will be back at The Oakland Coliseum on Saturday for game two against Mike Trout and the Angels.
