Celebrate the start of March Madness with an all-time version of ‘One Shining Moment’

LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOO!

Everyone in the sports world was missing One Shining Moment — the song that plays underneath a montage of each year’s best men’s NCAA tournament moments after the final game of March Madness — in 2020, so much so that fans, college hoops teams and one lonely broadcaster all did their own versions despite no tournament.

Well, the men’s NCAA tournament is back starting on Thursday night. And so we got an amazing gift: an all-time montage of March Madness with Luther Vandross singing David Barrett’s tune. Yes, I got goosebumps (I also happen to be a OSM superfan, I rank each year’s version) and I’m sure you will too:

Goose. Bumps. Welcome back, tourney.

Of all the different One Shining Moment videos, this is the funniest

When Wisconsin basketball finally got their “one shining moment” thanks to amazing work by the UW video team, Badger fans were able to re-live this magical, championship season:

The tradition of One Shining Moment dates back to 1987, where CBS Sports debuted the video montage following the end of the national championship broadcast. Today, it is the anthem of college basketball. A montage that leaves college basketball fans feeling bittersweet about the incredible tournament they have just witnessed. While we did not get a traditional montage this year, there have been many different recreations of the video, including the Badger version.

Beyond just teams making their own videos, though, fans and media members have given it a try. Sportscaster Brandon Gaudin, who actually calls NCAA tournament games for Westwood One, as well as college football, basketball, and baseball for Fox Sports, put in the effort, and it paid off. All the way from the band to generic one liners from coaches, Gaudin captures the essence of “One Shining Moment” while never leaving his home. The only part that Badger fans may want to avoid is who actually wins this fake tournament. You have been warned.

How about all the equipment he used to make this thing feel real? Per Gaudin’s Twitter page, here is a photo of all the hard work:

And now check out the most realistic remake of the greatest tradition in college basketball that you will ever see:

One lonely broadcaster made an entire ‘One Shining Moment’ March Madness highlight film by himself

He plays all the characters. There are inspirational speeches. This must have taken SO much time.

Many of us are looking to fill the hours during quarantine for the coronavirus, and some of us are more creative than others.

One of those extremely creative people is braodcaster Brandon Gaudin, who took his quarantine isolation time and went and filmed a whole dang “One Shining Moment” highlight reel tribute to a March Madness tournament that never existed.

Well it did exist, in Gaudin’s imagination.

Via the Lansing State Journal:

Brandon Gaudin, who has voiced national sports broadcasts for FOX, the Big Ten Network and Westwood One, created an homage to the finale March Madness classic, “One Shining Moment.”

We’ve seen some goofy “One Shining Moment” tributes so far this quarantine, but Gaudin goes above and beyond. He has shirts from so many schools. He portrays coaches and announcers, players and team managers. He has multiple sets, action shots, hype-up montages, and more. It’s all there.

Watch and behold:

Well done, Mr. Gaudin. Thank you for spending way too much time on this.

The Badgers get their “One Shining Moment”

“One Shining Moment” is the greatest college basketball tradition. Period. The three-minute montage marks the end of the college basketball season, where after the National Championship, CBS puts together a highlight video from the entire tournament set to the Luther Vandross edition of the song. They tried Jennifer Hudson’s edition in 2010, and let’s just say it was not the same. The only substitute I could see Badger fans being ok with is Vitto Brown:

The songs lyrics line up perfectly with what March Madness means. You have one chance in this tournament to make history and to be remembered forever in college basketball lore. That chance was taken away from every team and every senior this year. Of course, there was not montage video at the end of a fantastic tournament. There was no tournament at all. But that did not stop the incredible media teams at multiple universities, including Wisconsin, from releasing their very own “One Shining Moment” videos. I don’t want to fully give credit to Utah State for starting the trend, but I did see their video first. Since then, many different schools have followed.

The Badgers released their video today, and it was worth the wait. From hill runs up Bascom to the classic voice of Matt Lepay it was everything Wisconsin basketball was in the year 2019-20. Thanks to Wisconsin Athletics and the video team, let’s enjoy Wisconsin’s “One Shining Moment.”

Watch highlights from a memorable Michigan State basketball season

The NCAA Tournament is gone, but one of its best traditions lives on.

After the men’s and women’s NCAA Tournaments were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, a number of schools started publishing their own “One Shining Moment” videos with highlights from their season. For the uninformed, “One Shining Moment” is a song that narrates a montage of highlights from the NCAA Tournament. It is played upon the conclusion of said tournament as the sort of unofficial goodbye to the college hoops season.

Today Michigan State basketball released their version of the video. You can watch it right here.

College hoops teams are making their own versions of the ‘One Shining Moment’ video

Chills.

This week was supposed to be the opening rounds of the NCAA tournament, and Monday would have been a day of breaking down the brackets, debating the paths to Atlanta (i.e. Duke’s inevitably favorable path) and complaining about snubs.

But with the cancellation of the men’s and women’s NCAA tournaments in response to the global coronavirus pandemic, college basketball fans were left without March Madness … and “One Shining Moment.”

Last week, plenty of fans put together montages that were mostly of empty arenas.

Yet, in the absence of college basketball’s famed highlight montage, college basketball teams across the country have commemorated their 2019-20 season with unique takes on “One Shining Moment.” The resulting videos served as great send-offs to an unprecedented end to the college basketball season.

This was what some of those teams put together. (Note: Teams in the Top 25 that were not included did not make “One Shining Moment” videos)

Kansas

Baylor

Dayton

Not “One Shining Moment,” but still cool.

Illinois

Indiana

Utah State

Akron

Hofstra

Richmond

ETSU

Great effort all around from those teams. Next year’s One Shining Moment video will be a welcomed sight.

Fans put together ‘One Shining Moment’ montages with no 2020 NCAA tournament

The ball wasn’t tipped, but here we are.

There’s no NCAA tournament in 2020, and that — among many things — sucks.

That also means we don’t get a new edition of One Shining Moment, the always-thrilling montage of the highlights from the tourney that, as the kids say these days, slaps.

Luckily, there are college basketball fans out there with some good video editing skills, who have taken One Shining Moment and put it under highlights of their favorite teams, or used the cancellations to make a joke or two, because maybe we need a chuckle during such a dark, scary time.

Here’s what some people came up with:

Notre Dame: Mike Brey Issues Statement on Cancellations

Mike Brey has been silent on the issue most of Thursday but issued the following statement Thursday night.

Unless you’re living under a rock you’re aware by now that the ACC canceled their men’s basketball tournament Thursday while the NCAA announced the cancellation of their men’s and women’s basketball tournaments as well.

After beating Boston College handily Wednesday Notre Dame was set to play Virginia Thursday night for a spot in the conference semi-finals. Instead, that and no other college basketball game will be played this season.

Mike Brey has been silent on the issue most of Thursday but issued the following statement Thursday night.

The news of it remains fresh and just weird. Obviously there are greater concerns locally, nationally and worldwide than some basketball tournament but the uniqueness of everything regarding Coronavirus is like nothing I’ve ever seen.
