4-star cornerback Courtland Guillory signs with the Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners added a talented four-star cornerback in Courtland Guillory who signed with the Sooners during the early signing period

The Oklahoma Sooners have taken steps to become a good to great defense in each of Brent Venables’ three seasons at the University of Oklahoma. Hoping to make an impact on the Sooners starting in 2025 is four-star cornerback [autotag]Courtland Guillory[/autotag], who signed with the Sooners during the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag].

Guillory is considered one a top 50 cornerbacks in the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag] and a top 60 prospect out of the state of Texas.

He held 13 offers from Power Four programs. The talented corner chose the Sooners over Texas, Texas A&M and UCF when he committed back in April.

He excels using his long frame to disrupt plays and clog throwing windows. He is 6-feet tall and uses every inch to his advantage. He’s a physical player for the position, and he looks to put a significant hit on the ball carrier. Guillory does a great job tracking the football in the air and times his attack well. – Bryant Crews, Sooners Wire

4-star cornerback Maliek Hawkins signs with Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma Sooners add four-star cornerback prospect during the early signing period.

The Oklahoma Sooners earned a signature from another high-upside cornerback in the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag] as [autotag]Maliek Hawkins[/autotag] signed with OU during the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag].

Maliek is the younger brother of quarterback [autotag]Michael Hawkins[/autotag] and son of former defensive back Mike Hawkins, who played for Brent Venables in the early 2000s.

He’s got great size for the position at 6-foot-1 and displays great change of direction ability, necessary when covering wide receivers in the open field. But he isn’t simply an athlete, Maliek Hawkins is aggressive at the point of attack, bringing a physicality on the outside. – Bryant Crews, Sooners Wire

He also had offers from Texas, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Indiana, and Texas State. Maliek’s offer list may be small, but it’s not reflective of the type of player he is and the potential he has.

He’s a physical corner with the footwork to mirror wide receivers and the quickness and agility to stay with them in and out of their breaks. The Sooners landed one of the more underrated prospects in the 2025 recruiting class with the signing of Maliek Hawkins.

In-state blue-chip wide receiver signs with the Oklahoma Sooners

Elijah Thomas, out of Checotah, Oklahoma, signed with the Oklahoma Sooners during the early signing period.

The Oklahoma Sooners earned the signature of arguably the top prospect in the state of Oklahoma for the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag], [autotag]Elijah Thomas[/autotag]. Thomas is rated as the top prospect in the state of Oklahoma by On3 and 247Sports and is considered the No. 4 wide receiver in the country by 247Sports.

Thomas is a big play waiting to happen every time he touches the ball, showing the ability to win at every level of the passing game. He’s got great agility and speed, giving him the ability to create yards after the catch.

In the second round of the Oklahoma state playoffs, Thomas recorded eight receptions for 270 yards and four touchdowns.

4-Star offensive tackle signs with the Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners earn a signature from four-star offensive tackle during the early signing period.

The Oklahoma Sooners earned a signature from one of the fastest-rising players in the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag] in offensive tackle [autotag]Ryan Fodje[/autotag], who signed with the OU during the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag].

In the summer prior to his junior year, Fodje camped with the Sooners and in August of 2023, earned an offer from Bill Bedenbaugh and Oklahoma. The offer represented his first collegiate offer, but it didn’t take long for the rest of the Power Four to notice the standout offensive tackle from Bridgeland, Texas.

Over the next five months, offers rolled in from Nebraska, Tennessee, Baylor, TCU, Texas A&M, Arkansas, USC, Missouri, Kansas, Cal, SMU, Oregon, Oklahoma State, and most notably, the Texas Longhorns. Fodje attended junior day in Austin, but it didn’t move the needle enough to dissuade him from committing to the school and the offensive line coach who offered him first.

Fodje has the ability to play offensive tackle in the SEC, showing off fantastic athleticism and physicality at the point of attack. He’s got the size and length needed to be an impact player for the Oklahoma Sooners. He has every bit of the ceiling that the highly-touted five-star offensive tackles in the 2025 cycle have. Now, he’ll begin working on continuing his upward trajectory at the University of Oklahoma.

Oklahoma Sooners add highly-touted safety during early signing period

Oklahoma Sooners add four-star safety prospect out of Arkansas during the early signing period.

The Oklahoma Sooners added one of the fastest-rising safeties in the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag] as four-star safety [autotag]Omarion Robinson[/autotag] signed with OU during the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag].

Robinson was defensive back MVP at a Rivals 5-star camp. The Little Rock native has seen his stock rise considerably over the last year, moving to No. 41 overall per Rivals, who has him ranked as the No. 3 safety in 2025.

Robinson is a dynamic player on the back end of a defense. He’s 6 feet and 171 pounds, and he has the footwork to play a number of roles in the secondary. He’s competitive and unafraid to be physical. He can also play in man-to-man coverage, a trait many safeties struggle with early on. – Bryant Crews, Sooners Wire

Robinson joins a group of safeties that is very talented. Led by [autotag]Robert Spears-Jennings[/autotag], the group includes blue-chip prospects from the last two recruiting classes in [autotag]Peyton Bowen[/autotag], [autotag]Reggie Powers[/autotag], [autotag]Jaydan Hardy[/autotag], and Michael Boganowski.

It may be difficult for Robinson to find a role on the defense in 2025, but like the freshman trio of Powers, Hardy, and Boganowski did this year, Robinson could earn a special teams role at a minimum.

4-Star wide receiver Emmanuel Choice signs with the Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma Sooners earn signature from 2025 four-star wide receiver prospect Emmanuel Choice.

The Oklahoma Sooners need a better year out of their wide receiver group in 2025. After losing their top five wide receivers for most of the year, Oklahoma will need some young guys to step up for new offensive coordinator [autotag]Ben Arbuckle[/autotag]. One player who has a chance to make an immediate impact is [autotag]Emmanuel Choice[/autotag], a four-star wide receiver in the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag].

Choice signed with the Sooners during the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag], giving the Sooners another big-time weapon in the passing game.

Choice stands at 6-foot-5, weighs 195 pounds, and is another big wide receiver in the mold of [autotag]Jayden Gibson[/autotag], [autotag]Nic Anderson[/autotag], and [autotag]Ivan Carreon[/autotag].

Choice picked Oklahoma over offers from Nebraska, TCU, Texas A&M, and USC. He also held offers from Missouri, Texas, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.

Here’s what I had to say about Choice after he committed to the Oklahoma Sooners back in June.

Choice is a playmaker in every sense of the word for Lancaster High in Texas. He does a great job of using his 6-foot-5 frame and wingspan to go above the rim to beat cornerbacks in 50-50 situations. He’s a fluid route runner who has the ability to create yards after the catch due to his size and physicality.

4-Star defensive tackle Trent Wilson signs with the Oklahoma Sooners

2025 four-star defensive lineman Trent Wilson signs with the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Oklahoma Sooners add to a promising young defensive line group in the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag] as four-star prospect [autotag]Trent Wilson[/autotag] signed with the Sooners during the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag].

Wilson is a consensus top 200 prospect in the 2025 cycle, coming in as high as the No. 97 overall player according to Rivals. Rivals also have Wilson as the No. 5 defensive lineman in the class, while On3 has him ranked No. 11 at his position.

He committed to the Oklahoma Sooners over offers from Penn State and Ohio State. In total, Wilson held 23 Power Four offers which included notable programs like Alabama, Oregon, and Texas.

Wilson stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 270 pounds. He’s explosive, quick, and incredibly athletic. He’s sure to be an interior defensive lineman who will give Zac Alley and this defensive staff some more juice for the middle of the Sooners defensive front. Bryant Crews, Sooners Wire

Oklahoma Sooners projected to flip Oklahoma State 2025 quarterback commit

The Oklahoma Sooners have been projected to flip 2025 quarterback and Oklahoma State commit.

The [autotag]early signing period[/autotag] for the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag] is set to open on Wednesday. Now that the Oklahoma Sooners have their offensive coordinator in [autotag]Ben Arbuckle[/autotag], some new targets are emerging.

The Oklahoma Sooners issued an offer to three-star quarterback and Oklahoma State commit Jett Niu. Out of Lehi, Utah, Niu is a three-star prospect and is considered the No. 58 quarterback in the country, according to 247Sports.

When you flip on the highlights, Niu is an accurate and decisive passer. He has enough arm to push the ball down the field but is at his best when attacking the intermediate middle of the field. Niu is a good athlete who creates on the run.

Niu has a relationship with new offensive coordinator [autotag]Ben Arbuckle[/autotag]. Arbuckle offered Niu back in January but he initially committed to Appalachian State before flipping to Oklahoma State. Now it sounds like the Oklahoma Sooners could flip him from the Cowboys after 247Sports recruiting analyst Blair Angulo flipped his prediction from Oklahoma State to Oklahoma on the eve of the early signing period.

Where do Oklahoma Sooners rank in USA TODAY Sports’ 1-134 rankings?

Where does OU rank in USA TODAY Sports latest 1-134 rankings after falling to 6-6?

The Oklahoma Sooners finished the 2024 regular season at 6-6, after losing against LSU on Saturday night. It was a bitter end to a very difficult campaign.

As OU awaits their bowl destination, some teams will still be playing on conference championship game weekend. USA TODAY Sports staff writer Paul Myerberg took on the challenge of ranking all 134 FBS teams after Rivalry Week, and he has the Sooners as the No. 48 team in the country.

As a team that is a regular in the Top 25, typically the top 10, this is a far fall for the Sooners under [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag]. In fact, No. 48 might be a generous ranking from Myerberg, as Oklahoma is a .500 team in their first year in the [autotag]SEC[/autotag].

The Sooners fall between 7-5 Pittsburgh (No. 47) and 6-6 Nebraska (No. 49) on the 1-134 list. Their ranking is good for 13th in the SEC behind Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Alabama, Ole Miss, Missouri, Texas A&M, LSU, Florida, Vanderbilt and Arkansas. In fact, only Auburn, Kentucky, and Mississippi State ranked behind the Sooners on Myerberg’s list from the SEC.

With a new offensive coordinator in tow and plenty of roster decisions to make, the road to the 2025 season has already begun in Norman.

Where do Oklahoma Sooners land in USA TODAY Sports’ latest bowl projections?

The Oklahoma Sooners face an old foe in USA TODAY Sports latest bowl projections.

The 2024 regular season for the Oklahoma Sooners has come to a close. After a 37-17 loss against LSU in the finale, OU awaits its bowl destination.

After a shocking win over Alabama two weeks ago, [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag] and his team will be playing in a bowl game for the 26th straight season. A 6-6 record isn’t acceptable in Norman, but the reality is it could have been far worse this year.

USA TODAY Sports staff writer Erick Smith released his latest bowl projections after Week 14 of the college football season. With just days until bowl bids are announced, there remains much to be decided.

Smith has the Sooners facing an old conference foe in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, which will be played on Dec. 27 in Memphis, Tennessee. Their projected opponent is the Kansas State Wildcats out of the Big 12. ESPN’s Mark Schlabach also has the Sooners in the Liberty Bowl.

Of course, the Sooners and the Wildcats have a rich history. They played in the same conference for decades. Oklahoma holds a 77-22-4 advantage in the series, but Kansas State has won three of the last four meetings.

Bob Stoops and Brent Venables both cut their teeth as assistant coaches under legendary Kansas State coach Bill Snyder in the 1990s before both eventually landed in Norman.

A Liberty Bowl berth isn’t what anyone was hoping for when this season started. However, it would be nice to see the Wildcats again and possibly get some revenge for losses in 2019, 2020 and 2022.
