Oklahoma Sooners flip quarterback prospect away from Oklahoma State

Oklahoma Sooners flipped 2025 quarterback prospect Jett Niu from Oklahoma State on the first day of the early signing period.

Just a few days on the job, and offensive coordinator [autotag]Ben Arbuckle[/autotag] is making his presence felt. On the first day of the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag], the Oklahoma Sooners added quarterback [autotag]Jett Niu[/autotag], who signed with the Sooners Wednesday.

Niu was originally committed to Appalachian State before flipping to Oklahoma State in September. Niu received an offer from Arbuckle and Washington State back in January, and now the Sooners have added the high-upside quarterback to their [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag].

Niu has good size for the position at 6-foot-2 and is an accurate passer. He throws with anticipation and does a great job targeting the middle of the field. He’s got a quick release. Niu is a good athlete who displays the ability to extend plays and pick up yards in the scramble game.

Offensive lineman Darius Afalava signs with the Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma Sooners add 2025 interior offensive lineman Darius Afalava during the early signing period.

The Oklahoma Sooners hope to improve their offensive line play in 2025 after injuries and inconsistency hindered the group in their first season in the SEC. Joining the ranks during the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag] is three-star interior offensive lineman [autotag]Darius Afalava[/autotag] out of Lehi, Utah.

ESPN and Rivals consider Afalava a top 25 interior offensive line prospect in the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag]

Afalava had 23 Power Four offers and chose the Sooners over Utah, Washington, and Michigan State, who were in his final four.

He’s got great size and moves well in space, allowing the Utah product to be effective as a puller in the running game.

Afalava is a true guard in every sense. He could slide out to right tackle in a pinch, but with his strength, hand placement, and base, he seems like a seamless fit as a guard who can handle the size in the SEC and make a difference in the trenches. – Bryant Crews, Sooners Wire

Afalava joins an interior offensive line group that includes returning starters Heath Ozaeta and Febechi Nwaiwu and [autotag]2024 recruiting class[/autotag] standouts Eddy Pierre-Louis and Eugene Brooks.

Oklahoma Sooners add 3-star linebacker in early signing period

The Oklahoma Sooners add another in-state star as three-star linebacker Marcus James signs with OU in the early signing period.

The Oklahoma Sooners added a big-time in-state athlete on the first day of the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag] when three-star prospect [autotag]Marcus James[/autotag] signed with OU.

James starred on both sides of the ball for Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, but will ply his athleticism and speed on the defensive side of the ball at linebacker. He’ll have a chance to work both as a weakside linebacker and at the cheetah position as the Sooners work to get his speed and length on the field for Zac Alley’s defense.

Though a three-star player, Rivals has him as the No. 38 prospect in the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag].

Marcus James chose Oklahoma over Texas A&M, Utah, Arkansas, and TCU when he committed back in November of 2023.

3-Star offensive lineman Owen Hollenbeck signs with the Oklahoma Sooners

Three-star offensive lineman Owen Hollenbeck signs with the Oklahoma Sooners during the early signing period.

The Oklahoma Sooners have added to their offensive line ranks on the first day of the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag], earning a signature from three-star interior offensive line prospect [autotag]Owen Hollenbeck[/autotag].

Hollenbeck is out of Melissa, Texas, and has the size and demeanor to be an impact player for the Oklahoma Sooners offensive line. He projects as a center and will use what he’s learned on the wrestling mat to control players on the interior.

He’s a player that isn’t looking to simply block players, Hollenbeck plays with violence, working to put his assignment on the ground in the run and pass game.

Hollenbeck chose the Sooners over offers from Arkansas, Florida, SMU, and Texas A&M.

4-Star, In-state tight end prospect signs with the Oklahoma Sooners

Four-star prospect Trynae Washington out of Midwest City, Oklahoma signs with the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Oklahoma Sooners have their tight end in the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag] after [autotag]Trynae Washington[/autotag] signed with the Sooners on the first day of the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag].

Washington is 6-foot-3 and weighs 205 pounds. He has the athleticism to be a difference-maker at the position in the passing game. He’ll need to add some more size to be able to block for the Sooners, but he can push for playing time as a slot tight end early in his Oklahoma career.

He joins former Carl Albert teammates [autotag]Marcus James[/autotag], [autotag]Trystan Haynes[/autotag], and [autotag]Xavier Robinson[/autotag], furthering the Sooners pipeline into the powerhouse program from Midwest City.

4-star in-state cornerback prospect signs with the Oklahoma Sooners

4-star cornerback prospect Trystan Haynes signs with the Oklahoma Sooners during the early signing period.

The Oklahoma Sooners officially continue their Carl Albert connection by adding [autotag]Trystan Haynes[/autotag], who signed with the Sooners during the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag]. He joins former Carl Albert teammate Xavier Robinson at OU.

Haynes is a two-way player, but will play cornerback for the Sooners. He’s considered a top-200 prospect and ranks as the No. 18 cornerback in the nation according to the 247Sports composite.

Here’s what I had to say about Haynes at the time of his commitment.

Trystan Haynes pairs great height and length with fantastic athleticism. He’s agile and smooth with his drop into coverage. Playing both ways for Carl Albert, Haynes is simply a playmaker. He did it all for the Titans as a wide receiver, cornerback and returner. Playing in all three phases helps him as a cornerback. He shows a strong ability to diagnose what’s happening in front of him to make a play on the football in the air. Once he has the ball in his hands, he’s tough to bring down.

After a strong season for the Oklahoma Sooners safety group, Brandon Hall added more talent to his ranks during the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag] with the addition of safety [autotag]Marcus Wimberly[/autotag].

Out of Bauxite, Arkansas, Wimberly ranks as the No. 37 safety in the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag], according to the 247Sports composite.

In addition to the offer from Oklahoma, Wimberly held notable offers from Arkansas, Ole Miss, Michigan, Oregon, SMU, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Utah.

Wimberly is a great athlete who played in all three phases for Bauxite, starring in a wildcat quarterback role. He showed off big-play potential with plus agility and speed. That athleticism will allow him the opportunity to be impactful in coverage responsibilities.

The Sooners plan to use him full-time on the defensive side of the ball and Wimberly will have a chance to make an impact at safety and cheetah in Zac Alley’s defense.

Oklahoma Sooners add blue-chip defensive end during early signing period

Oklahoma Sooners add four-star defensive end during the early signing period.

The Oklahoma Sooners took another big step during the 2024 season and hope to build on their improvement in 2025. Joining the ranks at defensive end is four-star prospect [autotag]C.J. Nickson[/autotag], who signed with the Oklahoma Sooners during the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag].

The No. 96 player in the 2025 recruiting class per ESPN, Nickson is a two-sport star, who will also play for Porter Moser and the Oklahoma men’s basketball team.

Nickson chose the Sooners over Oklahoma State when he committed back in June. He also holds offers from Auburn, Baylor, Kansas, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, TCU, Tennessee, Texas Tech, and Wisconsin.

Out of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Nickson is an excellent athlete who has great size to play on the edge at 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds. His length and athleticism will be the attributes that could allow Nickson to push for early playing time with the Sooners.

However, given that he’s playing basketball for Weatherford during his senior season, he won’t join the team until summer workouts.

4-star running back Tory Blaylock signs with the Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners earned a signature from talented four-star running back Tory Blaylock.

The Oklahoma Sooners have added a playmaking running back in the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag]. [autotag]Tory Blaylock[/autotag] is a four-star running back out of Humble, Texas, who will join OU in 2025 after signing with the Sooners during the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag].

Blaylock is an electric player, showing a great blend of speed, agility, physicality, and balance. In addition to his running back prowess, he was a part of Atascocita’s record-breaking 4×100 relay team as a junior in the spring of 2024. In the 100-meter dash, Blaylock posted a wind-legal of 10.62 seconds.

Though speed may be his calling card, Blaylock has the ability to be a do-it-all runner for the Oklahoma Sooners. Tory’s father, Derrick, played five seasons in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets.

Tory committed to the Sooners over the Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas Longhorns, Oregon Ducks, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Tennessee Volunteers, who were in his top six back in March.

4-star cornerback Courtland Guillory signs with the Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners added a talented four-star cornerback in Courtland Guillory who signed with the Sooners during the early signing period

The Oklahoma Sooners have taken steps to become a good to great defense in each of Brent Venables’ three seasons at the University of Oklahoma. Hoping to make an impact on the Sooners starting in 2025 is four-star cornerback [autotag]Courtland Guillory[/autotag], who signed with the Sooners during the [autotag]early signing period[/autotag].

Guillory is considered one a top 50 cornerbacks in the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag] and a top 60 prospect out of the state of Texas.

He held 13 offers from Power Four programs. The talented corner chose the Sooners over Texas, Texas A&M and UCF when he committed back in April.

He excels using his long frame to disrupt plays and clog throwing windows. He is 6-feet tall and uses every inch to his advantage. He’s a physical player for the position, and he looks to put a significant hit on the ball carrier. Guillory does a great job tracking the football in the air and times his attack well. – Bryant Crews, Sooners Wire
