Cotton Bowl: Florida vs. Oklahoma odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Florida Gators vs. Oklahoma Sooners sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Oklahoma Sooners (8-2) and Florida Gators (8-3) meet in Wednesday night’s Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic in Arlington, Texas. Kickoff will be at 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Florida-Oklahoma college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Oklahoma is No. 7 in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports. Florida is ranked 10th.

Florida vs. Oklahoma: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:30 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Florida +180 (bet $100 to win $180) | Oklahoma -225 (bet $225 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Florida +3.5 (+110) | Oklahoma -3.5 (-135)
  • Over/Under: 67.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Florida vs. Oklahoma: Three things to know

  1. The Sooners offense typically draws more attention in a Lincoln Riley era that has seen OU post big scoring numbers. It’s Oklahoma’s defense that has been most impressive in 2020. The Sooners rank sixth in the nation in sacks (3.8 per game) and third in rushing defense (91.6 yards per game). From last season to this, OU has gone from allowing 27.3 points per game (64th) to yielding just 21.9 PPG (30th).
  2. Florida QB Kyle Trask has completed 69.7% of his passes in 2020. Trask has tossed 43 touchdown passes against just 5 interceptions. Over his last three games, the UF signal-caller has piled up 1,315 passing yards. Trask’s favorite TD target — TE Kyle Pitts — won’t be available for this game, though. College football’s premier tight end announced he was opting out of the Cotton Bowl to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft.
  3. The Sooners are 6-1 against the spread over their last seven games. That stretch includes four double-digit covers and seven games that saw OU out-rush its opponents.

Florida vs. Oklahoma: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Oklahoma 38, Florida 31

Money line (ML)

PASS. Better value is available in taking the Sooners on the spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Gators scored an average of 40.5 PPG against the best four defenses they faced in SEC play (Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, Kentucky). There was only a little bit of garbage-time effect over that quartet of games (two wins and two losses), and not much turnover benefit. Florida has a top-notch offense but Oklahoma isn’t too far behind, and the Sooners may be performing at peak-level over recent games. OU may be more ready to perform at near its best in putting a bow on the season.

Pitts not being on hand is significant. So is the frame of mind for the players on both sides who do take the field. A Florida team that had been fighting for a College Football Playoff slot up until a couple of weeks ago may be closer to ‘E’ on the fuel gauge. It was already sapped plenty enough by a season of COVID-19 protocols.

Analytics favor Oklahoma in the trenches and a SOONERS -3.5 (-135) LINE IS SOLID: BACK OKLAHOMA.

Over/Under (O/U)

There’s no value on either side of the 67.5-point line. PASS.

The Sooners are ranked No. 10 and the Cyclones No. 8 in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Oklahoma vs. Iowa State: Betting odds, spread and lines

  • Over/Under: 58.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Oklahoma vs. Iowa State: Three things to know

  1. Since losing to Iowa State 37-30 Oct. 3, Oklahoma has notched six straight wins (5-1 ATS), including an easy 27-14 win last week as a 23-point home favorite vs. Baylor.
  2. The Cyclones have a 5-game win streak heading into this title, along with three straight covers. Iowa State (-6) smacked around West Virginia 42-6 last week.

Oklahoma vs. Iowa State: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Iowa State 27, Oklahoma 24

Money line (ML)

Oklahoma is such a popular team and has a head coach in Lincoln Riley so acclaimed that he can pretty much decide his own salary, that the value is inherently on the dog. The Sooners enter with a four-game win streak in the Big 12 title game.

Iowa State’s Campbell is no slouch either as his name has been rumored for open NFL gigs. When you start combing the web for nuggets on these teams, you realize that they are pretty even.

According to Football Outsiders, Oklahoma is 11th in offensive FEI ratings and Iowa State is 12th. Surprisingly, the Cyclones have the higher rated defense—16th in defensive FEI vs. the Sooners’ 22nd ranking.

The reason Oklahoma is laying such a big number on a neutral field is because of its popularity, not its production. Iowa State junior QB Brock Purdy is more seasoned and consistent than Oklahoma redshirt freshman QB Spencer Rattler, who has thrown one more pick and has a higher sack rate.

We are going to “LEAN” IOWA STATE (+180) for a half-unit and hit the spread harder.

Against the spread (ATS)

The case for betting IOWA STATE +6 (-110) was essentially made in the section above.

We are bucking the neutral site trends (Oklahoma is 5-1 ATS in their last six Big 12 title games and Iowa State is 0-5 ATS at neutral sites) and following the head-to-head trend of the Cyclones covering five straight vs. the Sooners.

Bottom line: TAKE IOWA STATE +6 (-110) for 2 units.

Over/Under (O/U)

Call it a hunch, but I think these defenses are going to play better than the offenses. The total has been moved from a 60.5-point opener down to the current price despite 85% of the action being on the Over (according to Pregame.com).

First, that line movement is puzzling and, second, we are getting some value with the Under because the Over has cashed in four straight Oklahoma-Iowa State games. I wouldn’t bet it hard, but I definitely “LEAN” UNDER 58.5 (-115).

Baylor at Oklahoma: Three things to know

  1. Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler has been fantastic over the last four games, throwing for 9 touchdowns and only 1 interception. On the season, Rattler has thrown for 22 touchdowns with 6 interceptions.
  2. Baylor has really struggled against Oklahoma of late, losing six-straight games. The Bears have lost 10 of their last 11 games when playing the Sooners on the road.
  3. Oklahoma has been a great home team under head coach Lincoln Riley as it has won 19 of its last 20 games at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Baylor at Oklahoma: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Oklahoma 42, Baylor 20

Money line (ML)

Oklahoma is a huge money line favorite. The Sooners have won five straight games and their record at home under Riley has been phenomenal. Unfortunately, there just isn’t enough value. PASS on this money line in favor of the point spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

OKLAHOMA -21.5 (-110) is the right play in this Big 12 matchup as its offense has caught fire of late. The Sooners scored a combined 251 points in their last five games and are averaging 45.5 points on the season.

They should score into the 40s in this game and if they can hold Baylor to only a few scores, the Sooners should have no problem covering this spread. Oklahoma is 6-2 against the spread this season, covering in five straight games.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 60.5 (-110) is the correct play in this game given how explosive Oklahoma’s offense has been this season. Baylor has had its fair share of struggles on that side of the ball, but the Bears have scored at least 23 points in four straight games.

If they can come close to that number, the Over should hit with ease.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Oklahoma State +7 (-110) | Oklahoma -7 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 58.5 (O: -115 | U: -106)

Oklahoma State at Oklahoma: Three things to know

  1. Oklahoma State’s injury report includes its two leading rushers—RBs Chuba Hubbard, who led the nation in rushing yards last season, and L.D. Brown—and their leader in interceptions S Kolby Harvell-Peel.
  2. Following a slow start, Oklahoma’s run game has really hit its stride over recent weeks. The Sooners gained 200-plus yards on the ground in back-to-back weeks and had six rushing touchdowns in each of their previous two games against Texas Tech and Kansas.
  3. Oklahoma State has lost five consecutive games to Oklahoma, including a 34-16 loss last season in Stillwater, and is just 2-13 against the Sooners under head coach Mike Gundy.

Oklahoma State at Oklahoma: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Oklahoma 33, Oklahoma State 24

Money line (ML)

Oklahoma (-250) is the right side but the only way this money line should be played (in my opinion) is in a parlay. That’s more of a personal preference; however, the Sooners’ implied win probability is 71.4% and they definitely beat Oklahoma State more than 70% of the time in this spot.

PASS for a cheaper price on the spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

The two factors I’m seeing that make me like OKLAHOMA -7 (-110) over Oklahoma State are the injury report and the Sooners’ edge in the battle of the trenches.

The Cowboys’ defense is considered one of the best in the nation but Oklahoma’s defensive line has been better and could exploit weaknesses in the Cowboys’ offensive line.

Oklahoma State averages just 3.9 yards per carry, the offensive line ranks 104th in line yards per carry and 111th in sack rate. The Cowboys are going against an Oklahoma rush defense allowing 3.5 yards per carry, a defensive line that is 12th in opponent’s line yards per carrying and ninth in stuff rate.

Second, if the Cowboys aren’t gaining yards on the ground they could be forced into obvious passing situations and Oklahoma has the nation’s second-highest sack rate on passing downs. Oklahoma State’s offensive line is ranked 117th in passing down sack rate.

GIMME OKLAHOMA -7 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LIKE” UNDER 58.5 (-106) for 1.5 units. Oklahoma State could be without a couple of key contributors on offense and should have trouble sustaining drives. The Cowboys are 71st in 3rd down conversion percentage and the Sooners are 19th in opponent’s 3rd down conversion percentage.

Oklahoma’s defense is trending up and both teams have struggled with turnovers at times this season. Oklahoma State is minus-four in the turnover differential this year and Oklahoma is minus-one.

Also, the Sooners’ rushing attack just started to come along but could definitely regress back to their earlier season production going against this top-10 Oklahoma State defense.

Kansas at Oklahoma odds, picks and prediction

The Kansas Jayhawks (0-6 overall, 0-5 SEC) visit the Oklahoma Sooners (4-2, 3-2) for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff Saturday at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Below, we analyze the Kansas-Oklahoma college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Sooners are No. 19 in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Kansas at Oklahoma: Three things to know

  1. Kansas has lost 15 in a row to Oklahoma, has dropped 52 straight Big 12 road games.
  2. Oklahoma has won 17 of its last 18 games at home. It is among the best college football teams while playing at home.
  3. Kansas has one of the worst offenses this season, averaging 16.2 points per game. It is averaging just 3.9 yards per play, which ranks 112th in the nation.

Kansas at Oklahoma: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Oklahoma 45, Kansas 3

Money line (ML)

None listed

Against the spread (ATS)

OKLAHOMA (-38.5) is a monster favorite and it’s not hard to see why. The Jayhawks have one of the worst offenses in college football and their defense is somehow worse. They are allowing 46.2 points per game and it wouldn’t be all that surprising if Oklahoma hung 50 on the scoreboard. Don’t expect Jayhawks to score much in this game and for the Sooners to ultimately cover this spread.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total is set at an absurd 63.5 points, which feels incredibly high given how much Kansas’ offense has struggled this season. While Oklahoma could certainly come close to this total by itself, it feels unlikely that Kansas will offer much help. Take the UNDER here as Kansas could be held to single-digits on offense.
