Oilers at Canucks: Projected starting goalies

Mikko Koskinen vs. Thatcher Demko

Koskinen has a 9-2-2 record for Edmonton with a 2.56 goals against average and .920 save percentage. Koskinen has bounced back from an uneven debut season. He stopped 46 of 50 shots in a 4-3 loss to Colorado on Wednesday night and Mike Smith started Saturday night.

Demko has a 5-4-1 record. He has a 2.92 goals against average and .907 save percentage on the season. The Vancouver goalie followed up a very good performance in Philadelphia with a less than desirable one in Pittsburgh. He allowed seven goals on 39 shots in the loss.

Prediction

Canucks 4, Oilers 3

Moneyline (ML)

We’re backing the CANUCKS (-121). They’re on the “home” end of the home-and-home here after surprising the Oilers Saturday, winning 5-2 behind Tanner Pearson’s four-point effort (two goals, two assists). Edmonton did not have an answer to the Pearson line. Oilers C Connor McDavid recorded his two points (goal and an assist), but the rest of the team was contained.

A $10 bet with Vancouver results in an $8.26 profit with an outright win for the Canucks.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Canucks (-1.5, +190) against the spread compared to the Oilers (+1.5, -233) is too tough to call when familiarity breeds contempt. Playing the back end the night after usually results in one-goal games more often (also Vancouver has a 5-2-3 record with close games). AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-154) is worth a small play. Saturday’s game hit the Over on a higher number at 6.5. Sunday presents a more conservative projection, but less of a potential profit. It may be a worthwhile trade-off as a goal drop makes a big difference. Plus, these are two teams that can light the lamp around three goals a night (3.1 and 3.3, respectively).

Placing a $10 bet here will profit $6.49 if there are six or more goals.
