Ohio State at Indiana odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Ohio State at Indiana odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Indiana Hoosiers open the regular season at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Ohio State at Indiana odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Buckeyes head west on Interstate 70 to The Rock to open their season, and QB Kyle McCord has won the starting job for coach Ryan Day. However, expect to see QB Devin Brown also factor in at some point.

These teams faced each other in the 2017 season opener on a Thursday night, with the Buckeyes coming away with a 49-21 victory. In fact, Ohio State has won 27 straight meetings in this series dating back to 1991, with just 1 of the previous 7 meetings decided by less than 21 points.

The Hoosiers had a solid run in 2020, the only time Indiana kept it within 7 points against Ohio State. However, coach Tom Allen has struggled in the past 2 years to maintain consistency. He turns to Tennessee transfer QB Tayven Jackson to run the offense, but there will likely be a lot of growing pains along the way.

Ohio State is No. 4 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Ohio State at Indiana picks and predictions

Prediction

Ohio State 45, Indiana 13

Moneyline

Ohio State (-10000) will cost you $100 for every $1 won, when it picks up the road victory. There is never a reason to risk anywhere close to that kind of money, especially for such a minuscule return. It shouldn’t have to be said, but PASS.

Against the spread

OHIO STATE -30.5 (-110) will drive you nuts at first. The Buckeyes will be breaking in a new QB in McCord, and there could be some bumps along the way as he gets his feet wet. However, the Buckeyes still have a very good run game, and WR Marvin Harrison Jr. is one of the best in the nation. This offense will hit its stride and start to pull away by the 3rd quarter, so be patient.

Over/Under

UNDER 59.5 (-115) is the lean, but play a half-unit at best.

I like the Buckeyes to get on the board early and often in the 1st half. Ohio State should have a rather sizable lead into the 2nd half before calling off the dogs. Will the Hoosiers be able to contribute anything to the total? I don’t think Indiana will be able to cobble together a lot of offense, and that’s why the lean is to go low.

First look: Ohio State at Indiana odds and lines

Looking at Saturday’s Ohio State at Indiana college football odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Indiana Hoosiers open the regular season on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Ind. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we look at Ohio State at Indiana odds from BetMGM Sportsbook. Also see: SportsbookWire’s college football picks and predictions.

The Buckeyes lost QB C.J. Stroud and WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, among others, to the NFL. But in Columbus, they tend to reload and move on. QB Kyle McCord is expected to take the reins of the offense, with perhaps WR Devin Brown factoring in, too. Either signal caller will have one of the top targets in the country in WR Marvin Harrison Jr.

Defensively, the Buckeyes need improvement after a so-so season. LBs Steele Chambers and Tommy Eichenberg are the next great Ohio State linebackers, but there are some questions in the secondary. The D-line should be improved, though.

For Indiana, it has won just 6 total games across the past 2 seasons, and only 2 games inside the conference. The Hoosiers have 7 total starters back from a season ago, so IU went to the transfer portal rather feverishly. Facing a national title contender in the opener while trying to get a slew of new starters in place is a tall order.

These 2 Big Ten combatants last opened the season on Aug. 31, 2017, in Bloomington, with the Buckeyes rolling to a 49-21 victory as 20-point favorites while nearly cashing the Over (55) on their own.

Ohio State leads the all-time series 78-12-5, while also vacating a win in 2010. The Buckeyes have won 27 meetings in a row dating back to 1991, including last season’s 56-14 romp at “The Shoe.” Ohio State won the last trip to “The Rock” by a 54-7 count on Oct. 23, 2021.

Ohio State at Indiana odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Ohio State Buckeyes at Indiana Hoosiers odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes (5-1, 3-0 Big Ten) travel to meet the Indiana Hoosiers (2-4, 0-3) Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Ohio State vs. Indiana odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Buckeyes have righted the ship after an early-season loss to Oregon. The defense has been better, allowing just 37 total points across the past three outings, and Ohio State has rolled up 54.5 points per game (PPG) across the past four contests.

The Hoosiers haven’t been anywhere near as effective as they were during last season’s COVID-shortened campaign. Indiana put up a good fight at “The Rock” last week, falling 20-15 to Michigan State, but it was unable to cover for a fourth straight outing.

Ohio State at Indiana odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Ohio State 52, Indiana 17

Money line

Ohio State (-1200) had two weeks to prepare for this game after dusting Maryland 66-17 last time out on Oct. 9 at the ‘Shoe. This won’t end well for Indiana (+700), but you can’t lay 12 times your potential return. There’s just no value here.

AVOID.

Against the spread

OHIO STATE -20.5 (-120) is well rested and looking to put away Indiana +20.5 (-105) early with its rejuvenated offense. The Buckeyes have been scoring without much effort, and now they have had a couple of weeks to rest bumps and bruises to get back to near 100 percent. The only thing that could slow them down is rust, but that’s not really a concern.

Over/Under

OVER 58.5 (-115) is the play in this one and makes for a nice two-way parlay with Ohio State laying the points.

The Over has hit in three of the past four for Ohio State, and the Over has hit in four straight meetings while going 4-1-1 in the past six meetings in Bloomington, mostly due to the Buckeyes and their offense.
