Ohio State men’s basketball get surprise seeding in Joe Lunardi’s bracket release

Ohio State basketball suffered its first loss against Texas A&M, but it is projected to be a single-digit seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Joe Lunardi is starting bracketology early this year and is already making predictions of who will end up in the field of 68.

Despite Ohio State suffering its first loss of the season to Texas A&M this past Friday evening, it is still a single-digit seed and among the highest-projected teams in the Big Ten.

The Buckeyes come in at No. 7 in Lunardi’s updated bracket and, in his model, will face the No. 10 Pittsburgh to open their first-round battle in Cleveland.

They are in the West region, one that has Gonzaga as the top seed and Tennessee No. 2. Oregon at No. 9 and Rutgers at No. 11 are the only two Big Ten teams in Ohio State’s region.

You can view the entire breakdown rundown here.

While getting in or sitting out is a critical part of Selection Sunday, there are a few teams that are especially concerned about their future. Here are those 16 teams that make up the last four byes, last four in, first four out and next four out.

While there’s still most of the season left, things are looking good for Ohio State hoops, and with an elite backcourt and solid three-point shooting, it would have the capability to do some damage should it find its way into the tournament.

Ohio State basketball vs. Evansville: How to watch, stream the game

Back at the Schott #GoBucks

The Ohio State basketball team took one on the chin this past Friday night in College Station, Texas. The Buckeyes couldn’t seem to find a rhythm in a 78-64 loss to Texas A&M.

OSU is back in familiar territory as they head home to take on Evansville on Tuesday evening, Nov. 19. The Aces are just 1-3 on the season. Evansville is led by freshman forward Gabriel Pozzato, who hails from Italy and is averaging 19.3 per contest in the Aces’ four games played.

We know the Ohio State football team is still trying to do some pretty special things this season, but the basketball team is trying to get off the ground with a good start to its 2024-2025 campaign as well.

If you found us here, there’s a good chance you are looking for a way to catch the Buckeyes in action this weekend.

Best Photos from Texas A&M’s 78-64 win over Ohio State

Here are just some of the best photos from Texas A&M’s 78-64 win over Ohio State on Friday night

Texas A&M (3-1) has not played up to its potential against ranked competition during nonconference play under head coach Buzz Williams, but with what looks the best team he’s had during his sixth season with the program, Friday’s 78-64 win over No. 21 Ohio State sent clear message to the rest of the SEC.

Coming into the game, Ohio State’s 3-point shooting success took a step back after facing Texas A&M’s elite peremeter defense, holding the Buckeyes to 26% from byond the arc. However, A&M’s shooting wasn’t much better, but credit to the guard trio of Wade Taylor (15 points), Zhuric Phelps (14 points) and Manny Obaseki (15) for driving the paint and sutaining fouls.

Getting to the line on what felt like every possession, the Aggies shot 80% from the stripe, make 32 of 40 attempts which kept the double digit intanct throughout the second half.

After the game, head coach Buzz Williams noted that he offense is still finding its identity, which is a good sign with games against Oregon, Creighton, and Purdue upcoming.

Here are the best photos from No. 23 Texas A&M’s 78-64 win over No. 21 Ohio State.

Four-star shooting guard commits to Alabama over Ohio State basketball

Davion Hannah was a prospect the Ohio State basketball program had its eye on, and he’s officially headed to Alabama.

Unfortunately, Ohio State basketball swung and missed on four-star shooting guard Davion Hannah.

Hannah, who had numerous D1 offers and was eyeing Cincinnati, Missouri and Alabama as well, went with the latter and will join the Crimson Tide next season.

Hannah is the 7th-best shooting guard in the Class of 2025 per 247Sports and is the 3rd-best player from the state of Missouri. He currently is playing at Link Academy and is from Branson, MO.

Hannah had visited Ohio State on September 20 and had visits to Cincinnati, Missouri, and Alabama this fall as well. He ended with four visits, only to those programs, and 18 offers.

The Buckeyes have two players who have signed the letter of intent to play for Ohio State next season.

One of those is A’Mare Bynum, a 6-foot-8 four-star commit who also plays at Link Academy and is from Branson. Hannah opted to blaze his own path. The other is Dorian Jones from Richmond Heights in Cleveland, the No. 1 player in the state of Ohio in the class.

Ohio State falls to Texas A&M yet defensive remains incredibly impressive

Ohio State basketball came up short against the Texas A&M Aggies Friday evening, but it still had an impressive defensive showing.

The No. 21 Ohio State Buckeyes had their first real road test of the season, traveling down to Texas A&M to battle the No. 23 Aggies. The crowd in Reed Arena was electric for the top-25 matchup.

Ohio State opened the season with an 80-72 victory against then-No. 19 Texas Longhorns and then took down the Youngstown State Penguins, kicking off the season 2-0.

The Buckeyes have been a brick wall defensively, but their on-fire three-point shooting failed them Friday. Ohio State went 20-of-59 from the field and 8-of-30 from deep, being bested by Texas A&M in both areas.

Ohio State fell 78-64.

It did keep up an impressive resume of defensive intensity though which was among the lone highlights from their road loss. The Buckeyes held the Aggies to 19-of-49 shooting and 8-of-21 from deep.

Ohio State *has* to work on not fouling though as it sent the Aggies to the free-throw line 40 times. It is almost a guaranteed loss any time your opponent gets to the line that many times.

The Buckeyes will be expected to drop back out of the top 25 in polls next week. Their next battle will come against Evansville on Tuesday, November 19. This one will thankfully be in Columbus.

The Buckeyes next top-25 matchup is against Rutgers, the current No. 24-ranked team, on December 7.

No. 23 Texas A&M defeats No. 21 Ohio State 78-64 behind an elite defensive effort

Texas A&M is now 3-1 on the season after defeating No. 21 Ohio State on Friday night

Texas A&M (3-1) played some of its best defensive game of the season in Friday’s ranked home matchup vs. Ohio State on Friday night, as the Aggies hosted and defeated the 2-0 Buckeyes 78-64, who recently defeated the Texas Longhorns.

Still establishing their offensive identity, especially with senior guard Zhuric Phelps now in the lineup, head coach Buzz Williams knew that the Aggies would be to play air-tight perimeter defense against one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the county as the Buckeyes entered the game shooting nearly 50% from beyond the arc.

Williams utilized the deepest roster he had ever had at his disposal throughout the night as the Aggies held Ohio State to 34% shooting (20-59) and 26% from three. A&M’s shooting night wasn’t any better, finishing 39% from the field and 38% from three.

However, the Aggies won this game at the free throw line, shooting 80% from the stripe, while the senior guard Manny Obaseki (15 points), Wade Taylor (15 points), and Zhuric Phelps (14 points) made several tough shots to keep the big lead intact in the second half.

Texas A&M’s guard play looks the part, with Taylor, Phelps, and Obaseki showing physicality in the paint and making their open shots. Still, center Pharrel Payne’s play next to Andersson Garcia (5 points) and Henry Coleman (12 points) has taken the Aggies’ defense to the next level, as the junior’s two blocks mirrored former Aggie forward Robert Williams, especially from an athleticism standpoint.

This is with “Buzz Ball” to the fullest extent, as the Aggies have shown to be the better team in rock fight-style defensive battles during his tenure.

At the same time, A&M’s shooting and offensive game plans need to improve, but this was a huge win that won’t be forgotten in early March.

Note: Texas A&M’s 3-point shooting plan will continue to involve former Nebraska guard CJ Wilcher (, who made two of his three outside attempts, displaying a solid stroke and the ability to create space.

Texas A&M will host Southern (0-3) on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 7:00 p.m. CT. The game will be available to stream on SEC Network+ or ESPN+

Ohio State basketball has impressive defensive metrics through two games

Ohio State basketball became ranked this week after back-to-back wins, and it has had success because of lockdown defensive performances.

Aaron Craft would be proud of these Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State has played two games this season, and it is 2-0.

While the Buckeyes seem to be figuring it out on the offensive end and clearly scored enough to come out on top, it has been their defense has spearheaded these victories.

They are the top Power Four program in opponent’s effective field goal percentage. Their foes are shooting an effective 34.6% from the field. That’s what has propelled these victories.

The biggest performance Ohio State has had was its opening-season 80-72 neutral-court victory over the Texas Longhorns, who were ranked No. 19 at the time of the match. Texas shot just 36.8% from the field and were 7-of-28 from deep.

Of note, it allowed just six assists to Youngstown State in its second game of the season as well. The Buckeyes have stuffed opponents, and they’ve had a few big-time showings from key players as well.

Ohio State received a surprise performances from freshman John Mobley Jr. against Texas. He has been a star on both sides of the court and dropped 14 on Texas.

This Buckeyes team is doing it all, and with the No. 23 Texas A&M Aggies on the horizon Friday, let’s hope they continue this stifling defense and see more impressive players from freshman Mobley Jr.

Ohio State basketball vs. Texas A&M: How to watch, stream the game

First true road test #GoBucks

The Ohio State basketball team is off to a 2-0 start and has entered the Top 25 in rankings. The No. 21 ranked Buckeyes will travel to College Station to take on the No. 23 ranked Texas A&M Aggies for the first true road test of the season in a hostile environment. Ohio State beat the Texas Longhorns to open the season on a neutral site in Las Vegas.

The Aggies come into the contest with a 2-1 record after dropping the season opener to Central Florida. OSU has shot extremely well to open the season and if the Bucks can go into College Station and get a win, it might tell us they are a real contender in the Big Ten.

This will be the third time Ohio State and Texas A&M have met on the hardwood with the Aggies winning the two previous meetings. It’s going to be a late one, but should be a fun matchup to watch.

Who shined in Ohio State basketball throttling of Youngstown State?

The Ohio State Buckeyes welcomed Youngstown State for their home opener. They walloped them, and here’s who shined the brightest.

The Ohio State Buckeyes kicked off their season with an 80-72 neutral-court win over the then-No. 19 Texas Longhorns on Monday, November 4.

They then went home to Schottenstein Center in Columbus and battled Youngstown State Monday. Ohio State remained undefeated, beating the Penguins 81-47. It covered the closing 18.5-point spread in the win.

Ohio State was led by Bruce Thornton and some torrid three-point shooting against Texas, and the key contributors changed up a bit in its second battle, although it did sustain its three-point onslaught, shooting over 40% from deep.

This time around, it was center Aaron Bradshaw, who scored 16 points and hauled down eight rebounds. Freshman Juni Mobley Jr. nailed 3-of-4 triples and ended with 16 points as well.

It was a full team effort as four of the Buckeyes’ five players ended in double figures.

Bradshaw finally started to get involved is the key takeaway as he ended with a triple and five made free throws. He also had a team-high two blocks. The Kentucky transfer, a former five-star recruit, struggled to open the season.

This should propel him moving forward, and it’ll be a key storyline to follow as the season progresses. Having a big man capable of putting up double figures consistently will be impactful for Ohio State.

Next up, the Buckeyes will face the No. 23 Texas A&M Aggies on Friday.

Ohio State basketball vs. Youngstown State: How to watch, stream the game

Home opener! #GoBucks

The Ohio State Men’s basketball team gets ready to make its home debut Monday at the Schott against Youngstown State. The Penguins are 1-0 to start the season with an 80-60 win over Chicago State. The Buckeyes kicked their season off with a win over ranked Texas last week in Las Vegas.

In an effort to get fans to the stadium, the OSU athletic department has made this game free to students. Students will get in at no charge with a valid BuckID card, but those students who purchased the Nuthouse Student Package will have priority seating. Hopefully, Value City Arena will be rocking for the home opener.

There are still seats available to the general public as well, but if you can’t make it to the game, here’s how you can still see all the action.
