March Madness: Virginia vs. Ohio odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Virginia Cavaliers vs. Ohio Bobcats odds and lines, with March Madness Round 1 picks and predictions.

The 4-seed Virginia Cavaliers (18-6) face the 13-seed Ohio Bobcats (16-7) at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind., Saturday for a 7:15 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we analyze the Virginia-Ohio odds and lines, with March Madness NCAA Tournament picks and predictions.

Virginia didn’t lose a game in the ACC Tournament but also didn’t win the title. That’s because they had to pull out after its win over Syracuse due to a positive COVID test within the program, so their game against Georgia Tech was uncontested. A lot of people forget, but the Cavaliers are actually the defending national champion after cutting down the nets in Minneapolis in 2019, and March Madness was canceled due to the pandemic last season.

Ohio is hoping to avoid the same fate as Ohio State and Cleveland State, two teams bumped from the NCAA Tournament on Day 1. The Bobcats rolled up three wins and covers in the MAC Tournament, including an 84-69 win over Buffalo. In fact, OU scored at least 84 points in each game in the MAC tourney, while winning by an average margin of 14.7 PPG. They’re one of the hottest teams heading into the NCAA Tournament, going 9-1 SU/ATS across the past 10.

Virginia vs. Ohio: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Virginia 71 Ohio 66

Money line (ML)

Virginia (-350) looks to begin what they hope is another long run into the NCAA Tournament. They bounced back and won it all last tournament after being the only No. 1 seed to ever fall to a No. 16 seed in 2018. Their slow-and-deliberate style means they likely won’t pile up a lot of points, and Ohio is a dangerous offensive team. An upset is certainly possible here, so AVOID.

Play our new, free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

OHIO +7 (-110) has the offensive weapons and up-tempo style to make noise in this NCAA Tournament, but unfortunately they have to face the slow and methodical defending champs. This one might look like an upset special early on, but Virginia -7 (-110) will show its championship mettle down the stretch, grinding out a one-possession win.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 129.5 (-115) and Virginia are two things that usually aren’t in the same sentence. But believe it or not, the Over is actually 5-1 across the past six games, and 4-1 in their past five games as a favorite. The Over is also 8-3 across the past 11 as an underdog for Ohio, too.

Virginia vs. Ohio odds: Wahoos heavily favored over Ohio in Round 1

Previewing Saturday’s Ohio Bobcats vs. Virginia Cavaliers odds and lines during their March Madness Round 1 matchup.

The 13-seed Ohio Bobcats (16-7) meet the 4-seed Virginia Cavaliers (18-6) Saturday, March 20 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Indiana for a first-round game in the West Regional. The tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m. ET and will broadcast on truTV.

Below, we look at the early March Madness Round 1 matchup Ohio-Virginia odds and lines. Will one of these teams end up as this year’s National Champion? Don’t forget to check out all of the teams’ March Madness odds.

Ohio basketball has had a proud history, and who can forget guys like Snoopy Graham, Dave Jamerson and Gary Trent, a.k.a. the “Shaq of the MAC”?

Head coach Jeff Boals, who previously had success at Stony Brook, has the Bobcats back in the Big Dance for the first time since 2012.

The last time Ohio was here they stunned 4-seed Michigan in their first game, and took down South Florida in the third round, reaching the Sweet Sixteen before getting ousted by North Carolina in overtime.

This season the Bobcats rolled through the MAC Tournament with three wins and three covers, including a 15-point win over Buffalo in the final as 2.5-point underdogs.

That avenged a 20-point dusting in the regular-season finale in Athens against the Bulls, the only loss and non-cover for the Bobcats across the past 10.

The last time we saw Virginia, or really, we didn’t see them, was at the ACC Tournament. They topped Syracuse in their opening game in Greensboro, but could not play Georgia Tech in the second game due to a positive COVID test within the program.

After a three-game SU and ATS skid from Feb. 15-24, they have rattled off wins in three in a row, although they still only covered one of those outings.

Remember, too, Virginia is the defending national champion. They cut down the nets in Minneapolis in April 2019. Last season, of course, we did not have an NCAA Tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so the ‘Hoos were the last team we saw featured in “One Shining Moment”.

They’re a 4-seed this year, but to be the champs you have to beat the champs, and they won’t likely go quietly into the night.

Ohio at Central Michigan odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Ohio Bobcats at Central Michigan Chippewas sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Ohio Bobcats and Central Michigan Chippewas open their seasons at Kelly/Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant, Mich., for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff Wednesday. Below, we analyze the Ohio-Central Michigan college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Ohio at Central Michigan: Betting odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 4:26 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Ohio -110 (bet $110 to win $100) | Central Michigan -110 (bet $110 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Ohio -1.5 (-103) | Central Michigan +1.5 (-120)
  • Over/Under: 59.5 (O: -115 | U: -106)

Ohio at Central Michigan: Three things to know

  1. Ohio will be gunning for the East Division title, looking to build off a seven-win season and a bowl victory against Nevada in 2019. The defense returns nine starters, and the Bobcats should be much improved. Ohio won each of its four conference road games last season, and they were 3-1 ATS.
  2. Central Michigan won the West Division and MAC Championship in 2019. Unfortunately for head coach Jim McElwain, the offensive line has just one starter returning. The Chippewas added several transfers, moved some existing players to the O-line and also made the position a priority in recruiting, but pass protection could be an issue early on.
  3. CMU QB David Moore was expected to be suspended for the first five games, as he serves a suspension for a banned substance. He has applied for reinstatement with the late start to the season, but there has been no word on a reduction or elimination of suspension from the NCAA. As such, redshirt-freshman QB Daniel Richardson has been named starter.

Ohio at Central Michigan: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Ohio 34, Central Michigan 27

Money line (ML)

OHIO (-110) is an outstanding play on the road. Yes, Central Michigan (-110) won the West Division last season, but it has had plenty of losses at key positions, especially the offensive line. Plus, quarterback is a huge question mark. Ohio’s pass rush should make things miserable for Richardson and the CMU offense.

Against the spread (ATS)

OHIO (-1.5, -103) doesn’t look like the play on paper. Central Michigan (+1.5, -120) is at home, it’s the defending conference champs and it’s 4-0 ATS in the past four meetings. However, the Bobcats have more returnees, especially at key positions, and the Chips offense is likely to be a bit discombobulated early on. Frank Solich’s bunch will open on the road with an impressive win, something they did all four times in conference play last season.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Chips saw the Over connect in five of their final seven MAC battles in 2019, and the Bobcats also hit the Over in five of their final seven conference tilts. Playing the Over is going against the trends in this series, as the Under is 4-0 in the past four meetings, and 4-1 in the past five in Mount Pleasant. But the OVER 59.5 (-115) is worth playing lightly in this one, as Ohio averaged 34.7 PPG last season, while CMU was good for 31.9 PPG.
