WATCH: Brandon McManus serves as a ref at Broncos training camp

Broncos kicker Bradon McManus dressed up as a referee for part of Thursday’s practice session.

Denver Broncos kicker Brandon McManus served as a referee for part of Thursday’s practice session. His teammates got a kick out of it, as the above video shows.

McManus caused some controversy when tight end Albert Okwuegbunam catch a pass in the end zone and McManus ruled it a touchdown. The defense disagreed but McManus had a very prudent explanation for his decision.

“If I call it incomplete, it’s not reviewable,” McManus said. “I’d rather let the booth decide.”

McManus said in an interview with the team’s official website that only the team’s equipment staff knew he was planning to officiate practice.

“Once I had done my job [kicking to] the returners, I went in and got changed and came out in the ref outfit,” McManus said. “It was funny, a lot of people were like, ‘Wow, where did the ref come from all of a sudden?’ They had no idea initially it was me.”

McManus went 29-of-34 on field goals in 2019. Denver’s coaching staff is probably hoping McManus will keep his day job as the team’s kicker.

2020 Cowboys schedule: Dallas has 5 primetime games

The Dallas Cowboys schedule is now out.

The Dallas Cowboys have known the 13 teams they will face for the 2020 season for some time, now they know the order. The NFL released the full 17-week, 16-game schedule for all 32 teams. Normally the schedule release means fans near and far will start to make their plans on which games they will attend, but not so much in 2020.

Now all eyes will focus on deciphering how the league scheduled around the real possibility not every game will be played and that some stadiums will not be ready, or allowed to open. The official schedule is now out and Dallas has an interesting mix of opponents.  The schedule features a maximum of five primetime games, as America’s Team always brings in maximum ratings for whatever network carries their games.

Three games will be on Sunday Night football, one on Monday night football and their new tradition of playing the Thursday after Thanksgiving will have all eyes oin them.

Dallas opens up with the Los Angeles Rams on September 13 at 7:20 p.m. CT.  The Sunday Night football matchup will potentially be the christening of the Rams new SoFi Stadium.

Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones was instrumental in getting the Rams back to L.A. and getting the new stadium. Dallas christened their return to California in the preseason back in 2016 and now they will be the first team to write on the visitor’s locker room walls in the new digs. Provided of course California lets the game happen in their state and the construction is finished.

The Cowboys face off against the defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers at home in Week  15 on SNF. Dallas gets their first shot to dethrone NFC East champion Philadelphia in Week 8, and then they’ll rematch against the Eagles in Week 16.

When it’s all said and done, we’ll track the complete slate for the defending NFC East champion Cowboys.

2020 Saints schedule: New Orleans has five primetime games

The 2020 NFL schedule includes five primetime games for the New Orleans Saints, three of which will be played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome

[jwplayer Seu61RXd-ThvAeFxT]

The New Orleans Saints released their 2020 schedule on Thursday, and they rank among the NFL’s leaders in nationally-broadcast primetime games. The Saints will kick off under the sport’s brightest lights in road games with the Las Vegas Raiders (Week 2) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Week 9), while playing host in night games at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome against the Green Bay Packers (Week 3) and the Los Angeles Chargers (Week 5). New Orleans will also welcome the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas Day (Week 16), the only NFL game to be played that day.

Other highlights on this year’s Saints schedule include a Week 1 home opener against Tom Brady and the much-hyped Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as well as an early-year matchup with Teddy Bridgewater and the new-look Carolina Panthers (Week 7). And the Saints will see those same Panthers again in the regular season finale (Week 17) for the third year in a row.

Curiously, the Saints’ chief NFC South rival, the Atlanta Falcons, will play both of their games with New Orleans at noon this year — the lack of a brighter spotlight speaks to the sorry state of that franchise, and their low expectations. However, the Saints will play the Falcons twice in three weeks, so this obviously isn’t a game to overlook.

Here’s your cheat sheet to this year’s slate of Saints games:

  • Week 1: Saints vs. Buccaneers 3:25 p.m. CT
  • Week 2: Saints at Raiders 7:15 p.m. CT (Monday Night Football)
  • Week 3: Saints vs. Packers 7:20 p.m. CT (Sunday Night Football)
  • Week 4: Saints at Lions 12:00 p.m. CT
  • Week 5: Saints vs. Chargers 7:15 p.m. CT (Monday Night Football)
  • Week 6: Bye
  • Week 7: Saints vs. Panthers 12:00 p.m. CT
  • Week 8: Saints at Bears 3:25 p.m. CT
  • Week 9: Saints at Buccaneers 7:20 p.m. CT (Sunday Night Football)
  • Week 10: Saints vs. 49ers 3:25 p.m. CT
  • Week 11: Saints vs. Falcons 12:00 p.m. CT
  • Week 12: Saints at Broncos 3:05 p.m. CT
  • Week 13: Saints at Falcons 12:00 p.m. CT
  • Week 14: Saints at Eagles 3:25 p.m. CT
  • Week 15: Saints vs. Chiefs 3:25 p.m. CT
  • Week 16: Saints at Vikings 3:30 p.m. CT (Christmas Day)
  • Week 17: Saints at Panthers 12:00 p.m. CT

Seahawks’ trade for CB Quinton Dunbar from Washington now official

The Seattle Seahawks have officially announced the trade for former Washington Redskins cornerback Quinton Dunbar for a fifth-round pick.

The Seattle Seahawks pulled off an impressive trade this week, acquiring cornerback Quinton Dunbar from the Washington Redskins for a fifth-round pick in April’s NFL draft.

Dunbar entered the league in 2015 as an undrafted, free-agent wide receiver out of Florida but was quickly converted to cornerback during training camp of his rookie season and ended up earning the starting nod in 2018.

For Washington last year, Dunbar started 11 games before he landed on the injured reserve with a hamstring injury. He logged four interceptions, eight passes defended and 37 tackles in 2019.

Dunbar has one year left on his current contract – a $3.25 million base salary with $250,000 in per-game roster bonuses.

Seattle has made it clear beefing up all aspects of the defense will be a focus this offseason and adding a proven starter to the competition in the secondary is a step in the right direction.

After the trade, the Seahawks have no selection in the fifth round of the NFL draft but have seven total picks remaining.
