LSU offers three-star tight end from California

The Tigers are one of several top programs targeting the 6-foot-8-inch west coast product.

LSU is trying to land the services of an absolutely massive tight-end prospect in the 2023 recruiting class.

Collins Acheampong is a 6-foot-8, 230-pound player from Fairmont Prep Academy in Anaheim, California. When it comes to unconventional recruitment, this definitely would fit the bill. Acheampong has made a name for himself mainly through the camp scene.

As you can see below, the only film available for him is from his Freshman year in 2019. Why? Due to COVID, Fairmont Prep shut down its football program after the 2019 season. That didn’t stop Collins from working hard and getting offers though as he has amassed 10 Division I offers even though he has only played one year of varsity football.

LSU offers JUCO All-American wide reciever prospect

The Tigers are trying to gain the attention of one of the top JUCO players in the country in Malik Benson.

One of the most coveted wide receiver prospects in the country for the 2023 class is 6-foot, 185-pound JUCO All-American wide receiver Malik Benson. LSU is hoping to get a foot in the door, as it offered Benson on Wednesday.

He plays for Hutchinson Community College in Kansas, which finished last season 9-2. The Blue Dragons were the champions of the Kansas Jayhawks Community College Conference (KJCCC) and the winners of the 2021 Salt Lake City Bowl.

Benson played a gigantic role in that success as he appeared in 11 games recording 43 receptions for 1,229 yards and 11 touchdowns. Those stats earned him All-American honors and made him a target for the top colleges in America.

Since Jan. 13, 2021, Benson has received 22 Division I offers. Eight of them came from SEC schools (LSU, Missouri, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi State).

LSU has some good receivers, but you can always use more. Benson would be a great addition to an already talented receiving corps. That is, if the Tigers can stave off the other competitors.

Tigers extend offer to 4-star offensive line prospect

Can the Tigers steal a talented OL prospect from right out of Alabama and Auburn’s backyard?

Ryqueze McElderry is a four-star offensive lineman from Anniston, Alabama. The 6-foot-3 340 pound lineman starts for the Class 4A Anniston Bulldogs, a team I have some familiarity with.

The Anniston Bulldogs were led to a 5-5 record and a first-round playoff loss to the St. James Trojans by 2022 Alabama signee and four-star athlete Antonio Kite, as well as a plethora of pancakes by McElderry.

McElderry is currently committed to play for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Anniston is pretty much sandwiched between Alabama and Auburn, so I’d expect both of them to make a run at him as 2023 recruiting ramps up. Hopefully, Coach Kelly can work his magic with McElderry, because he is a human motor grader.

LSU offers 4-star wide receiver from Texas

Ryan Niblett is listed as the nation’s No. 52 prospect by 247Sports and Rivals.

LSU coach Brian Kelly continues to make offensive playmakers a priority in the 2023 recruiting class.

On Thursday, the Tigers offered Ryan Niblett, a 6-foot, 170-pound wide receiver from Houston, Texas. He plays his high school ball for Class 6A Aldine Eisenhower High School on an Eagles team that finished last season 3-7.

If there is one thing you can always use an abundance of, it’s playmakers. Niblett fits that mold. He plays wide receiver mostly, but he is also listed as a quarterback, so that could allow for some fun offensive trick plays on the Bayou if he decides to come to LSU.

With Kayshon Boutte probably leaving LSU as the potential No. 1 receiver taken in the 2023 draft, head coach Brian Kelly will be in search of athletes to fill the void that he will leave.

LSU offers 4-star edge rusher out of Utah

The Tigers are pursuing Hunter Clegg, but the home-state Utes are currently considered the favorite.

Hunter Clegg is a 6-foot-4-inch, 235-pound edge rusher from American Fork, Utah. Hunter plays a multitude of positions for the American Fork Cavemen football team. He plays edge rusher, wide receiver, tight end, and offensive tackle. The Cavemen went 7-4 last year and failed to make the playoffs.

Clegg’s recruitment has picked up here recently as he has received offers from Washington, West Virginia, Arizona, and LSU since January. He has a crystal ball projection to go play for the Utah Utes, which would make sense if he wants to play close to home. American Fork is only 33 minutes away from the University of Utah.

Don’t count Brian Kelly out, though. He’s the kind of coach that can go into the heart of Utah and bring a kid back to the boot.

Tigers offer 6 more prospects from 2023 class

LSU coach Brian Kelly remains very busy on the trail.

Another day, another handful of recruiting offers coming from coach Brian Kelly.

If I keep writing about offers like this, people are gonna start referring to me as Bill Nye, the offer guy. I’m alright with that. Recruiting is important.

Not many people are as aware of that as Brian Kelly is, which is why he is going all over the country looking for the best athletes to bring to the boot. We’re going to look at six recruits Brian Kelly has offered within the past two days. One from Texas, two from Indiana, one from Florida, and two from Missouri.

Three Florida Gators 2021 football commits receive official offers from program

Three members of Florida’s 2021 class, Diwun Black, Carlos Del Rio-Wilson and Donovan McMillon, received their official offers on Saturday.

Jameis Winston turned down better contract offers to pursue the Saints

Tampa Bay Buccaneers free agent quarterback Jameis Winston turned down better contract offers to pursue a deal with the New Orleans Saints.

Jameis Winston saw how Teddy Bridgewater benefited from a year or two on the New Orleans Saints depth chart, and decided he wanted that experience for himself. The former first overall draft pick passed up “more lucrative offers” from other teams as a free agent this offseason, which was reported by both Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football and  NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The opportunity to learn from Drew Brees, Sean Payton, and Saints quarterbacks coach Joe Lombardi was something Winston couldn’t attach a dollar value to. He’s a starting-quality quarterback despite the 30 interceptions he threw last year, which is just a much a product of his own poor decision-making as the offense he was running.

Bruce Arians wants his passers to rip it deep down the field as often as possible, and that’s reflected in Winston’s career-high pass attempts (626), passing yards (5,109), and sacks (47). The Saints will take a smarter approach when and if he ever takes the field in New Orleans.

But let’s not lose sight of what’s important. There were a few starting quarterback jobs open this offseason, and many teams would have liked to add an experienced backup like Winston behind rookies and youngsters like Justin Herbert, Mitchell Trubisky, or Gardner Minshew. Instead, he passed on those short-term paychecks for a move that might turn his career around.

And that savvy thinking might be the first sign that Winston’s maturing and keeping his head right. It’s a fascinating development to say the least.
