Former IMG Academy OL picks up offer from Gators, visits for Junior Day

Florida is ramping things up for the class of 2026 recruiting cycle, and one of the early offensive line targets is Picayune’s Mitchell Smith.

Picayune Memorial (Mississippi) offensive tackle [autotag]Mitchell Smith[/autotag] is one of the more recent offers for Florida, and the Gators got a chance to host him for their first junior day of January.

Smith already had plans to visit Florida, but he locked in the date once offensive line coach Jonathan Decoster extended a scholarship in the week leading up to the trip. The two spent time together with Florida’s other offensive line coach, Rob Sale, last Saturday, according to Swamp247.

“Getting to put a name to a face. That was a big thing for me, personally,” Smith said to 247Sports. “We sat down in the offensive line meeting room and we went over some basic stuff. Got to see the way they teach and whatnot. I like how they do things. They have like three or four offensive line coaches to teach and help you.”

Smith left impressed with Florida’s developmental ability and might still be raving about the facilities available in Gainesville.

“I’d definitely say (Florida’s) high up there now,” he said. “I wouldn’t say I’m a diehard Florida fan, but I’ve always followed the program and whatnot. Started following and learning about Tim Tebow when he was there, so they’re definitely up there when it comes to my recruiting path.”

Florida isn’t the only Power Four team hosting Smith during the winter. He was at Florida State in December for a junior day, made his way to Ole Miss earlier this month and hit LSU after Florida. Auburn and Mississippi State are other programs looking to get him on campus in February.

Smith’s recruitment picked up during the fall of 2023 when his sophomore tape began circulating. Louisiana-Lafayette was the only team to host him for a camp between ninth and 10th grade, but the in-state trio of Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss joined the race before the year got out. Alabama was another early player in his recruitment.

Then, he transferred to IMG Academy for his junior year and his offer sheet filled up with SEC programs. Florida offered him most recently ahead of his junior day visit. Now set to finish his high school career back in Mississippi, Smith looks like a rising star in the offensive line market.

Florida is recruiting him as an interior lineman but he’ll get a shot to play tackle too because of his size. Where he ends up depends on how he looks, but the flexibility is part of the Gators’ pitch.

Scouting Report

“There’s already plenty of buzz inside IMG Academy’s football facilities about Smith, and it’s easy to see why,” 247Sports scouting director Andrew Ivings wrote in a March report. “He punished defenders as a sophomore at Mississippi’s Picayune Memorial and carries his weight well. We really liked what we saw out of Smith during drive-blocking drills as he shot out of his stance.

Florida gets in-state OL target on campus after extending offer

Florida got in-state offensive line target Rhys Woodward on campus over the weekend after extending an offer earlier this month.

Florida offered Boone (Orlando) offensive lineman [autotag]Rhys Woodrow[/autotag] on Jan. 6 and wasted no time getting him on campus over the weekend for the Gators’ second junior day.

Recruiting has picked up in general for Woodrow over the last month. More than half of his offers 14 have come in since the Gators offered, and he should be one of the more watched linemen in the state come the fall season.

Marshall offered him first nearly a year ago, and the trio of Georgia Tech, Miami and UCF followed suit in May. Coastal Carolina waited until June when he was on campus for a training camp, and eight more offers came in this month. Florida had hosted Woodrow before for a training camp, which is when offensive line coach John Decoster noticed him.

“The first time I met Coach Decoster was at a camp (last June), and he picked me out to be in the main camp group,” Woodrow said to 247Sports. “I haven’t really had a ton of contact with him since then until he called me to offer me earlier this month. It was good to see him again for the visit.”

Decoster is a fan of the aggressive nature Woodrow plays with and Florida views him as a center at the next level. The Gators made sure to get him some time with All-American first-team center Jake Slaughter.

“(Slaughter) said it’s great, that they developed him into who he is now,” Woodrow said to Gators Online. “That’s one of the most important things in my eyes — probably the most important thing. Florida looks great with development.”

Woodrow also got to tour the facilities and get a good look at the academic resources available in Gainesville. He ran through concepts with the coaches, including Florida’s other offensive line coach, Rob Sale, who is also recruiting Woodrow and plans to visit his school next week.

While there is no official list of top schools just yet, Woodrow sees Florida, Florida State and Miami as the standout programs. Much of that opinion is based on visits to local programs, but he should get more out-of-state opportunities in the coming months. He has an official visit planned to Miami in June and expects to make one to Florida.

Recruiting Summary

Woodrow is not ranked by any major recruiting service, but he should get a few looks after being hosted by two of the big three in Florida. Boone has produced Division I talent in the past and Woodrow has been an area standout since his freshman year.

An injury that ended his sophomore year early might have slowed down his recruitment, but things picked up in full force once the focus turned to the class of 2026.

Visit History

Woodrow has visited Florida twice, once last summer (June 17) and the junior day visit (Jan. 25). Florida State also got him on campus last weekend for a junior day, and he was at Miami’s 7-on-7 tournament earlier this month.

He made four gameday visits last season:

  • Aug. 30; UCF vs. New Hampshire
  • Oct. 11; UCF vs. Cincinnati
  • Oct. 28; Miami vs. Florida State
  • Nov. 23; Coastal Carolina vs. Georgia Southern
  • Nov. 30; Penn State vs. Maryland

The closest Division I program to Boone is UCF, and the Knights have hosted Woodrow a few times. in addition to the game day trip, he attended spring practice in March and camped there over the summer.

Woodrow also camped at Coastal Carolina, Florida, Florida State, Penn State and Wake Forest this summer.

Crystal Ball/Predictions

With no official predictions submitted, the On3 recruiting prediction machine favors Florida with 54.9% odds, followed by Florida State (25.2%) and UCF (2.0%). There are 11 other teams tied for fourth place with 1.6%, including Arkansas, Miami and Vanderbilt.

Michigan football offers elite 2026 cornerback in DMV

Another big-time offer extended. #GoBlue

LaMar Morgan has been a busy man when it comes to extending offers.

On Monday, he offered a safety duo in the state of Georgia, but he’s continuing to be aggressive when it comes to filling out his room, looking for the next great Michigan football defensive backs.

On Tuesday, that trend continued, but instead of offering safeties, he’s extended an offer to an elite cornerback out of the DMV.

2026 Towson (Md.) Loyola Blakefield four-star cornerback Khary Adams already has offers from the likes of Kentucky, LSU, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, and others, and now the 6-foot-2, 175-pound DB can add the Wolverines to his list.

Here is how Adams ranks according to the recruiting services:

Michigan football has one cornerback already committed in 2026 in Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin four-star Brody Jennings, who has been chased by other schools but has consistently reaffirmed his pledge to the maize and blue.

Michigan football offers pair of rising 2026 safeties in SEC country

Making some moves! #GoBlue

Michigan football isn’t just making the rounds when it comes to building upon already established relationships with 2026 prospects, but it’s also establishing new ones.

On Monday, the Wolverines issued a new offer to yet another prospect in the heart of SEC country, this time to 2026 Atlanta (Ga.) Woodward Academy four-star safety Blake Stewart. Listed at 6-feet, 170 pounds, Stewart has offers from the likes of Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Kentucky, and others.

Here’s how he ranks according to the recruiting services:

But that’s not all. The Wolverines also offered another safety in the Atlanta area in 2026 Marietta (Ga.) Sprayberry safety Kealan Jones.

Jones is listed at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, Jones is currently unranked according to all of the recruiting services, but has offers from Auburn, Arizona State, NC State, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Indiana, and Georgia Tech.

Michigan had a solid safety class last cycle with four-stars Kainoa Winston, Elijah Dotson, and Jordan Young all signing with the Wolverines.

Wisconsin offers one of the top-ranked quarterbacks in the class of 2026

Wisconsin offers one of the top-ranked quarterbacks in the class of 2026

Wisconsin football extended an offer to class of 2026 quarterback Bowe Bentley on Tuesday.

The offer was sent on the same day that three-star quarterback Jarin Mock decommitted from the program, a move that returned the position to a top need in the cycle.

247Sports ranks Bentley as the No. 180 player in the class, No. 11 quarterback and No. 28 recruit from his home state of Texas. Wisconsin is one of the top programs currently in pursuit of the Celina, Texas native. His other top offers include Boston College, California, Cincinnati, Duke, Georgia Tech, Texas Tech and Tulane.

Wisconsin is looking to continue a strong stretch of recruiting the position since the firing of former offensive coordinator Phil Longo in November. As the Badgers hired new coordinator Jeff Grimes, they also added top-ranked QB Carter Smith to its class of 2025 and landed commitments from highly-coveted transfers Danny O’Neil and Billy Edwards Jr.

A potential commitment from Bentley would continue a top-down overhaul of the position since Longo’s departure.

Mock’s departure from the room coinciding with the offer to Bentley shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Every Longo quarterback commit or signee now plays elsewhere, that once Mock pledges elsewhere. Tyler Van Dyke transferred to SMU, Braedyn Locke transferred to Arizona, Mabrey Mettauer transferred to Sam Houston State and 2025 signee Landyn Locke walked back his NLI and flipped to Sam Houston State. Those final two both followed Longo to his new program.

In-state interior offensive lineman Benjamin Novak is Wisconsin’s only commitment in the class of 2026. Bentley should be one of the program’s many pursuits at the position.

Purdue in pursuit of former Wisconsin defensive lineman

Purdue in pursuit of former Wisconsin defensive lineman

Purdue extended an offer to former Wisconsin and Colorado State transfer defensive lineman Gabe Kirschke on Wednesday.

Kirschke recently reentered the portal after one year at Colorado State. He previously spent two seasons at Wisconsin (2022-23) after joining the program as a walk-on in its class of 2022.

Related: Where Wisconsin football transfers have signed so far

Kirschke is fresh off a breakout 2024 season with the Rams. He finished with 42 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 6 1/2 sacks, two pass deflections, one interception and two forced fumbles. His TFL and sack totals each led the team by a wide margin.

The former Badger is now looking to jump back up to the Power Four level. He’s already received transfer offers from Kansas, West Virginia and Purdue.

Purdue is amid a program overhaul under new head coach Barry Odom. The Boilermakers went 5-19 in two seasons under Ryan Walters. He was dismissed after their 1-11 2024 campaign.

The program saw 24 players enter the transfer portal during the recent winter window, including star safety Dillon Thieneman (transferred to Oregon), defensive end Will Heldt (Clemson) and tight end Max Klare (Ohio State). Odom and his staff are forced with rebuilding both sides of the football, including defensive line. Kirschke could be a primary target in that regard.

Wisconsin does not play Purdue in 2025. It does in 2026, which would be Kirschke’s final year of eligibility.

Phil Longo in pursuit of former Wisconsin class of 2025 quarterback signee

Phil Longo in pursuit of former Wisconsin class of 2025 quarterback signee

Sam Houston State extended an offer to former Wisconsin class of 2025 signee quarterback Landyn Locke on Monday.

Notably, Sam Houston State’s new head coach is former Badgers offensive coordinator Phil Longo. The Bearkats hired Longo earlier this month after head coach K.C. Keeler left for the Temple vacancy. Longo is currently in the process of bolstering the program’s quarterback pipeline — something he also did immediately upon arrival in Madison in December 2022.

Related: Where Wisconsin football transfers have signed so far

Longo is predictably utilizing established connections for that recruiting push. He already landed Wisconsin transfer quarterback Mabrey Mettauer, a player he originally recruited, and is now looking to add Locke to a class of 2025 that currently has just seven players signed.

Landyn Locke, the younger brother of former Badgers’ starter Braedyn Locke, is listed as a three-star recruit by 247Sports, ranked as the No. 1,108 player in the class, No. 64 quarterback and No. 172 player from his home state of Texas.

Locke was one of Wisconsin’s earliest commits in the cycle. He stuck with the program through the early signing period, even after Longo’s dismissal in mid November.

The three-star recruit then finally decommitted from Wisconsin in mid-December after the program hired new offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes and made a flurry of moves within the room. The Badgers landed top-ranked class of 2025 quarterback Carter Smith, then transfers Danny O’Neil and Billy Edwards Jr. in short order. The room saw a top-down overhaul, as Braedyn Locke and Tyler Van Dyke each also transferred out.

Landyn Locke’s recruitment remains open. He also recently picked up an offer from Florida International, adding to an offer sheet that includes Duke, Miami, SMU and Tulsa.

Phil Longo’s tenure at Sam Houston State will be one to watch for Badgers fans. That reality will only heighten if Mettauer and Locke become the program’s future at quarterback.

Reviewing Wisconsin’s remaining top transfer portal cornerback targets

Recap of Wisconsin’s remaining top transfer portal cornerback targets

Wisconsin has been among the most active programs during the recently concluded winter transfer window.

The Badgers added commitments from 17 players (16 scholarship, one walk-on). That group is in the top 10 of 247Sports’ team transfer portal class rankings.

Related: Tracking Wisconsin football’s transfer portal offers, interests and commitments

Those additions were made as the program lost 24 scholarship players to the portal (pending Xavier Lucas’ departure). Many of those departures came from the cornerback and safety rooms, creating two glaring roster needs.

The Badgers have addressed the latter with commitments from Matthew Traynor (Richmond) and Matt Jung (Bethel). While they also landed a projected starting cornerback, Jacksonville State transfer Geimere Latimer, the position remains a significant need.

Wisconsin’s transfer portal activity reflects that reality. The Badgers are in pursuit of several accomplished transfer cornerbacks. Although the winter window closed on Dec. 28, players already in the portal have unlimited time to find a destination.

The Badgers have three primary targets who remain uncommitted: Dwight Lewis III (Marian), Marcellus Barnes Jr. (Syracuse) and Sascha Garcia (William & Mary).

Wisconsin hosted both Lewis III and Barnes Jr. on official visits this month: Lewis on Dec. 21 and Barnes on Dec. 22. It extended an offer to Garcia on Dec. 29.

Here’s more on each target:

Dwight Lewis III (Marian): Senior (one year of eligibility remaining). Multiyear starter at NAIA level; recorded 25 tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, four interceptions and two pass deflections in 2024. Also took visits to Mississippi State and Arizona.

Marcellus Barnes Jr. (Syracuse): Freshman (three years remaining). Started as a true freshman in 2024, totaling 11 tackles and three pass deflections in five games (suffered season-ending injury in early November).

Sascha Garcia (William & Mary): Redshirt freshman (three years remaining). Football Championship Subdivision Freshman All-American in 2024, totaling 19 tackles (14 solo) and 11 pass deflections. Offers from notable programs including Maryland, Utah and Cincinnati.

Wisconsin is nearly guaranteed to land another transfer, or several, at cornerback. The team lost redshirt freshmen Jonas Duclona, Jace Arnold and Amare Snowden, senior Max Lofy, and top true freshman Xavier Lucas (still not official) this portal window. It could have three new starters at the position in 2025, pending Ricardo Hallman’s decision to either return for a final season or enter the 2025 NFL draft. Depth is still a significant need even if Hallman returns.

Lewis, Barnes and Garcia appear to be three top options to fill that role at this late stage of the cycle.

Wisconsin in pursuit of FCS All-American transfer cornerback

Wisconsin in pursuit of FCS transfer cornerback

Wisconsin extended an offer to William & Mary transfer cornerback Sascha Garcia on Sunday.

The Badgers are looking to bolster a cornerback room that lost significant depth to the transfer portal this month, in addition to projected starter Xavier Lucas (pending a resolution of the current situation). The room is the program’s biggest need at this stage of the transfer process.

Related: Ranking Wisconsin football’s transfer portal class by projected 2025 impact

Garcia entered the portal after two seasons at William & Mary. He redshirted in 2023 before playing in 14 games in 2024, totaling 19 total tackles (14 solo) and 11 pass deflections. That output was enough to earn Football Championship Subdivision Freshman All-American honors.

Wisconsin is contending with reported offers from Maryland, Cincinnati, UMass, Western Kentucky, Eastern Carolina, Sacramento State, Utah State and Akron.

Garcia would instantly add impressive depth to the Badgers’ cornerback room, if not a day-one starting option. He is in the portal with three years of eligibility remaining.

Wisconsin added outside linebacker John Pius from William & Mary last offseason. While Pius did not reach expectations atop the Badgers’ linebacker depth chart in 2024, the team doesn’t appear hesitant to keep pursuing the program’s top transfers.

Wisconsin offers, lands visit with San Diego State transfer quarterback

Wisconsin offers, lands visit with San Diego State transfer quarterback

Wisconsin has an official visit scheduled with San Diego State transfer quarterback Danny O’Neil, according to On3’s Steve Wiltfong.

This report follows O’Neil entering the portal earlier Thursday. He is the first quarterback on Wisconsin’s reported list of transfer offers and visits. Wiltfong reports the freshman transfer will visit the Badgers this weekend.

Related: Tracking Wisconsin football’s transfer portal offers, interests and commitments

O’Neil entered the transfer portal after one season at San Diego State. He started as a true freshman, completing 63.3% of his passes for 2,181 yards, 12 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Head coach Sean Lewis’ Aztecs went 3-9 in 2024 with O’Neil at the helm and finished with the nation’s No. 117-ranked scoring offense. That may be due more to O’Neil’s circumstances than to his specific play.

The promising freshman is in the portal with three years of eligibility remaining.

O’Neil has yet to receive a transfer ranking by 247Sports. He’d bring a combination of youth and promise to Wisconsin’s quarterbacks room as new coordinator Jeff Grimes works to rebuild the offense.

While Wisconsin may be better served finding a veteran to bridge the gap until top signee Carter Smith is ready to start, O’Neil is a rare underclassman transfer to also have starting experience at the position.

Wisconsin is in the quarterback market after the recent departures of Tyler Van Dyke and Braedyn Locke to the transfer portal. Many of the dominoes at the position are falling rather quickly, so the Badgers already locking in an offer and visit with O’Neil makes him a top target to watch.
