Broncos fans will like Mike McGlinchey’s report on Bo Nix

“The moment isn’t too big for him,” Mike McGlinchey said of Bo Nix. “He’s ready for it, and he’s ready to go attack it.”

Denver Broncos right tackle Mike McGlinchey has been full of praise for rookie quarterback Bo Nix this summer, and that trend continued last week.

“[T]he rapid improvement has been super impressive to me,” McGlinchey said of Nix’s progress. “From OTAs when he first got here in May to where he’s at now, he’s a different football player. It’s a great sense of who he is as a pro and who he is as a competitor to learn that fast and put himself in a position to lead our football team. Everybody is excited for him to do that.

“There have been so many examples of him showing composure and his collection in the huddle. His ability to stay calm no matter the situation out there. He was the same on the practice field as he was in the two games that we’ve lined up so far. That speaks to his composure as much as anything. The moment isn’t too big for him. He’s ready for it, and he’s ready to go attack it.”

Nix’s maturity and composure have been referenced by multiple teammates this offseason, and McGlinchey also praised Nix’s leadership style.

“I think he’s been great,” the lineman said. “Bo is a great dude. He’s a great guy to hang out with [and] a great guy to have a conversation with. I think he’s fit in unbelievably well, and he has come in and been authentically himself. I think that’s all you can ask for from him.

“For us, he doesn’t have to be somebody that he’s not just because he’s the quarterback of an NFL franchise. He’s a homegrown dude that really likes playing football and really likes being a teammate. That’s definitely shown through to the rest of us in the way that we appreciate his work so far.”

That’s about as positive of a report a rookie quarterback could receive from a seventh-year veteran and team captain. McGlinchey’s comments should have Broncos fans feeling excited about Nix going into the 2024 campaign.

Why did Frank Crum make the Broncos’ 53-man roster?

Frank Crum made the Broncos’ 53-man roster after allowing three sacks in preseason. Those sacks didn’t tell the whole story.

When the Denver Broncos set their 53-man roster earlier this week, many fans were surprised to see undrafted free agent Frank Crum made the cut.

Crum, an offensive tackle out of Wyoming, seemingly struggled in preseason, allowing three sacks. Denver’s staff watched film of his entire summer, though, and they knew he was unlikely to clear waivers if the team attempted to drop him down to the practice squad.

“His tape has been really good,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said Wednesday. “We all saw two or three sacks, but it’s interesting when you sit up in that room and you just watch every snap from training camp and then the game, which we do. Not only of our own guys. Last night I think we finished at 1:30 in the morning and we were watching this player from another team, this player from another team, this player from another team and this player from our team.

“It gives you a better grasp as to where this guy is at. Certainly, he was a guy that we had to really battle in free agency on, but man his size and upside — he wasn’t one that we were considering [waiving]. We felt like he made this team. Then all week, we go through the process of who do we think can make it through waivers and it’s not a science.”

As Payton noted, Crum (6-8, 315 pounds) was one of the top college free agents available after the draft, and Denver had to beat out other clubs to sign him. The Broncos closed the deal by giving the offensive tackle $250,000 in guaranteed salary and a $25,000 signing bonus.

Crum had some growing pains in preseason, but Denver likes his long-term upside. Fans don’t have access to practice film and even if they did, one still has to know what to look for. Payton and Co. believe they’ve found a gem in Crum and while he still needs time to develop, he was not a cut candidate.

Mike McGlinchey says Bo Nix has avoided mistake ‘probably every player makes’

“He has a very unique combination of humility and confidence that goes a long way for his position,” Mike McGlinchey said of Bo Nix.

The positive reviews for Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix continue to pour in both from defensive and offensive teammates. Broncos coach Sean Payton can’t hide his excitement for the QB, either. It’s easy to see why.

Nix, 24, entered the league as the most-experienced college quarterback ever with 61 career starts. Consequently, he is more mature and composed than a typical rookie quarterback. That’s according to teammates.

Broncos right tackle Mike McGlinchey added to the praise this week, noting that Nix has avoided a key mistake that happens to nearly every player in the NFL.

“Well certainly you see a guy that’s not afraid to compete,” McGlinchey said Wednesday. “I think that’s the biggest factor for him as he’s come into this camp. You could put yourself behind by playing hesitant. It’s certainly a mistake that probably every player makes at some point in his career and especially as a young guy. We haven’t seen any of that from Bo and that’s been a really, really cool thing to watch. Certainly, he’s going to keep building on that confidence too.

“I said it the other day, he has a very unique combination of humility and confidence that goes a long way for his position and certainly, as a rookie stepping in here with a lot of pressure on himself. He’s taken that [in] stride and there’s no fear of competition and there’s no fear of getting out there and going for it. That certainly has showed in the way that he’s progressed all of camp.”

Nix impressed in his NFL debut against the Indianapolis Colts last week and he is now set to start against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Based on all of the reports from training camp and Nix’s performance, the QB seems to be well on his way to winning the starting job in Denver.

3 offensive linemen worked out for the Broncos on Thursday

Offensive linemen Aaron Monteiro, Mike Novitsky and Mike Panasiuk worked out for the Broncos on Thursday.

The Denver Broncos brought in three offensive linemen for workouts on Thursday, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Denver brought in tackle Aaron Monteiro, center Mike Novitsky and guard Mike Panasiuk.

Monteiro (6-6, 315 pounds) played college football at Boston College, earning third-team All-ACC recognition as a senior in 2018. He has spent time with the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers and Washington Commanders, but he has never played in a regular-season game.

Novitsky (6-5, 295 pounds) played college football at Buffalo and Kansas. He signed with the Seattle Seahawks in April and he was waived earlier this month.

Panasiuk (6-4, 300 pounds) played college football at Michigan State. He has spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders and Panthers but has only ever played in preseason games.

Elsewhere in the NFL, former Broncos wide receiver Trinty Benson and linebacker Justin Hollins worked out for the Commanders earlier this week. Hollins also worked out for the Indianapolis Colts.

Denver seems to be looking for more depth on the offensive line going into Week 2 of NFL preseason. We’ll track any potential signings on Broncos Wire.

Rookie Chiefs OL reflects on preseason opener: ‘I love being out here’

Kansas City #Chiefs OL Kingsley Suamataia reflects on preseason opener: ‘I love being out here’ | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive line continues to be their focus as they prepare for a new season.

Chiefs rookie offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia spoke with reporters on Tuesday after practice, reflecting on his preseason debut and eagerness to do more on the field.

“I only got to play a little bit for the first drive, but shoot, if I get more reps, you’re gonna see more of an animal just coming out there, flying around to the ball, be around the ball a lot.” Said Suamataia. “Just have fun out there at the end of the day.”

Suamataia played with the starters and only saw one series vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he understood that he’d get more work in training camp, practicing with the first team.

“I love being out here, grinding again with all my teammates, growing that bond — defensive side of the ball and with the offensive guys,” said Suamataia. “So it’s really great. It’s a big family, so I love it.”

The injury suffered by Wanya Morris last week held him out of Saturday’s game against the Jaguars. Suamataia hasn’t been officially named the starting left tackle, but he’s gained plenty of momentum before the decision.

Broncos coach Sean Payton provides update on Quinn Bailey

“Very quickly he’ll be in the building here rehabbing and I think that’ll be good when he’s around his teammates,” Payton said of Bailey.

Denver Broncos offensive lineman Quinn Bailey was carted off the practice field on Wednesday and placed on the team’s season-ending injured reserve list on Thursday. After the lineman was placed on IR, Broncos coach Sean Payton provided an update on the injury.

“There are two parts to the injury,” Payton explained. “He dislocated his ankle and he fractured his fibula, the smaller bone a little further up. Next week — I don’t have the day yet, but he’ll have the ankle surgery and there’s probably a good chance they’ll just leave the fibula and let it heal, but they’ll look at that. The main injury is the ankle, so he’ll have that done next week.”

Bailey was poised to serve as the team’s top backup offensive lineman this season before his injury. Payton spoke with Bailey after the lineman was released from the hospital.

“They set it, and then when I spoke with him, he was at home,” Payton said. “He sounded a little groggy, but upbeat. Very quickly he’ll be in the building here rehabbing and I think that’ll be good when he’s around his teammates.”

Bailey, 28, was used in “jumbo” formations last season. He started two games over the last two years, playing 143 snaps in 2023. The Broncos will now do their best to help Bailey recover and return to the field in 2025.

Four-star offensive tackle from Utah lists USC in top five

USC trails Utah in this recruitment. The announcement date is August 8.

Spanish Fork (Utah) offensive tackle Aaron Dunn is set to announce his commitment on Thursday, August 8, on the 247Sports YouTube channel. Dunn will decide from BYU, Oregon, UCLA, USC football, and the favorite in this recruitment, the Utah Utes.

The 6’7 285-pound offensive tackle is a four-star recruit. Dunn is 247Sports’ No. 157 overall prospect, No. 16 offensive tackle and the No. 2 player in Utah for the 2025 class.

“Tall, athletic offensive tackle prospect with elite height and a lean build that wears existing mass well,” wrote 247Sports national scouting analyst Gabe Brooks in Dunn’s scouting report. “Possesses ample bulking capacity as desired. “Narrower through the torso, but long-armed to allow for high pass-pro upside. Shows relatively good knee-bending ability and generally does not get caught off balance. Plays pretty flat-backed in pass protection.

“Also has valuable part-time D-line snaps and a strong athletic profile, including 17.2 ppg as a junior on the basketball court. Still developing leverage consistency and adding mass, but a good functional athlete in this tackle class with some elite traits in certain categories and a strong athletic foundation. Projects to high-major college competition with the potential to become a desired NFL Draft candidate.”

Broncos sign offensive lineman after losing Quinn Bailey to season-ending IR

The Broncos signed offensive lineman Oliver Jervis on Thursday and placed Quinn Bailey on the season-ending injured reserve list.

The Denver Broncos signed 24-year-old offensive lineman Oliver Jervis on Thursday after losing lineman Quinn Bailey to a season-ending ankle injury.

Jervis (6-5, 305 pounds) is an undrafted rookie out of Colorado State. He spent the first five years of his college career at Monmouth University before transferring to CSU ahead of the 2023 season. Jervis started all 12 games at tackle for the Rams last fall, giving him 36 career starts at the college level. He was one of three linemen who worked out for the Broncos last week.

Bailey dislocated his right ankle and suffered a fractured fibula during Wednesday’s practice, coach Sean Payton announced. Bailey will undergo surgery next week after being placed on season-ending IR.

“There are two parts to the injury,” Payton said. “He dislocated his ankle and he fractured his fibula, the smaller bone a little further up. Next week — I don’t have the day yet, but he’ll have the ankle surgery and there’s probably a good chance they’ll just leave the fibula and let it heal, but they’ll look at that.

“The main injury is the ankle, so he’ll have that done next week. He was put on reserve injured and then we signed the young offensive lineman we had out in camp from Colorado State, Oliver.

Each team can designate up to two players to return from IR on roster cutdown day. Because Bailey was placed on IR at this point in the offseason, he won’t be eligible to return during the 2024 season.

Denver linebacker Drew Sanders (Achilles) could be a candidate to be placed on IR when the Broncos set their initial 53-man roster later this month (Aug. 27).

Former Sooners offensive lineman standing out at Dallas Cowboys training camp

Former Oklahoma Sooners offensive tackle a star of Dallas Cowboys training camp.

Fall camp is underway for the Oklahoma Sooners and NFL training camps are off and running as well. Games are 30 days away but it feels like football season is here.

There are a number of Sooners making their way through training camp for the first time. After being selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, offensive tackle [autotag]Tyler Guyton[/autotag] is off and running during his rookie year.

Between minicamps, OTA’s and Dallas Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, California, Guyton continued doing what he’s done since his arrival in Norman; put in the work.

Guyton shared with Patrik Walker, who covers the Dallas Cowboys for DallasCowboys.com, “Every day. Every day. I didn’t take a trip. I didn’t go on vacation. I stayed and worked with Duke every single day. For one, I got stronger. I toned up my body and also refined my technique within my set and my balance.”

In the early going, Guyton has been one of the stars of training camp with America’s Team. The work he’s put in has been evident. Guyton is being tested daily against one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, former Penn State Nittany Lions star Micah Parsons. Guyton is not only holding his own, but defeating the All-Pro edge in team drills.

Fellow DallasCowboys.com writer Nick Harris had this to say:

With the eyeballs glued to the action up front, Guyton turned in a strong day of work that featured multiple wins against Micah Parsons and second-round pick Marshawn Kneeland both in 11-on-11 action and one-on-one drills. The day remained consistent for the Oklahoma product as he walked off the field with a huge first day in pads. – Harris, DallasCowboys.com

It’s a great start to what will be a promising career for Guyton. He’s continued to develop from his time with the Sooners and is off to a fabulous start with the Dallas Cowboys.

Broncos OL Quinn Bailey fractures ankle, will have surgery

Broncos offensive lineman Quinn Bailey was carted off the practice field Wednesday with an apparent right leg injury.

Story update: After practice, Broncos coach Sean Payton announced that Quinn Bailey fractured his ankle. Bailey will undergo surgery. See our original post below.

Denver Broncos versatile backup offensive lineman Quinn Bailey was carted off the practice field during Wednesday’s training camp session.

Bailey went down during 9-on-7 drills with what appeared to be a “gruesome lower right leg injury,” according to the Denver Post‘s Parker Gabriel.

Bailey was carried onto a cart with a “heavy brace” on his right leg, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. He was then loaded into an ambulance, presumably to be taken to a local hospital.

Bailey, 28, originally joined the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State in 2019. He bounced between the practice squad and active roster from 2019-2022 before locking down a spot on the 53-man roster last summer.

Bailey is a versatile backup swing tackle/guard who dressed for all 17 games last fall. He served as an injury fill-in starter for one game in each of the last two seasons. Bailey was one of the favorites to serve as the team’s top backup swing tackle in 2024.

With Bailey sidelined, Denver’s remaining backup tackles include Alex Palczewski, Frank Crum, Matt Peart and Demontrey Jacobs.
