Ravens vs. Browns: 5 matchups to watch when Baltimore is on offense

We’re looking at five matchups to watch when the Baltimore Ravens are on offense against the Cleveland Browns defense in Week 10

The Ravens and Browns are headed for a heavyweight showdown featuring two of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL and the two best defensive units on the planet.

Cleveland edge rusher Myles Garrett has talked the talk this week, and a significant reason stems from a dominant defense that’s been outstanding outside of a few letdown performances.

The Browns rank first in yards allowed (234.8), the fewest given up in the league through nine weeks in 15 years. They’ll look to smother a Ravens offense that rushed for over 130 yards in the first meeting, with Lamar Jackson having one of his most efficient outings of the season.

With kickoff fast approaching, here are five matchups to watch when Baltimore is on offense.

Keaton Mitchell arrived on Sunday, as the undrafted rookie from ECU put the AFC on notice after rushing for 138 yards and his first NFL touchdown in a dominant 37-3 win over the Seahawks.

Odell Beckham Jr. scored his first touchdown since the Super Bowl two seasons ago and Baltimore sent a message, dismantling another first place team.

Gus Edwards logged two more rushing touchdowns for the Ravens (7-2), who remained tied for the best record in the AFC after holding an opponent to nine points or fewer for the fourth time this season.

Lamar Jackson threw for 187 yards and ran for 60 before exiting in fourth quarter.

With a crucial rematch against the Browns looming, here are takeaways and observations from the 37-3 win.

Ravens have 5 players fined a total of $103K for antics in win over Titans in London

The NFL levied out fines in excess of $103,014 ito five Baltimore #Ravens for different infractions in Sunday’s win over the Titans in London

The Ravens and Titans exited London, England with some newfound bad-blood and the discourse should rise to a new level after the NFL handed in excess of $103,000 in fines to five Baltimore players.

Odell Beckham Jr. and Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons had an altercation during the game and after the game over an alleged dirty tackle aimed at Ravens rookie Zay Flower’s lower leg area.

Beckham Jr. and Simmons waited for each other postgame to continue a back-and-forth that began during the game.

Odell Beckham Jr. on Jeffery Simmons fight: Titans DL wanted to ‘come up off’ my name

Ravens WR Odell Beckham Jr. thinks Titans DL Jeffery Simmons was trying to make a name for himself by getting into a fight.

After it came to light that Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons and Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. got into a postgame altercation following the Week 6 contest in London, Beckham touched on the subject on Wednesday.

It all started on a tackle attempt by Simmons on Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers, which Beckham thought was a dirty hit.

“I watched [Simmons] look at the play, then look at Zay’s legs and kind of dive on it,” Beckham said, per Ryan Mink and Clifton Brown of the team’s official site. “I just didn’t like that. I’m going to protect him. This is my guy. This is my little bro, love him to death. I’m going to always have his back, period. And if that leads me into trouble, it is what it is. I just didn’t like that.”

So, Beckham decided to knee Simmons after the play, which led to Big Jeff shoving Beckham, who put on an Oscar-worthy performance to draw a flag from officials. OBJ was not flagged for his knee, though.

What we didn’t see was the postgame activities that saw Simmons wait for Beckham and the two get into an altercation that was revealed by Ravens cornerback, Marlon Humphrey, on his “Punch Line” podcast.

“I turn around, [OBJ and Simmons] are genuinely like fighting. I am pretty sure Odell is grabbing his facemask,” Humphrey explained. “They had to be separated and everything. I don’t know how this has not [been reported]. I mean, [Simmons] is crazy. He wanted that fade from Odell.”

Beckham indicated he thinks Simmons, who signed a $94 million deal this past offseason and is considered one of the best players at his position in the NFL, was trying to make a name for himself with the fight.

“People understand that my name holds the weight,” he said, per ESPN’s Jamison Hensley. “They try and do things to come up off that. I got to the point where I realized that and you just can’t let people capitalize. There’s nothing really to talk about.”

After Beckham spoke to the media, Simmons called cap (lie) on social media and said “don’t believe the hype,” although it isn’t clear what exactly he was referring to, whether that was the fight itself, Beckham’s comments, or something else entirely.

Thankfully, Ravens players called for security to help break it up, otherwise it might have gone really badly for OBJ. I can assure him, Simmons wasn’t looking for more notoriety, he just wanted that smoke.

Ravens’ Odell Beckham, Titans’ Jeffery Simmons got into postgame altercation

Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey says WR Odell Beckham Jr. and Titans DL Jeffery Simmons got into a postgame altercation.

There has never been any shortage of bad blood between the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens throughout their storied rivalry, and that bad blood popped back up in Week 6, both during and after their game.

During the game, Ravens wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. didn’t take kindly to a tackle attempt by Titans defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons on Beckham’s teammate and fellow wide receiver, Zay Flowers.

That prompted Beckham to knee Simmons after the play, which led to Big Jeff retaliating by shoving Beckham to the ground, although there was some acting involved. Ultimately, Simmons was flagged but Beckham was not.

But the beef didn’t stop there.

Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey revealed on his “Punch Line” podcast that Simmons was waiting for OBJ after the game, leading to the two getting into an altercation that led to security being called.

It isn’t clear if punches were thrown, but Beckham at least got his hands on Simmons’ face mask, according to Humphrey, who explains what he saw in the clip below.

While Simmons’ frustration with Beckham’s cheap shot is understandable, he’s got to do a better job of keeping his cool. Drawing penalties and trying to fight opposing players after games is the exact definition of “dumb (stuff) that hurts the team,” as head coach Mike Vrabel would say.

Lamar Jackson gives Ravens’ pass catchers a vote of confidence ahead of matchup vs. Titans

Lamar Jackson gave a vote of confidence to Baltimore #Ravens wide receivers ahead of Sunday’s matchup vs. Titans

The Ravens suffered a miserable 17-10 loss to the Steelers in Week 5, and six drops by Baltimore receivers ruined a potential breakout performance for quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Jackson’s struggles against Pittsburgh continued as he completed 22 of 38 passes for 236 yards and rushed six times for 45 yards.

The Ravens’ star signal-caller could have had 300+ yards if not for two drops by rookie Zay Flowers, along with one drop apiece from Mark Andrews, Nelson Agholor, and Rashod Bateman.

On Wednesday in London, Jackson took steps to uplift his pass catchers, giving Ravens receivers a vote of confidence via Jamison Hensley of ESPN.

“I believe our guys are locked in right now,” Jackson said after Wednesday’s practice at the Tottenham Hotspur training ground. “They are going to be better. So will I.”

Baltimore’s five drops were the most in an NFL game since Week 13 of last season and the most by a Ravens team since 2021.

Jackson had decisive moments, but down the stretch, the quarterback had a pass picked off in the end zone with 4:10 remaining after the Ravens caused a Steelers turnover on special teams.

Baltimore had a 45-minute team meeting on Tuesday that focused on erasing the errors for a team that should be 5-0 on the season.
