If you turn on just about any NFL game, you will see a few Clemson players on the roster. From superstars to the practice squad, the Tigers have been pumping out NFL talent for years. But it’s hard to argue Clemson’s best performance in producing playmakers has been at wide receiver.

With the NFL season winding down, the Tigers have three former WRs with over 1,000 yards — Tee Higgins, Mike Williams, and of course Hunter Renfrow. And realistically, had Deandre Hopkins not been hurt, he probably would have joined them.

An impressive showing to say the least. Former Tigers Sammy Watkins, Adam Humphries, and Ray-Ray McCloud have been steady contributors to their teams all year as well. And rookie Amari Rodgers is starting to get more playing time up there in Green Bay. Next year, hopefully Justyn Ross will be adding to the Tigers’ NFL pass-catching club.

One thing is for sure, WRU is in good hands it seems.

Raiders, Patriots great DL Richard Seymour named finalist for Pro Football Hall of Fame

For the fourth time Richard Seymour is a finalist for the Hall of Fame

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced their list of Finalists for the class of 2022. Among them is former Raiders and Patriots defensive lineman Richard Seymour.

Another former Raiders player not making the cut from the list of semi-finalists was CB Eric Allen.

Seymour played the final four seasons of his 12 NFL seasons with the Raiders from 2009-12. Seymour went to two Pro Bowls in that time at the defensive tackle spot.

He had played his first eight NFL seasons with the Patriots where he went to five Pro Bowls, was named an All-Pro twice and won two Super Bowls as the Patriots’ 5-tech defensive end.

This is the fourth time Seymour has been a finalist. He is one of 15 finalists. Here are the other 14:

DE Jared Allen – 2004-07 Kansas City Chiefs, 2008-2013 Minnesota Vikings, 2014-15 Chicago Bears, 2015 Carolina Panthers
OT Willie Anderson – 1996-2007 Cincinnati Bengals, 2008 Baltimore Ravens
DB Ronde Barber – 1997-2012 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

WR Torry Holt – 1999-2008 St. Louis Rams, 2009 Jacksonville Jaguars
WR Andre Johnson – 2003-2014 Houston Texans, 2015 Indianapolis Colts, 2016 Tennessee Titans
LB Sam Mills – 1986-1994 New Orleans Saints, 1995-97 Carolina Panthers
LB Zach Thomas – 1996-2007 Miami Dolphins, 2008 Dallas Cowboys
EDGE DeMarcus Ware – 2005-2013 Dallas Cowboys, 2014-16 Denver Broncos
WR Reggie Wayne – 2001-2014 Indianapolis Colts
LB Patrick Willis – 2007-2014 San Francisco 49ers
DL Bryant Young – 1994-2007 San Francisco 49ers

The Selection Committee will choose up to five Modern-Era Players for the Class of 2022; each must receive a minimum positive vote of 80 percent for election. Three others — Dick Vermeil, Art McNally and Cliff Branch, the finalists in the Coach, Contributor and Senior categories, respectively — also are candidates for the Class of 2022.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2022 will be introduced during the broadcast of the NFL Honors show at 6 pm Pacific (9 pm ET) on Feb. 10, 2022.

Social media reacts to John Madden’s passing

NFL and broadcasting legend John Madden has died at the age of 85

Hall of Fame coach and broadcaster John Madden died at the age of 85 on Tuesday. “On behalf of the entire NFL family, we extend our condolences to Virginia, Mike, Joe and their families,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “We all know him as the Hall of Fame coach of the Oakland Raiders and broadcaster who worked for every major network, but more than anything, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

“Nobody loved football more than Coach.  He was football.  He was an incredible sounding board to me and so many others. There will never be another John Madden, and we will forever be indebted to him for all he did to make football and the NFL what it is today.”

In a 10-year stretch as head coach of the Raiders, Madden compiled a regular-season record of 103-32-7 (a .759 winning percentage) and a postseason record of 9-7.

There was an outpouring of reaction on social media.

With Pro Bowl rosters starting to leak out around the NFL, it seems one former Clemson Tiger who many thought would make it has fallen short this year — Hunter Renfrow, who leads the Raiders in most receiving categories. With 89 catches for 909 yards and five TDs, many thought Renfrow would make the cut.

“3rd and Renfrow” has become a popular saying amongst Raiders fans. The former Tiger wideout has become QB Derek Carr’s go-to receiver this season. His crisp route running has become so effective that teams are often doubling, and in some cases triple-covering him to try and force the ball away from him.

Renfrow has also been the team’s punt returner all season, and at one point, he made a hit-stick tackle on a fake punt that ended up going viral.

Despite his incredible season, Renfrow appears to have fallen short of the Pro Bowl this year. But if he continues playing the way he has been I’m sure he will end up on the roster before too long.

Christmas is right around the corner.  Once again Clemson Variety & Frame is ready to make it a special holiday for your favorite Tiger.

It wasn’t a great day for the Raiders, but it was a historic day for WRU member Hunter Renfrow.

Hunter Renfrow set a new career high today vs the Chiefs.  Renfrow caught 13 passes for 117 yards and one touchdown.

Renfrow’s effort did little to effect the outcome, as the Chiefs blew out Oakland 48-9. But it’s always good seeing WRU represent.

9 former Raiders among modern-era nominees for Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2022

9 former Raiders among modern-era nominees for Hall of Fame class of 2022

The list of modern-era nominees for the 2022 Hall of Fame class was released Wednesday. In total, there are 122 nominees. Of them are nine players who once suited up for the Raiders.

The nine Raiders legends are as follows: WR Andre Rison, G Steve Wisniewski, DT La’Roi Glover, DT Richard Seymour, DE Greg Townsend, DE Justin Tuck, DE Pat Swilling, CB Eric Allen, and CB Albert Lewis.

Richard Seymour was a finalist for the class of 2021. None are first-year eligible with all having been nominated several times before.

The list of Modern-Era nominees will be reduced to 25 Semifinalists in November and, from there, to 15 Finalists in January.

These modern-era finalists are in addition to Cliff Branch who is the lone finalist via the senior committee. Which almost always guarantees induction.

This year, Raiders greats Charles Woodson and Tom Flores both go the call. Woodson as a first-year eligible player and Flores via the senior committee.
