Marcus Davenport to wear No. 0 for Vikings

With the new rule change allowing players to wear more numbers, Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Marcus Davenport will wear the number 0.

Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Marcus Davenport has made team history.

According to the Vikings, Davenport will wear the number 0 this season, becoming the first player in team history to do so.

Before this season, players could not wear the number 0, but a recent rule change announced at the NFL Annual Meeting allowed certain players to wear the number 0. This rule follows a recent change in college football, where players have been allowed to wear the number since 2020.

The new rules state that any player who is not an offensive or defensive lineman can wear the number. Davenport is listed as an outside linebacker on the team’s roster.

Davenport signed with the Vikings via free agency after playing his first five seasons with the New Orleans Saints. In 63 career NFL games, the former first-round draft pick has 21.5 sacks and seven forced fumbles.

Davenport wore the number 92 with the Saints and 93 in college with UTSA.
