Notre Dame lacrosse lands highly touted recruit

Notre Dame lacrosse lands a four-star goalie with skills and size.

Kieran Walsh has committed to Notre Dame.

The four-star recruit is ranked 32nd among goalies for the class of 2026. The 6-foot, 4-inch Walsh weighs 185 pounds and is right-handed.

Walsh will be joining the Fighting Irish out of Chaminade High School in New York after considering Cornell, Georgetown, North Carolina, Virgina and Penn.

He posted an 11-4 record and 94.31 rating in the 2024 season.

He also played for Team Long Island and Inside Lacrosse had this to say about Walsh’s play: “You notice the size (6-foot-4) right away, and that feels like it was imposing for opposing shooters. But there’s a calm there in the way he saves, the clean stickwork and the ability to find a smooth pass and move out of the cage. He just oozes high-level ability.”

And this: “A 6-foot-4 righty who plays for Chaminade and wears No. 44, it’s impossible to ignore the Liam Entenmann vibes he gives off.”

Notre Dame visits White House with other national champions

Well, this sure was interesting timing.

For two straight years now, Notre Dame’s men’s lacrosse team has reigned atop the college world. Having won its second consecutive national championship, the team was invited to the White House along with other national champions from all over the country. The day finally has arrived, and this fantastic image on the South Lawn should warm Irish fans all over social media:

That not enough for you? Don’t worry. Those aren’t the only photos that were tweeted out:

And if you want to go a little further back, here’s the team at dinner the night before:

Vice President Kamala Harris hosted the event, and the fact that the Irish were in her presence and at the location they were at less than 24 hours after a major related news event is absolutely wild. This will be a story the players tell their kids and grandkids. They would have told them about visiting the White House anyway, but the timing of it all takes this to another level.

Notre Dame men’s athletics win third Capital One Cup

Congrats, Notre Dame!

The Capital One Cup demonstrates greatness of a university’s athletic department. Each year, it is given out on both the men’s and women’s side. Notre Dame has captured the men’s award for the second time in three years and third time overall. Former lacrosse player [autotag]Pat Kavanaugh[/autotag] was on hand at this year’s ESPYS to acknowledge the victory:

At 103 points, Notre Dame finished well ahead of second-place Michigan (90 points) in the men’s standings. The national-championship lacrosse team got the most points with 60. The soccer team, the College Cup runner-up, earned 30 points, and the fencing team, another national-championship runner-up, got six points. Rounding out the scoring was the swimming and diving team, which earned a single point for playing 10th at the national meet.

This should serve as a reminder that although football is Notre Dame’s biggest sport by far, the university strives for athletic success across the board. Congratulations to the programs that made this honor possible.

Three Notre Dame lacrosse players make Lacrosse Network’s Dream Team

Congrats to the trio of Irish recipients

Fresh off defending its National Championship, Notre Dame lacrosse players were bound for more recognition.

That’s exactly what happened on Thursday afternoon, as The Lacrosse Network announced its inaugural Dream Team. Three Notre Dame players made the list: goalie [autotag]Liam Entenmann[/autotag], midfielder [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag] and attacker [autotag]Pat Kavanagh[/autotag].

It should come as no surprise that the three were honored, as they led the Irish’s charge all year long. Kavanagh’s list of accolades just increased, as he was already the ACC Offensive Player of the Year, a first-team All-American, won the programs first Tewaaraton Award while setting the Notre Dame career points and assists records.

Congrats to the three Irish stars on a massively successful season.

Watch: Notre Dame’s Tyler Buchner was a playmaker wide receiver in high school

Tyler Buchner is set to re-join Notre Dame as a wide receiver.

Tyler Buchner is returning to Notre Dame football. But the former quarterback won’t be under center.

Instead, Buchner is set to rejoin the Fighting Irish as a wide receiver.

Buchner was the starting quarterback at Notre Dame for the first part of the 2022 season. He then entered the transfer portal and joined Alabama but only played in two games and threw just 19 passes.

He returned to Notre Dame this spring but not to play football. Rather, Buchner joined the men’s lacrosse team and made 10 appearances this spring.

Notre Dame beat Maryland on Monday to win the national championship.

Coming out of high school, Buchner was a four-star quarterback prospect at Helix High School (La Jolla, California).

But before that, he was a wide receiver who showed plenty of promise as a freshman:

In high school, ESPN ranked Buchner as the No. 41 prospect in the class of 2021 and the eighth-best quarterback.

Former Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner to walk on as receiver

Welcome back, Tyler!

[autotag]Tyler Buchner[/autotag] has to have had one of the most unique paths in all of college football lately. After two years of quarterbacking at Notre Dame, he transferred to Alabama for the 2023 season but didn’t win the starting job. He then transferred back to Notre Dame and won a national championship with the men’s lacrosse team. Now, he’s coming back to the Irish football team as a walk-on receiver.

Here’s the official announcement by the Irish:

Although Buchner is walking on, he’ll count towards the football program’s 85-scholarship limit if he appears in a game. That will be an interesting decision for the Irish since he has not caught any passes during his time in college football, of which he has two years of eligibility remaining. So it stands to reason he’ll be starting from scratch with the Irish.

Until we find out exactly how his second Irish tenure will go, here are some images from his first time with the program:

Photos of Notre Dame lacrosse’s national semifinal victory over Denver

Will you be watching the national championship?

For the second straight season, Notre Dame’s men’s lacrosse team will play for a national championship. The Irish defeated Denver, 13-6, in Saturday’s national semifinal match in Philadelphia. A win over Maryland on Memorial Day would give the Irish their second straight national title. This will be the Irish’s fourth time overall playing for the national championship.

While Notre Dame has some quality athletic programs right now, men’s lacrosse is right at the top. Only the fencing team has come closer to winning a national championship this year, and the men’s lacrosse team is attempting to defend what it already has.

It’s a shame the men’s lacrosse team doesn’t get more attention, and we certainly haven’t been blameless in this equation at times. But we recognize how important it is to acknowledge when any Notre Dame athletic program is on the cusp of greatness, and this is one of those times.

Here are photos from the Irish’s semifinal win:

The Irish have arrived to defend their title

The continued success for the Notre Dame lacrosse team is set to continue this Saturday as they face off against Denver for a spot in the National Title game.

The business trip for the Irish is about to get started, as they have already landed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to prepare to win a championship. Led by the Kavanagh brothers, Chris and Pat, along with goalie Liam Entenmann, Notre Dame is currently on a 12-game win streak.

They will look to defend their title, as the Irish defeated Duke last year to host the trophy. You can see Notre Dame as they arrive in Philly here.

If Notre Dame once again prevails, they would face either Maryland or Virginia in the title game held on Sunday.

Watch: Notre Dame lacrosse makes ESPN’s SportsCenter No. 1 play

What a save!

It’s been a great start to Notre Dame lacrosse’s year, as they are the current No. 1 ranked program and backed that up with a win over No. 3 Syracuse on Saturday, 14-12.

The win improves the Irish’s record to 6-1 on the year, 1-0 in ACC play and keeps the winning streak going which now stands at 4 games in-a-row. Three Notre Dame players scored two goals, Jake Taylor, Pat Kavanagh and Eric Dobson.

It wasn’t what the Irish did on offense that stood out, but instead the play of goalie [autotag]Liam Entenmann[/autotag]. His save in the 4th quarter was a thing of beauty, and it was good enough to top the charts on SportsCenter Top Plays.

The effort was amazing and Entenmann deserved the recognition.
