Notre Dame baseball bashes its way to a series sweep of Tennessee Tech

The Irish bats were hot all weekend in the series sweep

On Sunday afternoon, it looked like Notre Dame baseball would return with a series victory against Tennessee Tech, but its bats woke up late on Sunday and they bashed their way to a sweep.

The Irish bats were hot all weekend, as they scored 14-runs on Friday, 15-runs on Saturday and 14-runs during the finale. In the series opener, they didn’t need the extra cushion, but certainly did the final two games as the pitching allowed 11-runs in each of those games.

With the three-game sweep, Notre Dame moves to an 8-2 record, with its first home game of the year set for Tuesday against Purdue at 4:30 p.m. EST.

Notre Dame bashed 15 homers during the series, most in Division 1 over the weekend, and the 43-runs were the most ever in a 3-games series against the same opponent.

Notre Dame baseball announces starting pitchers for series vs. Tennessee Tech

The Irish know a portion of its rotation for this weekend

Notre Dame baseball enters its weekend series against Tennessee Tech with a solid 5-2 record to start the season.

Their road portion of the early schedule has been solid, but it will end on March 5th as they host Purdue in the Irish’s first home game of the year. They’ll need to take care of business this weekend to return home with a winning record, and a portion of the starting rotation has been set.

The Irish will send Matt Bedford to the bump on Friday afternoon, while Jackson Dennies gets the start on Saturday. The question is Sunday, as the starter is currently TBA.

Last weekend, Notre Dame used Bedford as its game 3 starter, but with Cade Spivey getting the series started. Clearly head coach Shawn Stiffler wanted to switch things up, and we will see if it pays off.

Notre Dame baseball wins finale, split series with Florida International

A solid weekend for the Irish baseball team

Although Notre Dame baseball dropped both games on Saturday, they still had a change to return to South Bend with a split series against host Florida Atlantic.

That’s exactly what happened, as the Irish took the finale 3-1 behind a bullpen day of great pitching. Torey McDonough started the game with 2 innings, followed by Jack Radel with three innings and Rickey Reeth with 2.2 of shutout baseball. Bennett Flynn earned the save while giving up the only run of the game.

Offensively, Notre Dame was led by right fielder Tito Flores, who drove in two, and left fielder David Glancy who knocked in the other run with a solo homer, his fourth of the young season.

The win propels the Irish’s record to 5-2 as they get a couple days of rest before taking on Tennessee Tech in a three game series starting on March 1st.

Notre Dame baseball’s winning streak ends, Irish fall twice to FIU

Not the best double-dip on Saturday for the Irish

Notre Dame baseball got off to a hot start through its first four games, winning every single contest.

Saturday was a different story, as a double-header doomed the Golden Domers. The first game saw the Irish storm back to take the lead in the top of the seventh, only to see Florida International tie the game in the bottom of the inning and take the lead for good in the eight. The final score of game one was 10-8.

Game two was much of the same story, as the Irish had to battle back down 5-0. They got as close as 5-4, but a three-run seventh and a two-run eighth by FIU pushed them through for a 10-5 final.

The first two losses of the season for Notre Dame put its record at 4-2 early in the year. The series finale is set for Sunday at Noon EST and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Notre Dame baseball begins season today, announces starting rotation

The Irish open up their season today in Texas

Year two of the Shawn Stiffler era of Notre Dame baseball is set to begin on Friday evening as they will travel to Houston, Texas to take on the Rice Owls.

Stiffler’s first season saw the Irish struggle compared to recent years, as they failed to make the NCAA Tournament and finished with a 30-24 record. The hope is that the tide will turn during this season.

Like many baseball teams do, they will rely on their starting rotation to lead the way and Notre Dame announced its three starters for the series against the Owls.

Caden Spivey will get the start on Friday, followed by Jackson Dennies going on Saturday and Matt Bedford in the finale on Sunday.

Dennies is the veteran of the group, as he started 13 games last season. Spivey made 15 appearances, with just one start while Bedford had two starts in 14 appearances. Hopefully, one of the three, or all of them, emerges as an ace for the Irish.

The Irish will once again look great on the diamond

Although last seasons Notre Dame baseball record wasn’t pretty, they sure looked good on the field.

They will once again look great, as the Irish baseball social media account released the uniforms that they will be wearing this coming season. The first games will be played this weekend, with Notre Dame traveling to Houston, Texas to face the Rice Owls to open the year.

As is typical for Midwest baseball teams, the majority of the early season will be on the road, as weather plays a big part in the scheduling. Regardless, Notre Dame will don some great uniform combinations. Take a look below for yourself.

The Irish have a ton of talent on the way

It wasn’t the best transition for Notre Dame baseball from Link Jarrett to Shawn Stiffler, but the future is bring for the Irish.

A .500 record in the ACC and a 30-24 overall record was a far cry from the previous season, but the base for success under Stiffler was made. Part of that success is recruiting and the Irish have multiple commits that are high-end players.

Some of them were invited to participate in the Super60 Pro Showcase, one of the best preseason baseball events with multiple professional area scouts in attendance. The future Notre Dame stars that were invited didn’t disappoint and below you can see some of the highlights shared on social media of their performances.

Former Notre Dame baseball star will now manage the Chicago Cubs

Congrats Craig!

In a whirlwind of events, former [autotag]Notre Dame baseball[/autotag] and MLB player [autotag]Craig Counsell[/autotag], will move away from the [autotag]Milwaukee Brewers[/autotag] and travel down I-94 south to take over the managerial duties for the [autotag]Chicago Cubs[/autotag].

The rumors first started on Monday morning, as there were reports and teams were looking to poach Counsell from the Brewers. Not many expected the Cubs to be the main suitor, but the move was made and it has been verified by the ball club.

During his Irish playing career, he was a career. .306 hitter, walking twice as many times as he struck out, which led the Colorado Rockies to draft him in the 11th round of the 1992 MLB draft.

Counsell would score the winning run for the Florida Marlins in the 1997 World Series, which was the highlight of his playing career. He would then immediately move into coaching inside the Brewers organization when Counsell retired in 2012.

Three years later, in 2015, he was named their manager, guiding them to a 707-625 record during his tenure. Counsell now takes over a Cubs team that barely missed the playoffs this past season, but has deep pockets and could field a better team than their division rivals.

Notre Dame baseball has multiple players enter the transfer portal

The Irish see more than a few players enter the portal

After a disappointing 2023 [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] baseball season, the Irish are seeing multiple players enter the transfer portal as the NCAA Tournament is set to start later in the week.

After two consecutive seasons making the tournament, last year making the College World Series, head coach Link Jarrett left for his alma mater, Florida State. [autotag]Shawn Stiffler[/autotag] was brought in to replace Jarrett and guided his team to a 30-24 overall record while being 15-15 in ACC play.

It wasn’t enough to make the tourney and just today, multiple players have entered the transfer portal. Find out below which Notre Dame baseball players will move on.

With spring practice fast approaching and baseball in full swing, Bowen has a lot on his plate at the moment. Not only does he have to practice for both the school aspect is thrown into the mix.

There have been plenty of successful athletes in South Bend play both and it would be great to see Bowen succeed in the diamond and the gridiron. Check out below as he explains how he juggles his schedule right now.
