Notre Dame’s Carson Tinney caps big weekend with grand slam

What a weekend for him.

It’s not often that a baseball player has two home runs in one weekend that often are sought but rarely achieved. However, [autotag]Carson Tinney[/autotag] of Notre Dame now can make that claim forevermore. He began the Irish’s three-game weekend series vs. Boston College with a pinch-hit inside-the-park-home run.

If Tinney enjoyed his inside-the-parker, he had to enjoy what came two days later. With the Irish en route to their first no-hitter since 1988, Tinney contributed to the offensive cause with a four-bagger:

It’s heartwarming to see Tinney’s teammates emerge to celebrate his big moment with him. He isn’t one of the big bats on the team, but he sure fit the part during the Irish’s sweep of the Eagles. He was 3 of 4 with two homers and five RBIs. That gave him an otherworldly slugging percentage of 2.750.

When Tinney looks back on his career, he can say that for one weekend, he could hit dingers like the best of them.

Fighting Irish Wire makes Notre Dame Stadium debut at Blue Gold Game

Major stepping stone for our site.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. ā€“ The first Notre Dame event Fighting Irish Wire covered on location was the final edition of the Crossroads Classic. That was in late 2021. Since then, we have covered many Irish men’s and women’s basketball games at Purcell Pavilion and elsewhere. We also traveled to Boston a year ago when the baseball team played at Fenway Park.

However, we never have had media access to any football events, let alone one at Notre Dame Stadium. That changes today with the annual Blue Gold Game to wrap up spring practices. Yes, you read that correctly. Fighting Irish Wire is covering its first event inside the House That Rockne Built.

As of this writing, we aren’t entirely sure what we’ll be writing about today. What we are sure of is we’re excited to be here, and we hope this will serve as a dress rehearsal to covering at least some regular-season games here this fall. We appreciate your support on this big day for our site.

Notre Dame baseball slams its way to a mid-week road win

Notre Dame gets the week off on the right foot with two road victories, the second a comeback aided by a grand slam

It didnā€™t look good for Notre Dame baseball though seven innings, as the Irish were trailing Radford 6-4 heading into the top of the 8th.

Notre Dame exploded for 7-runs, which finished off the scoring for the day, giving the Irish an 11-6 victory and improving its early season record to 11-5.

Third baseman Simon Baumgardt was the star for Notre Dame, as he when 2-for-4 with a grand slam in the 8th to help open up the Irish lead. Center fielder TJ Williams also homered in the contest, while designated hitter David Glancy had two hits to help the Irishā€™s cause.

On the mound, Jackson Dennies started the game, but only went an inning, as the majority of pitchers went a max of two frames.

Notre Dame finished the short 2-games series with a sweep, defeating Radford on Tuesday 10-3 in a much more comfortable game.

The Irish return to the diamond on Friday, as they face ACC foe Florida State in Tallahassee for a 3-game series.

Notre Dame baseballā€™s ACC woes continue, gets swept by Clemson

Not the best weekend for the Irish on the diamond

It hasnā€™t been easy for Notre Dame baseball this season against fellow ACC opponents, as a loss at home to Clemson continued its struggles.

The Irish came into the series on a 4-game losing streak and the number was pushed to 7 after Sundayā€™s comeback fell short in extra innings. The loss drops Notre Dameā€™s record to 14-15, just 2-13 in conference play.

Clemson took a commanding 11-1 lead after the top of the six inning, then the Irish bats woke up. Notre Dame scored 10 runs, 4 in the 8th and 5 in the 9th to force the game into extra innings. Unfortunately their hot bats didnā€™t continue, as the Tigers scored two in the top of the 11th to the Irishā€™s one.

Notre Dame will return to the diamond on Wednesday to host Butler before heading on the road to face North Carolina over the weekend.

The weather has impacted Notre Dame baseballā€™s midweek game vs. Michigan state

The Irish wonā€™t see the diamond on Tuesday

Notre Dameā€™s baseball team will have to wait until this weekend to stop its current 3-game losing streak as its midweek game against Michigan State has been postponed due to weather.

The rain has been pouring in the Midwest, so this isnā€™t a surprise as all you needed to do was look outside and know that baseball most likely wouldnā€™t be able to be played.

The Irish currently sit with a 14-12 record, and 2-10 in ACC play. They will return to the field this weekend as they host Clemson in a conference series. Obviously weather permitting for the series against the Tigers.

The Michigan State game could get played, although at this time it is unknown when the make-up day will be.

MSU baseball game at Notre Dame postponed

MSU v. Notre Dame on Tuesday has been PPD

Michigan State was set to travel to South Bend, Indiana, on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup with Notre Dame. Unfortunately, due to weather, that matchup will not be happening and has been postponed.

The Spartans were looking to build upon a series win over Rutgers this past weekend, and are on the quest to improve their 12-14 record above .500.

Notre Dame baseball loses late to host NC State

The Irish look to salvage the series on Saturday

The weekend series has not gone like Notre Dame baseball had planned, as the series wraps up against NC State as the Irish look to salvage one game from the series.

On Thursday night, Notre Dame was blown out, 10-0 as the game was cut short in the 8th inning due to the run rule. The Irish looked to bounce back on Friday night, but failed to do so, falling 7-6 as their comeback bid fell short.

Notre Dame led 3-1 after four innings only to see the Wolfpack score 4 runs in the 6th and a single run in the seventh. The Irish would respond with three to tie the game at 6, but the home team had some magic in the bottom of the ninth and won the contest.

The loss puts Notre Dame season record at 14-11, a dismal 2-9 in ACC play. The series concludes on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. EST.

Notre Dame baseball drops finale, still takes series against Miami

The Irish lose Sunday, but still take the series

It was a great weekend for Notre Dame baseball, as they got its first ACC win and along with that its first ACC series as well.

Friday and Saturday went according to plan for the Irish, winning each of those contests heading into Sundayā€™s finale. The back-and-forth contest against host Miami looked like it was going to go Notre Dameā€™s way, as they led 7-1 after 4 innings.

The Hurricaneā€™s stormed back with an 8-run top of the fifth, which seemingly gave them a cushion to win the game. Instead, the Irish fought back, tying the game in the bottom of the ninth, 10-10.

The extra inning saw Miami plate two runs, and then shut out the Irish in the bottom to secure the win.

Although Notre Dame did drop the finale, they won the series and improved its season record to 14-9, 2-7 in the ACC. They return to the diamond on Tuesday as they host Bowling Green before going on the road to take on NC State this weekend.

Notre Dame baseball takes series from Miami, will go for sweep tomorrow

The Irish already have taken the series and look to bring out the broom on Sunday

Although it took seven games for Notre Dame baseball to get its first ACC conference win, it didnā€™t take long for the Irish to get their second one.

Friday night, they defeated Miami 6-2 and on Saturday they once again won a lower scoring game, 5-2. Notre Dame used a 3-run bottom of the 4th to take the lead for good, after it was tied at one following the first inning.

One the day, the Irish used just two pitchers, Jack Radel and Ricky Reeth, as they shut down the Hurricane offense. They each allowed a run, but limited the damage in the victory. The win gives Notre Dame a 14-8 record, 2-6 in ACC play.

The Irish look to complete a sweep in Miami on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled at 1 p.m. EST.

Notre Dame baseball has rough weekend against former head coach, FSU

The Irish want a redo against Jarrett

It wasnā€™t the weekend the Notre Dame baseball wanted to have as they faced off at Florida State against its former head coach Link Jarrett.

The Irish got swept, losing each game of the series. Friday night was the least competitive game of the weekend, as Notre Dame dropped the contest 8-4. Saturday was much closer, but still a loss at 4-2, while Sunday hurt the most as the Irish held a close lead but lost it take falling 4-3.

The losses werenā€™t just significant due to Jarrett being in the other dugout, it was the fact that Notre Dame has now started the ACC portion of its schedule at 0-6, 11-8 overall.

The Irish get the chance to right the ship on Tuesday as they host Western Michigan at 4:30 p.m. EST.
