Northeastern at West Virginia: Three things to know
- This contest is a COVID-19-necessitated addition to the slate for Northeastern and West Virginia. WVU was scheduled to host Buffalo, but the Bulls canceled because of COVID-19 issues. The Mountaineers and Huskies have met just once before when Northeastern defeated West Virginia 91-84 in Morgantown in 2003.
- The Mountaineers are coming off a 79-65 loss at Kansas (Dec. 22). West Virginia was undone by the Jayhawks draining 16 3-pointers in that contest. Prior to Kansas shooting 43.4% from beyond the arc, WVU had been holding foes to a 27.2% mark.
- The Huskies are playing their fourth consecutive road game. Through four road tilts this season, Northeastern is 0-4 straight up and 2-2 against the spread.

STEER CLEAR of what is a juice-filled proposition for this one.
Against the spread (ATS)
The Mountaineers are 1-4 ATS in their last five games. They play at Oklahoma in a key Big 12 game Saturday and could be caught looking ahead in a sleepy Tuesday afternoon nonconference tilt.
A couple of runs on triples (which account for a sizeable chunk of Northeastern’s offense) can help keep the Huskies near a 10-point deficit until they run out of gas.
BACK NORTHEASTERN +18.5 (-110).
Over/Under (O/U)
Even if not looking ahead per se, West Virginia may well want to compress the second half of this game, move on with any sort of double-digit win and be content with slower-tempo ball with fewer free-throw attempts. The slower tempo is where the Huskies live.
The Under is 13-5 in WVU’s last 18 games as a favorite, 5-2 in NU’s last seven games overall and 9-3 in NU’s last 12 games as an underdog.
TAKE THE UNDER 136.5 (-110) in what marks the strongest play in this contest.
