Former Alabama safety Nick Perry to join Seattle Seahawks as member of defensive coaching staff

Former Alabama safety Nick Perry will be joining the Seattle Seahawks coaching staff as a defensive assistant. Perry previously coached for the Atlanta Falcons.

Former Alabama safety Nick Perry began his NFL career as a player before ultimately deciding to go down the coaching route. According to Matt Zenitz, Perry appears to be headed to Seattle to become a member of the Seahawks defensive coaching staff.

Perry spent the first two seasons of his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Alabama. Following the 2017 season, he became a defensive analyst.

After two seasons as a defensive analyst, Perry joined the Atlanta Falcons as an assistant defensive backs coach. He became an assistant wide receivers coach for the 2023 season.

Now, all signs point toward Perry joining Mike Macdonald’s coaching staff in the Pacific Northwest. He will not be the only member of the Seahawks coaching staff with ties to Alabama. The Seahawks recently hired former Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and offensive line coach Scott Huff.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest regarding the Alabama football program and its former players in the NFL.

Falcons add two more defensive assistants to coaching staff

The Atlanta Falcons officially added three more assistant coaches to Arthur Smith’s staff on Saturday morning.

The Atlanta Falcons officially added three more assistant coaches to Arthur Smith’s staff on Saturday morning. First, former NFL quarterback T.J. Yates was named as the passing game specialist and then minutes later, the team announced the hiring of two new defensive coaches.

Lanier Goethie, the former linebackers coach and defensive assistant at Duke, and Nick Perry, a former graduate assistant at Alabama, will join the Falcons as defensive assistants.

Goethie coached at Louisiana Tech prior to joining the Duke coaching staff. Here’s an excerpt from his Duke coaching profile:

Goethie, who lettered four seasons as a linebacker at Ole Miss under David Cutcliffe, joined the Blue Devils after spending the previous two seasons at Louisiana Tech.  With the Bulldogs, he coached the linebackers and helped Louisiana Tech to a two-year ledger of 16-11, an appearance in the 2016 Conference USA championship game.

Perry played for Alabama from 2011-2014, starting as a safety in 2014. He won two National Championships as a player but couldn’t catch on in the NFL despite getting looks from the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles.

In 2017, Perry returned to Alabama as a graduate assistant where he worked for the past three seasons under head coach Nick Saban.
