Nets assign trio to Long Island

Dzanan Musa, Nic Claxton and Theo Pinson have been assigned to Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets.

The Brooklyn Nets assigned three players to the G League on Monday: Nic Claxton, Dzanan Musa and Theo Pinson.

Claxton was with Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, on Saturday. In Long Island’s 119-109 win over the Greensboro Swarm, the Charlotte Hornets’ G League affiliate, Claxton logged his first double-double as a pro. In his 22 minutes of action, the Nets rookie score 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting (2-for-2 from 3-point territory) and corralled 10 rebounds. Claxton also blocked a shot and had one steal, as well.

Though both Musa and Pinson have been on assignment with Long Island at some point this season, both have yet to play in a game for Long Island in 2019-20, after appearing in 36 and 35 contests, respectively, last season.

Long Island is back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they play host to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the Indiana Pacers’ G League affiliate. The game can be seen on ESPN+.

Nic Claxton recalled from Long Island ahead of matchup with Hawks

After spending Saturday with the Long Island Nets for a G League tilt, Nic Claxton is back in Brooklyn for Sunday’s game.

Ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Atlanta Hawks at Barclays Center, the Brooklyn Nets have recalled rookie forward Nic Claxton from their G League team, the Long Island Nets.

Claxton was with Long Island on Saturday for a road game against the Greensboro Swarm, the Charlotte Hornets’ G League affiliate. Long Island won the game 119-109.

The rookie forward played a significant part in the double-digit victory. Claxton scored 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting (2-for-2 from 3-point territory) while going 2-for-4 at the free-throw line in his 22 minutes of action. He also grabbed 10 rebounds in his double-double effort, blocked a shot and had one steal.

Claxton also had the chance to play alongside Nets two-way player Chris Chiozza for the first time. Brooklyn inked a deal with the guard back on January 4.

Against the Swarm, Chiozza had nine rebounds and six assists. He scored eight points on 3-for-13 shooting (1-for-7 from deep).

Nets assign Nic Claxton to Long Island

Brooklyn Nets rookie Nic Claxton will finally get a chance to log some more minutes while he’s with Long Island.

Nic Claxton made his return for the Brooklyn Nets on Monday. He had missed nearly a month due to left hamstring soreness — an injury the Nets rookie suffered in his only appearance with Brooklyn’s G League team, the Long Island Nets.

Even though he is available again, that does not mean Claxton is logging significant minutes for Brooklyn. This is usually the case when both DeAndre Jordan and Jarrett Allen are healthy. The rookie has only seen 1:31 of garbage time between the two games since he was cleared to play.

All of this led to Brooklyn’s decision on Friday. The team has assigned Claxton to Long Island.

In his six minutes of action with Long Island this season, Claxton scored four points on 2-for-5 shooting (0-1 from 3-point territory).

Brooklyn is back in action on Friday, while Long Island’s next game is on Saturday in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Nic Claxton cleared to play against Magic

Nic Claxton will finally be available for Kenny Atkinson and the Brooklyn Nets again. He’s been out since early December.

Two days after Caris LeVert was able to make his return to game action, Nic Claxton is set to do the same in Brooklyn’s matchup against the Orlando Magic on Monday.

The Nets rookie has been out since he injured his left hamstring on December 9 while on assignment with the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate. Since then, he’s been dealing with what the team diagnosed as left hamstring soreness.

In addition to Claxton, DeAndre Jordan will be available for Kenny Atkinson. The veteran big man had been downgraded to probable due to a right knee contusion, but he has been cleared and will be available on Monday.

Kyrie Irving (right shoulder impingement) remains sidelined. LeVert will be unavailable on Monday, as well, due to injury management of his surgically repaired right thumb. However, LeVert is expected to play for the Nets on the second day of their back-to-back, when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Jared Dudley praises Nets’ training staff as team battles injury bug

Ex-Nets forward Jared Dudley came to the defense of his Brooklyn’s training staff as they’ve dealt with a plethora of injuries in 2019-20.

While the Golden State Warriors have had their record impacted most by the injury bug this season, no team has had as many players battle ailments at the same rate as the Brooklyn Nets in 2019-20. Kevin Durant was out of the franchise’s hands, but it doesn’t appear Kyrie Irving (right shoulder impingement) is coming back soon, Caris LeVert (right thumb surgery) was out for over a month and a half before he made his return on Saturday, Nic Claxton (left hamstring soreness) has missed a considerable amount of time, and David Nwaba had his unfortunate season-ending Achilles injury.

Then players like DeAndre Jordan and Garrett Temple have dealt with brief day-to-day injuries. But, when combined with the list of major injuries, even the day-to-day issues seem like a lot.

Needless to say, Brooklyn’s training staff has been put to the test since the start of the 2019-20 season.

But after the team announced Caris LeVert would miss Monday’s game against the Magic, some expressed their frustration with the team’s training staff. One player was quick to come to their defense.

Ex-Nets forward Jared Dudley:

When asked what separates the Nets’ training staff from the others he’s dealt with, Dudley doubled down on the weekly assessments:

Caris LeVert out vs. Magic, Nic Claxton upgraded to probable

Caris LeVert is back on the Brooklyn Nets’ injury report, as is DeAndre Jordan.

After making his long-awaited return from thumb surgery, Caris LeVert will be unavailable for the Brooklyn Nets on Monday against the Orlando Magic.

The Nets have ruled LeVert out due to injury management of his right thumb.

In addition to LeVert, DeAndre Jordan was added to the team’s injury report. He’s dealing with a right knee contusion but is still probable to play.

Along with Kyrie Irving (right shoulder impingement) and Kevin Durant (right Achilles rehab), the Nets’ newly acquired guard, Chris Chiozza, will not be available for Brooklyn on Monday.

Nic Claxton (left hamstring soreness) is still on the injury report, but he’s the only Nets player to receive a status upgrade. The team has deemed him probable for Monday’s game. The Nets rookie has been out since early December.

Lastly, with regard to LeVert, the shooting guard is expected to play on Tuesday in the second half of Brooklyn’s back-to-back, per Malika Andrews of ESPN.

Caris LeVert, Garrett Temple probable vs. Raptors

Caris LeVert is likely to make his return for the Nets on Saturday after his long layoff, which due to a thumb injury and ensuing surgery.

Caris LeVert has not played in a game for the Brooklyn Nets since November 10. The shooting guard has only made nine appearances this year because he needed surgery on his right thumb after he suffered ligament damage.

It appears LeVert’s extended layoff may finally come to an end on Saturday when the Nets welcome the Toronto Raptors to Barclays Center.

On Friday, the Nets listed LeVert as probable for Saturday’s contest.

In his nine 2019-20 games, LeVert averaged 16.8 points per game on 42.1% shooting (36.1% from 3-point territory). He also logged four assists and five rebounds per game.

Additionally, the Nets should have Garrett Temple back in the mix on Saturday. He missed Thursday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks due to a right knee contusion. Temple is also listed as probable for Saturday.

The Nets will still be without Kyrie Irving (right shoulder impingement) and Nic Claxton (left hamstring soreness). Brooklyn has not shared a timetable for the return of either player.

Report: Nic Claxton should return in 1-2 weeks

Nic Claxton hasn’t been out as long as Kyrie Irving or Caris LeVert, but it’s been a while since the rookie took the floor for the Nets.

Much like Caris LeVert (right thumb surgery) and Kyrie Irving (right shoulder impingement), the Brooklyn Nets have not established a timetable for Nic Claxton’s return publicly.

The rookie has been sidelined due to left hamstring soreness, which he suffered back on December 9 while on assignment with the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate.

Hamstrings can be tricky, but a month is still a lengthy layoff for soreness — especially with no timetable attached to the injury.

Though it appears Alex Schiffer of The Athletic has been given an estimated timetable for Claxton’s return to game action. On Monday, Schiffer reported the following:

As for Nic Claxton, a source tells me his hamstring soreness isn’t serious. Just something that’s been lingering for a while and the Nets want to get back to 100 percent because there’s no urgency for him to get back. He should be back in a week or two I’m told.

Nets will face Timberwolves without Caris LeVert

Caris LeVert is close to returning, but Monday will not be the day Brooklyn Nets fans get to see the guard back on the floor.

Unlike Kyrie Irving (right shoulder impingement), Caris LeVert (right thumb surgery) is with the Brooklyn Nets for the team’s ongoing three-game road trip. Given he participated in contact portions of practice leading up to Christmas and he is on the trip, it seems LeVert’s return to game action is on the horizon.

However, Monday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves will not be the day the Nets get their starting shooting guard back. LeVert had been ruled out for the second game of the three-game road trip.

In addition to LeVert and Irving, Nic Claxton (left hamstring soreness) remains unavailable for the Nets. Like the two guards, the Nets rookie’s timeline to return is unclear.

Claxton last played in a game on December 9, for the Long Island Nets. He hasn’t played for Brooklyn since the Nets visited the Boston Celtics on Thanksgiving Eve.

Irving last played on November 14, LeVert on November 10.

Monday’s matchup marks the second and final time the Nets play the Timberwolves in 2019-20. They last met up on opening night. Minnesota won the game 127-126 in overtime.

Caris LeVert remains unavailable vs. Knicks

Neither Caris LeVert nor Kyrie Irving will be available for the Brooklyn Nets in their game against the New York Knicks on Thursday.

Caris LeVert (right thumb surgery) took a major step toward his return to game action this week by participating in contact portions of Nets practice. Thursday marks six weeks since the Brooklyn guard received surgery to repair damaged ligaments in his right thumb.

The Nets have had little to offer about LeVert’s status leading up to his return to practice, which is why his participation in contact work at practice was a surprise, even though it’s in-line with the initial timetable in which he was expected to return.

However, despite his improved status, LeVert will not be available for Kenny Atkinson on Thursday against the New York Knicks. He has been ruled out.

Kyrie Irving (right shoulder impingement) and Nic Claxton (left hamstring soreness) have both been ruled out, as well.

Claxton first injured his hamstring while with the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn G League affiliate, on December 9. The Nets rookie has not appeared in a game or been available for Brooklyn since.
