Alexander Mattison named NFLPA Community MVP

Mattison earned the award for hosting an event giving backpacks and school supplies to kids

The Minnesota Vikings are always looking at being a positive impact in the community and Alexander Mattison was awarded for his participation. On Friday morning, Mattison was named the NFLPA Community MVP.

Last week, Mattison provided more than 250 kids in Minnesota and his hometown of San Bernardino, CA with backpacks and school supplies at events through his I Am Gifted foundation this week.

Mattison firmly believes in the cause and doesn’t do it for the publicity.

“I do what I do, not to make any headlines, but to hopefully impact lives. I aim to help provide knowledge and resources that I didn’t have growing up. My goal is to help individuals — the youth especially — to open their eyes to doing everything they possibly can do to become the best version of themselves. I hope that after an I AM GIFTED experience, these kids can look in the mirror and say, ‘I AM GIFTED’ and truly believe it.” -Mattison

Talented football player and a better person.

Brandon Copeland has been named a finalist for the NFLPA Alan Page Community Award.

Jets linebacker Brandon Copeland is being recognized for his involvement in the community.

Copeland is one of five finalists for the NFLPA Alan Page Community Award. It’s the highest honor the NFLPA can bestow on a player. During the last week of the regular season, Copeland was named the NFLPA’s Community MVP.

Copeland helped over 300 underprivileged youth for the holidays. He took the kids on shopping sprees throughout New York and New Jersey to make sure they had gifts for the holiday season.

Copeland does all of these events through his Beyond the Basics Foundation. The NFLPA has already donated $10,000 to his foundation to help with future events.

The Jets have a handful of players that are involved in the community. Kelvin Beachum already won the NFLPA’s Community MVP with his drive collecting water bottles and assisting with the United Way of Greater Newark. Meanwhile, Jonotthan Harrison is the Jets’ Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee this year because of his fight against bullying in schools.

It certainly wasn’t a good year for the Jets on the field, but it’s good to see individuals on the team being recognized for their work off of it.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Beachum was named the Week 10 NFLPA Community MVP for donating $10,000 to the United Way of Greater Newark and also setting up a drive that generated 26,000 bottles of clean water for residents in need. He personally delivered many of them.

Beachum has always been one of the best in the league when it comes to giving back to the community. Last season, he was nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. He has worked with organizations that want to create technology-related solutions to ending world hunger and provide clean water for everyone around the world.

When Beachum was with the Steelers, he would often bring meals from their practice facility and give it to the homeless.

Beachum has always prided himself on his charitable works and feels it’s important to try and make a difference in the world. So while the Jets may not be doing great on the football field, they can always count on Beachum to do the right thing in the community.
