Denver at Las Vegas Game Preview

Why Denver Will Win

The running game keeps on working.

The Broncos have a nice mix of Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams helping the O crank out over 130 yards per game in five of the last six games.

It doesn’t always lead to wins, but when the rushing attack is rumbling, good things happen. Denver is 4-0 when running for 140 yards or more. The Las Vegas defense has given up 140 rushing yards or more five times and gave up over 100 yards in the first meeting.

Las Vegas won 28-14 in Week 4 thanks to four takeaways, but the Broncos haven’t been bad with turnovers all year.

Run, make the reeling Raiders press, assume the mistakes will follow.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 16

Why Las Vegas Will Win

Forget the four takeaways by the Raiders in the first meeting – that was an aberration.

However, the 300-yard passing game was part of the deal, and that should continue.

Derek Carr has been terrific for the league’s third-best air attack. The Bronco secondary has been good, but the teams that didn’t throw for big yards were mostly balanced. That’s not a thing with the Raiders.

The Denver run defense is strong, and the pass defense stats are a bit misleading. Las Vegas will keep the pressure on early and try to break the Broncos out of their shell.

The Raider defense will take its chances with Drew Lock trying to win this.

NFL Week 16 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Lock will add more of a downfield element than Teddy Bridgewater did, but he won’t be nearly consistent enough.

However, the ground attack will be okay, the defense will hold up in the fourth quarter, and the Raider offense that hasn’t scored more than 16 points in six of the last seven games will sputter again.

Washington at Dallas Game Preview

Why Washington Will Win

Garrett Gilbert was fine, but Taylor Heinicke is back for the Washington offense.

Adding more of a rushing element to the mix, the Football Team should be able to get back to its 100-yard rushing ways – it got there in the 27-20 loss to the Cowboys a few weeks ago.

Overall, the team wasn’t all that bad in the loss – except for the four turnovers. That wasn’t the norm for an offense that’s been strong at keeping the mistakes to a minimum and not pressing. The glitch from the first half of the season was fixed – at least until the Dallas game.

The Cowboys might be winning, but they’re still not out of their – relatively speaking – offensive funk. They’re winning because of four takeaways in each of the last three games. Washington should be able to limit the mistakes.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 16

Why Dallas Will Win

Beyond the tons and tons of takeaways, the offense is operating with a decent balance.

No, this hasn’t been the high-flying fun show of earlier in the season, and Ezekiel Elliott isn’t playing like his normal self thanks to a knee problem, but it’s working.

The defense is stepping up – it leads the NFL in takeaways – and the offense is taking advantage. In this showcase game, there should be a bit more pop and explosion against one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL.

Washington doesn’t just give up lots of yards; it gives up lots of big plays.

NFL Week 16 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

It’ll be an entertaining back-and-forth Sunday night game with both offenses teasing scoring drives until the Dallas balance takes over.

No, there won’t be four takeaways this time around from the Dallas defense, but there will be enough third down stops to force field goals instead of touchdowns. Two short Zeke touchdown runs will set the tone.

Miami at New Orleans Game Preview

Why Miami Will Win

Ian Book.

Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian are both out in the COVID protocol – to the chagrin of the only person playing fantasy football who needed one of them to be a go (hand raised) – and now it’s up to the okay Miami defense to take over.

It helps to face a slew of bad teams like Miami has over the six-game winning streak – lots of New York teams, to go along with a strong win over Baltimore – but the run defense has been great, no one has hit 300 yards in total offense in three weeks, and it shouldn’t take much from the offense to put this away.

Knock on wood, Miami seems to be over a bit of a hump when it cones to COVID issues. There’s a great balance to the attack to mix things up enough to try out a few options against a New Orleans defense that pitched a gem.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 16

Why New Orleans Will Win

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were held to no points.

Tom Brady and the offense wasn’t bad, but everything stalled in the 9-0 loss thanks to a brilliant day by a Saint D that has 12’s number.

Against Miami, the run defense should hold up just fine. Tua Tagovailoa is going to bomb away on this New Orleans secondary that doesn’t give up a whole slew of touchdown passes and has been better at limiting the big plays.

Hand the ball off to Alvin Kamara, hit a few midrange plays, hope the defense can get the job done two weeks in a row.

NFL Week 16 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Can the New Orleans defense keep the momentum going? Yeah, it’ll do just enough to overcome Ian Book’s issues.

There won’t be anything crazy coming from Book, but he’ll keep things moving on third downs. The offense will slow things down, control the clock, and it’ll get a big all-around day from Kamara to pull off a semi-shocker at home.

Indianapolis at Arizona Game Preview

Why Indianapolis Will Win

Things aren’t exactly going well if you’re getting rocked by Detroit.

Arizona was humming right along, and then came the tough Monday night loss to the Rams followed up by the inexplicable 30-12 blowout to the Lions.

The passing game is putting up yards, but the offense is stalling too often. James Conner is banged up for a ground attack that’s okay, but not good enough.

The bigger problem lately is the other side. The defense that’s been so strong all year is starting to struggle more and more against the run. Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford hit the passes needed to keep things moving, and overall, the team just doesn’t have its swagger. The efficiency and timelines of the big plays aren’t there – it’s like the team isn’t all on the same page.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 16

Why Arizona Will Win

Enough is enough – even at home.

It’s been an inexplicable problem that the Cardinals are usually fine on turnovers on the road and have issues at home, but there’s too much talent and too much of a sense of urgency to not start playing better, especially on defense.

The pass defense should be okay, and the speed and toughness are there up front to be far nastier the the front has been over the last few weeks. Even with all of the problems, the run defense isn’t getting destroyed.

Now it’s time for the offense to work, but …

NFL Week 16 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Again with the turnovers.

Arizona as given the ball away 11 times at home and just three times on the road. The disruptive Indianapolis defense is taking the ball away everywhere. It leads the NFL in takeaways with two more in every game but one over the last nine games.

The Colts won’t be great, but they’ll be balanced offensively and will come up with two takeaways on the other side to get out with yet another important win.

Cleveland at Green Bay Game Preview

Why Cleveland Will Win

The Browns are slowly starting to get their parts back.

They’re hardly all back full, and they’re losing guys as they’re bringing others back, but they should be more functional than the version that lost to the Raiders 16-14 last week.

Even with all of the issues, this is still a strong defensive team that should be able to keep the Packer offense from going off. Green Bay is shooting for a bigger, better seed, but it already clinched the division and a playoff spot. If there’s even a blip of a letdown, the Brown defense that’s been solid against the run and great at taking the ball away should take over.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 16

Why Green Bay Will Win

Yeah, there are still issues with the Browns.

Even though the team is slowly coming back, there’s still going to be a continuity issue. Between practice time and consistency, the machine isn’t going to start humming again in a hurry.

This was hardly a Brown offensive juggernaut before all of the problems. The team scores more than 14 points just once over the last five games and haven’t scored more than 17 in seven of the last nine games.

The passing attack isn’t there to keep up if Aaron Rodgers and company go off early, and the easy points shouldn’t come on takeaways – Green Bay doesn’t turn the ball over.

NFL Week 16 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Expect methodical rather than sensational.

Green Bay has settled into a nice groove over the last month, but it’s not razor-sharp. The offense is making up for a defense that’s slipping against the run, and the Browns should be able to run just well enough to keep this from getting brutally ugly.

All of the CFN NFL Predictions

San Francisco at Tennessee Game Preview

Why San Francisco Will Win

Tennessee is having injury issues on the offensive line with OT Taylor Lewan and OG Rodger Saffold out.

Tennessee backfield, welcome to the San Francisco defensive front.

The Titan offense has sputtered and coughed over the last few weeks, failing to score more than 20 points in any of the last four games with 13 turnovers in there losses and with little to no passing game.

AJ Brown is expected to be back soon, but Julio Jones hasn’t done much, and the playmakers aren’t getting the job done when the running game isn’t.

San Francisco’s offense has heated up. Deebo Samuel has been great, the running game has been solid, and the team has won five of its last six games with a whole lot of big pass plays and a good balance.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 16

Why Tennessee Will Win

So what’s going right?

It’s been a rough run over the last month, but the running game is doing a decent job without Derrick Henry. A slew of parts are being pieced together to hammer out over 200 yards in two of the last three games and with 100 yards or more in the last four.

The defense is still getting doing just fine against the run. New England is the only team to run for over 100 yards on the Titans in the last nine games, there aren’t too many big dashes allowed, and overall the game should stay close at home.

Even with the issues on the O line, get physical right away, try to control the clock, and …

NFL Week 16 Schedules, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

San Francisco is playing too well and the Tennessee offense is just too mediocre.

At home, and with the season starting to slip, the Titan defense will come up with a gem to keep the close, but Ryan Tannehill and the passing attack won’t do enough to take advantage of the opportunities.

It’ll be a good fight, but the 49er offense will do a bit more defensively on third downs.

5. Tennessee at Green Bay

LINE: Green Bay -3
ATS PICK: Under on the 54
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

We start this week with a bit of a curveball.

Yes, like Green Bay -3 at home with the No. 1 seed in the playoffs all ready to be wrapped up, but this game will be about the total.

More to the point, this game is about the snow, the cold, and the frozen field – no, I won’t use frozen tundra, because by its very definition tundra is already frozen, at least at one sub-level, and I’m sticking with my belief to not use the repetitive term even though I’ve been honked at by geography and geology types that tundra doesn’t have to be frozen, and …

Sorry.

It’s going to (bleep)ing snow.

The forecast is for about a 90% chance of snow and around 15 mph winds by the time this thing kicks off. It’s going to be freezing, neither team will be happy, and this isn’t going to be a high-scoring shootout.

Now, the one concern when it comes to games like this will be field goals – neither side will want to kick them. Even so, even in normal conditions there might be a shot that these two could make it a wee bit more of a defensive slugfest than it might seem.

But get in fast if you’re getting in at all – this total is going to go down fast.
