Texans don’t know if receiver Will Fuller will play against the Titans

Houston Texans coach Bill O’Brien does not know if wide receiver Will Fuller will make his return on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

Houston Texans wide receiver Will Fuller did not play against the Denver Broncos in an eventual 38-24 loss. After being limited in practice all week, Houston chose to rest the fourth-year wideout due to a hamstring injury.

Previously, Fuller suffered a hamstring injury in the Texans’ Week 7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He came back in Week 12, to beat the Colts on a Thursday night, played two games in total and then did not play against Denver.

Will he play in a crucial Week 15 matchup against the Tennessee Titans?

“I don’t know,” said Texans coach Bill O’Brien on Wednesday.

Fuller has yet to play a full season in the NFL. He has battled with numerous hamstring ailments throughout his career and a torn ACL in 2018. Despite so, he is a key-cog to an offense that is tough to beat with him on the field.

In nine games of play in 2019, Fuller has 42 receptions for 598 yards and three touchdowns. The Texans are 6-2 in games that he completes.

Texans still a top-10 team in Touchdown Wire’s NFL power rankings

The Houston Texans are still a top-10 squad in the Touchdown Wire NFL power rankings, even after taking a beating from the Denver Broncos, 38-24.

The Houston Texans took it on the chin when the Denver Broncos walloped them 38-24 at NRG Stadium in Week 14, and with a rookie quarterback making his first road start. Certainly such a shocker would drop the Texans out of the top-10 of anyone’s power rankings.

According to the Touchdown Wire’s NFL power rankings for Week 15, the Texans weren’t harmed too bad by the surprise loss. The first place club in the AFC South tumbled to No. 8.

The Texans were coming off a 28-22 win over the Patriots in which they matched the four touchdowns allowed by New England’s defense all season and shut down New England’s offense (although that’s not difficult to do these days). So presumably, against the Broncos and rookie quarterback Drew Lock making his first road start, Romeo Crennel’s defense was set for another strong performance.

Perhaps not. The Broncos may have their franchise quarterback of the future, and the Texans have some serious questions about their defense after Lock completed 22 of 27 passes for 309 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Lock became the first rookie in NFL history with at least 300 passing yards and three touchdown passes in his first career road start, and his 235 yards in the first half was the most for a Broncos quarterback since Peyton Manning was taking snaps. Meanwhile, Deshaun Watson managed just 28 completions in 50 attempts for 292 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. The Texans travel to Tennessee next week to meet the red-hot Titans. A loss bumps them out of the AFC South lead — and possibly out of playoff contention altogether if the performance against Denver was more than an anomaly.

The Titans are currently No. 11 in Touchdown Wire’s power rankings. A loss to Tennessee will no doubt relegate the Texans to the outside looking in on the top-10. More importantly, they will fall a game behind the Titans with two games to go.

4 reasons the Ravens will beat the Jets in Week 15

The 11-2 Baltimore Ravens take on the 5-8 New York Jets. Though no one is questioning the Ravens, here’s why they’ll win in Week 15.

The Baltimore Ravens get a rare chance to host a primetime game, taking on the New York Jets on Thursday to kick off Week 15. What had looked like an interesting matchup to start the season thanks to some players swapping sides over the offseason is now looking like a bloodbath in waiting.

It seems like no one is expecting New York to make this game even close, much less giving them a chance to win. But for anyone needing more reasons to expect a Ravens victory this week, here you go.

It’s the Ravens

Baltimore currently sits at the top of the power rankings for good reason. They feature one of the best defenses in the league right now and the most points scored on offense. They’ve beaten the best teams from both the AFC and NFC and have won nine straight games to get to this point. Not only have the Ravens won a bunch, they’ve blown out some really good teams that are expected to find their way to the postseason.

Anyone going into any week not expecting Baltimore to win simply hasn’t been paying very much attention.

S Justin Reid: Adversity shows what type of team Texans have

The Houston Texans are not getting any easy road to the post-season. Their safety, Justin Reid, thinks that’s a good thing that will show the truth.

“If there’s not any adversity, it wouldn’t be any fun.”

Those were the words safety Justin Reid told reporters Monday, and the Houston Texans have their fair share after taking a 38-24 beating from the Denver Broncos Sunday at NRG Stadium.

Now, with the Tennessee Titans with an 8-5 record the same as the Texans, what seemed to have been a straight shot to a fourth consecutive AFC South title in five years has now become a dogfight fraught with adversity.

Though not struggling with new injuries, the Texans are dealing with a disheartening loss followed by a series of three games that will define their 2019 campaign.

Though worrisome based on the lack of definite possibilities, Reid wouldn’t have it any other way. Adversity will strike. As he says, it makes it more fun, as it forces one to get better and show their true colors.

“I feel like adversity really shows what type of team you got,” said Reid. “It shows what type of character you have. It’s not if adversity strikes, it when adversity strikes, how you respond to it, and that’s the type of mentality that we have.”

In recent years, the Texans aren’t the team to avoid adversity. Once it was poor quarterbacking that held them back — via Brian Hoyer, Brock Osweiler or whomever else — but it didn’t stop them reaching the playoffs. At other times, it was the opposite. In 2018, Houston got off to a 0-3 start, only to finish the season 11-5.

2019’s adversity comes within a lack of consistency. Throughout the season, they’ve beaten winning teams, notably the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs, and have lost to reeling ones, such as the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers.

Houston’s ability to beat playoff teams and lose to lowly ones is their crux in 2019. It’s their sort of adversity. They can’t let it define them. In the next three weeks, they will face the surging 8-5 Tennessee Titans twice and the 6-7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers once.

Will the Texans respond to the challenge and win the crown of the AFC South? Only time will tell how they react to that adversity that Reid thinks they so very need.

What would Texans QB Deshaun Watson’s rap name be?

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is a superstar for his football skills. If he was a rap artist, what would his name be? Swae Lee answers.

There are important questions, and then there are vitally important questions. An example of a vitally important question would be this: what would Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson’s rap name be?

Swae Lee, a Grammy-nominated rap artist, answers the vitally important quandary.

Watson’s rap name, according to Lee, would be Young Vision, as he released announced, via The Checkdown on Instagram.

Why Young Vision?

“He’s got that vision on and off the field,” as Lee concluded.

Watson’s vision on the field is to win football games. He’s pretty good at that. In 35 career starts, he is 22-13, accomplishing a passer rating of 102.3 in the process.

Off the field, Watson has made an effort to give back to the Houston community. He has also attempted to build a global brand. Though only 24 years old, he is well on his way to succeeding in both.

It appears as if Swae Lee’s Young Vision moniker for Watson is accurate.

Zach Cunningham: Texans have to put their best foot forward

Heading into an important three weeks, Houston Texans inside linebacker Zach Cunningham says the team has to put their best foot forward.

It’s do or die time for the Houston Texans. At 8-5, they are tied for the crown of the AFC South, with none other than an opponent they will see twice in the next three weeks: the Tennessee Titans.

Houston, if they have playoff aspirations, must at least split the series with the Titans and beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sandwich game to ensure their spot in the playoffs.

Texans standout linebacker Zach Cunningham explains.

“I mean, it’s basically what it is. Three games left, we gotta, you know, put our best foot forward going into the rest of the season,” said Cunningham on Monday.

Cunningham, in his third professional season, is a catalyst to the Texans’ success. He already has a career-best in combined tackles with 114, which also paces the team. His 79 solo tackles sit at second in the NFL while his 114 combined ones are sixth.

Of course, Cunningham won’t be the one to lead the Texans to the post-season alone. He needs to rest of the team to step up to the challenge, which he feels like they can do.

“I feel like we are able to step up to the challenge. Just got to go out there and prove it,” said Cunningham.

Houston will have to embark in their three-week stretch to the postseason without their best defensive player, J.J. Watt, who has been out since Week 8. Instead, their defense will be compiled by a lesser-known group, one that Cunningham believes will get the Texans where they want to be.

“Definitely confident in the guys that we have in the locker room. Guys will continue to fight and throughout the whole season,” said Cunningham. “That’s what we continue to show.”

The Texans will begin their playoff quest on Sunday. They will travel to Nashville to face the surging Titans.

7 biggest and boldest predictions for Week 15’s Ravens vs. Jets

We here at Ravens Wire believe Baltimore beats up on the Jets but our individual bold predictions have it happening in different big ways.

It’s a short week in Week 15 as the Baltimore Ravens host the New York Jets on Thursday night. What had been billed as two first-round quarterbacks leading young teams and some familiar faces has now turned into a lopsided-looking contest without much of the star appeal on one side thanks to injuries. But in the primetime spotlight, the Ravens have a chance to continue their amazing winning streak, lock up a better playoff spot and put on a show in front of the nation.

We here at Ravens Wire certainly believe that’s what’s bound to happen in Week 15’s Baltimore vs. New York matchup as we lay out our bold predictions.

Hayden Hurst has his first multiple-touchdown game

Hurst had an excellent game against the Bills last week, catching a 61-yard touchdown. He’s been steadily improving his game over the season and earning more of the focus of the offense as well. With tight end Mark Andrews banged up and likely drawing most of the Jets’ coverage, Hurst winds up being wide open all game as he explodes to the best game of his career.

Ravens likely to see Jets RB Le’Veon Bell in spite of flu-bowling session

In spite of going out bowling all night after being ruled out with the flu last week, the New York Jets won’t punish Le’Veon Bell in Week 15

While the Baltimore Ravens have a short week to get ready for the New York Jets in Week 15, they’ll have to spend some of that time preparing for running back Le’Veon Bell.

Bell’s status had been in some question in part because of a flu diagnosis that kept him out of last week’s game and because of what he chose to spend his free time on. On the same day Bell was ruled out of Week 14’s game against the Miami Dolphins, he apparently felt well enough to go bowling all night.

For obvious reasons, that’s generally frowned upon and could have earned discipline from the team in response. However, New York coach Adam Gase said the issue likely won’t earn Bell any punishment, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

This isn’t the first time Bell has been in the headlines for things other than football. He’s perhaps more infamous at this point for holding out all of last year with the Pittsburgh Steelers in a contract dispute. Though he’s been far less of a potential distraction with New York this season, Bell’s outing comes at a time when the Jets are struggling and questions are popping up about the future of everyone there.

But New York’s loss could have been Baltimore’s gain this week. While the Jets are 5-8 and considered one of the worst teams in the league right now, not having to face off against Bell would have been a big help for the Ravens. Baltimore has a chance to not only lock up the AFC North and a top-4 seed this week but potentially even clinch the No. 1 seed early. But all of the Ravens’ playoff scenarios revolve around beating the Jets in Week 15. Without Bell in the lineup, it would be a far easier job.

With the Pittsburgh Steelers, Bell was regularly a thorn in Baltimore’s side. Over nine career games against the Ravens, Bell put up 720 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground while adding another 348 yards and three touchdowns through the air. It looks as though Baltimore’s defense will have to find a way to slow down that pace this week.

Steelers open as home favorites to Bills this week

The Steelers are favored at home but not by much to the Buffalo Bills.

This week the Pittsburgh Steelers will have their final home game of the season when they take on the Buffalo Bills. The Steelers are playing for their playoff lives every week and with two road games to wrap up the season, they need a little more of the magic they have been playing with the last eight weeks.

The opening line for this week’s game on Bet MGM shows the Steelers as slight 2.5-point favorites. Considering the Bills are currently 9-4 and ahead of the Steelers in the playoff standings, this is generous.

Pittsburgh is 16-9 lifetime in the series and have won the last six and are 9-1 in the last 10. This game will be on Sunday Night Football and Pittsburgh is always a tough out on prime time TV.
