Lions injury update: An offensive lineman joins the team’s practice injury report

Lions injury update: An offensive lineman joins the team’s practice injury report, with left tackle Taylor Decker limited on Thursday

The Detroit Lions head to the final practice ahead of the team’s Week 10 trip to Houston in relatively good health. However, Thursday’s practice participation report did feature one new addition after a Wednesday session that saw two defensive contributors sit out with injury.

Linebackers Malcolm Rodriguez and Jalen Reeves-Maybin are still sidelined, and neither should be expected to play in Houston.

The new addition is left tackle Taylor Decker, who was listed as a limited participant with a shoulder. He was not on Wednesday’s injury list, and that practice was an estimated walkthrough.

Newly acquired DE Za’Darius Smith continues to be away from the team after initially reporting. Head coach Dan Campbell and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn have both indicated Smith can play on Sunday and is excused from practice this week.

Defensive end Josh Paschal continues to battle back from the removal of a non-cancerous mass from his shoulder. The cancer survivor from his college days at Kentucky missed last week as well. Rookie defensive lineman, who missed Week 9, joined Paschal as a full participant in both of the practices this week.

Final score predictions for Bengals vs. Ravens in Week 10

A final prediction for Bengals vs. Ravens in Week 10.

Thursday night’s Week 10 encounter with the Baltimore Ravens isn’t just a chance to turn the season around for the Cincinnati Bengals.

It’s a chance to return to a nightmarish location and use it as a springboard.

Last November, the Bengals played a Thursday night game in Baltimore and Joe Burrow suffered his season-ending wrist injury in the loss.

One year later, the Bengals are 4-5 and winners in three of their last four after starting 1-4. Burrow is playing near MVP level with a 70.2 completion percentage and 20 touchdowns against four interceptions.

Yet, the rest of the organization hasn’t upheld its end of the bargain. Injuries, coaching gaffes, and roster construction issues have held back Burrow, and some of those factors won’t get much better on Thursday night. Tee Higgins won’t be able to play again, and potential rookie replacement Jermaine Burton missed a walkthrough last Saturday, which got him punished. Left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. is a question mark for the game, too. The team also opted to sit out of the trade deadline on the defensive side of the ball.

The hosting Ravens, meanwhile, are 6-3 and winners in six of their last seven and Lamar Jackson is also playing at an MVP level, completing 68.2 percent of his passes with 20 scores and two picks.

Even so, these teams met in Week 5 and the Bengals only came up just short in a 41-38 overtime loss as Burrow threw five scores. He’ll probably have to do that again Thursday night, as his running game probably isn’t going to make much headway against the league’s top run defense — but the unit does cough up an average of 24.3 points per game.

Given the defenses, this is probably going to be a shootout again. Given how well they know each either, it will stay close too.

It’s truly a coinflip matchup, with both teams on short rest and coming off blowouts of inferior teams last weekend. But elements like desperation and revenge shouldn’t go overlooked — and neither should Burrow’s underrated play right now.

Prediction: Bengals 27, Ravens 23

Is Tee Higgins playing today? Injury updates for Bengals WR

Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins is dealing with a leg injury. Here are the latest updates for Week 10.

(This story was updated to add new information.)

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins is again a question mark for the team, this time for Thursday night’s primetime encounter with the Baltimore Ravens in Week 10.

Higgins, dealing with his second soft-tissue injury that has cost him games this season already, has missed two games in a row and Thursday night is very much in jeopardy, too.

Here’s the latest.

Tee Higgins injury update

  • Update: Higgins was one of the team’s inactive players.
  • The Bengals listed Higgins as “doubtful” on the final injury report.
  • Higgins suffered a quad injury in practice and missed Week 8. He then missed the Week 9 win over the  Las Vegas Raiders, going from “day-to-day,” to “doubtful” on the final injury report.

How long will Tee Higgins be out?

Again, the Bengals haven’t put Higgins on injured reserve. But this would be his third missed game already. Now, only Week 11 against the Los Angeles Chargers sits between him and the Week 12 bye. There’s a very real chance he won’t get back on the field until Week 13.

Bengals WR depth chart

Ja’Marr Chase, Andrei Iosivas, Trenton Irwin, Jermaine Burton, Charlie Jones

Last weekend, the plan was for rookie Jermaine Burton to feature heavily with Higgins out. Burton blew that chance by missing Saturday’s walkthrough and was punished. It’s hard to imagine he’s fully trusted as a focal point of installs just a few days later, so Iosivas and the tight ends will need to carry the workload if Higgins is out.

Fantasy Football Rest-of-Season Rankings: Week 10

Forecasting where all of the notable players net out over the remainder of the season.

These fantasy football rankings track a player’s value for the remainder of the season and are intended to be used as a tool, not necessarily a definitive guide to player valuation.

The scoring system is performance PPR. There is no exact science behind season-long rankings, considering all of the variables and situational uncertainties at work.

Rankings key:
UP/DN is trending up or down from week’s ranking.
NR means the player wasn’t ranked last week.
UP/DN numbering shows where the player was ranked the prior week.

Fantasy football waiver wire: Week 10 free-agent forecast

Check out the top waiver wire targets in fantasy football entering Week 10.

With the fantasy football season entering its second half, the waiver wire remains arguably the most important tool to make that push for the playoffs.

There are four teams on a bye in Week 10, including the Las Vegas Raiders, Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns.

We’ll be taking a look at the top available players rostered in Yahoo, using the 75% rostered mark (at least 25% availability) as the threshold. If you have any questions about prioritizing a certain player over another, don’t be afraid to hit me up on X, formerly Twitter, (@KevinHickey11). Your questions and comments are always welcome!

We also will be taking a look at some deeper players to stash and the top streaming options for the upcoming week.

Fantasy football waiver wire recommendations refer to 12-team league formats, unless specifically stated.

Check back for any updates throughout Monday and Tuesday as more injury news becomes available.

Bengals make progress in AFC playoff standings for Week 10

The Bengals climbed the postseason standings in a weak AFC.

The Cincinnati Bengals took care of business against the now 2-7 Las Vegas Raiders and have themselves right back in the playoff picture with the trade deadline looming Tuesday.

Will the Bengals make a move and try to make a playoff push? They are now 4-5 but just one game back of the final spot, currently held by the 5-4 Denver Broncos.

Final score predictions for Patriots vs. Bengals in Week 1

A final prediction for Patriots vs. Bengals in Week 1.

Despite the drama around the wide receiver position, the Cincinnati Bengals appear to be in a good spot when they kick off the regular season against the New England Patriots on Sunday.

It doesn’t take long to see that the Bengals are routinely one of the week’s most-picked teams, boast the best odds and are a favorite in keeper leagues.

But that drama just makes the big headlines, as it should. At least as of this writing, the team and Ja’Marr Chase haven’t agreed on an extension, so while the team still hopes that he’ll suit up, he’s said he would be limited even if he does. Another hamstring injury for Tee Higgins has left him “doubtful” on the final injury report, meaning he won’t play.

Even so, Joe Burrow reigns above all when it comes to projections, given the importance of the position.

Coming off the first normal summer of his pro career, bigger and with zero hint of wrist woes that ended 2023 early, Burrow’s working an evolved offense that will go under center more, can use a versatile Zack Moss-Chase Brown combo in the backfield and big targets like Andrei Iosivas and Mike Gesicki through the air.

Questions remain about the defense, primarily because replacing DJ Reader in the middle of the trenches is a near-impossible task. But the communication woes in the secondary that ruined last season appear to be fixed thanks to the return of Vonn Bell and the successful transition to cornerback for Dax Hill.

Despite all this, a huge chunk of the optimism this week for the Bengals stems from the opposition.

Those Patriots just tailspinned out of the Bill Belichick era with a 4-13 mark last year and first-time head coach Jerod Mayor faces one of the league’s most daunting rebuilding overhauls.

Rookie quarterback Drake Maye is a reason for optimism in Foxboro, but the Patriots will start veteran Jacoby Brissett. While reliable, the 31-year-old journeyman is on his fourth team since 2021 and hasn’t thrown more than 12 scores in a season since 2019 and the cast of weapons around him is very much in its developmental stages.

Which is to say the Bengals couldn’t have asked for a better opponent if they need to miss Higgins for a week or have Chase limited. That’s not to say there isn’t an upset risk, but the chances of the usual Week 1 oddities that happen to teams are lessened dramatically for the Bengals by the fact Burrow had a normal summer.

Prediction: Bengals 27, Patriots 17

The worst offensive players in Tampa Bay’s win over Tennessee, per PFF

One of PFF’s worst-graded offensive players comes as a bit of a surprise after they scored one of Tampa Bay’s two touchdowns on Sunday.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense did the job on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, but it wasn’t quite the electrifying performance they had against the Houston Texans in Week 9.

The Bucs scored 20 points against the Titans with two touchdowns, but still had some red zone trouble along the way and could not get the running game going. There are definitely things to fix going forward, and Pro Football Focus recognized that with its offensive grades for the Bucs in Week 10 — and one of their five worst-graded players on offense came as a bit of a surprise.

Here are those five players below:

Texans RB Devin Singletary named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

Houston Texans running back Devin Singletary has earned AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his 30 carries for 150 yards and a TD in Week 10.

For the third time in team history, the Houston Texans have back-to-back players of the week.

The NFL announced Wednesday running back Devin Singletary as the AFC Offensive Player of the Week. Singletary had 30 carries for 150 yards and a touchdown in Houston’s 30-27 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 10.

The former Buffalo Bill was the only player to go over 125 yards on the ground the past week, and the 150 yards is the ninth-best single-game total league-wide in 2023. Singletary is also the eighth player in team history to attain the 150-yard threshold.

The Texans now have had a player of the week 54 times, and it is the 19th time an offensive player has won the award. Singletary joins Blake Cashman and C.J. Stroud as the other Texans to win player of the week honors in 2023.
