Where are the Rams in the NFL waiver order?

If the Rams try to claim a player who was waived, there are a lot of teams ahead of them in the waiver order

Every NFL team is required to cut its roster down to just 53 players by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Aug. 27, which means hundreds of players are going to hit the waiver wire after being cut.

Any player with fewer than four accrued seasons in the NFL is subject to waivers, which means any team can attempt to claim him. Teams will have to put in a waiver claim on any players they want to add by 12 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Aug. 28, so they’ll have to decide quickly which players are worth taking a run at.

Of course, just like the draft, there’s an order to all this madness. Teams are arranged in the waiver order based on their 2023 record, so it mirrors the 2024 draft order. That means the Los Angeles Rams will be 19th in the waiver order.

In other words, if they try to claim a player that one of the other 18 teams ahead of them also tries to claim, the Rams will not be awarded that player. There’s also no limit to how many players a team can claim. They just need to make room on the 53-man roster for any players who are added.

Below is the full waiver order, which will remain the order through the first three weeks of the season.

  1. Carolina Panthers
  2. Washington Commanders
  3. New England Patriots
  4. Arizona Cardinals
  5. Los Angeles Chargers
  6. New York Giants
  7. Tennessee Titans
  8. Atlanta Falcons
  9. Chicago Bears
  10. New York Jets
  11. Minnesota Vikings
  12. Denver Broncos
  13. Las Vegas Raiders
  14. New Orleans Saints
  15. Indianapolis Colts
  16. Seattle Seahawks
  17. Jacksonville Jaguars
  18. Cincinnati Bengals
  19. Los Angeles Rams
  20. Pittsburgh Steelers
  21. Miami Dolphins
  22. Philadelphia Eagles
  23. Cleveland Browns
  24. Dallas Cowboys
  25. Green Bay Packers
  26. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  27. Houston Texans
  28. Buffalo Bills
  29. Detroit Lions
  30. Baltimore Ravens
  31. San Francisco 49ers
  32. Kansas City Chiefs

Rams did not claim any players off waivers

The Rams did not claim any players off waivers Wednesday and only Quindell Johnson was added by another team

The Los Angeles Rams sat sixth in the waiver order following final cuts this week but they didn’t take advantage of their high slot. According to the NFL transaction wire, the Rams did not claim any players off waivers.

A total of 11 teams were awarded players on the waiver wire, with only one former Ram player being claimed: defensive back Quindell Johnson. The Bears claimed Johnson, though the Raiders also put in a claim for him so he was a popular player.

With players such as Logan Bruss, Robert Rochell and others clearing waivers, the Rams can now sign them to the practice squad if they’d like to. Teams can begin assembling their 16-player practice squad Wednesday.

While they didn’t add any players off waivers, the Rams are working to sign kicker Brett Maher, who did not hit the waiver wire because he’s a vested veteran.

The Rams will need to cut a player from their 53-man roster to make room for Maher, or they can simply place Ochaun Mathis on injured reserve to open up a spot.

No Rams players got claimed off waivers, and L.A. did not claim anyone

None of the players cut by the Rams on Tuesday were claimed off waivers. Los Angeles also did not claim any outside players.

The Los Angeles Rams cut ties with 23 players on Tuesday as they trimmed their roster down to just 53 men. Fortunately, none of the 23 players released by the Rams were claimed off waivers by another team.

That means the Rams can sign any of them to the 16-man practice squad, which is great news – especially for players who were on the fringe of making the team, including Jacob Harris and Chris Garrett.

Additionally, the Rams were not awarded any waiver claims. This doesn’t mean they didn’t put in any claims for players, but if they did, another team ahead of them in the order was awarded that player.

The Rams were 32nd in the waiver order so getting any of the top players was highly unlikely.

Takk McKinley returns to waivers after failing physical with 49ers

When the Falcons waived defensive end Takk McKinley, the interest was strong throughout the league as multiple teams put a claim in for the former first-round pick.

When the Falcons waived defensive end Takk McKinley, the interest was strong throughout the league as multiple teams put a claim in for the former first-round pick.

Two weeks later, McKinley has been claimed twice and waived two more times. After initially being awarded to the Cincinnati Bengals, the team placed him back on waivers after McKinley failed a physical.

Next up, it was the San Francisco 49ers to put a claim on Takk, saying they weren’t worried about his physical. Then, just like that, the 49ers seemed to change course. According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, San Francisco has placed McKinley back on waivers after failing another physical.

McKinley had been dinged up all season with a groin injury, but the extent of it wasn’t believed to be that serious. According to Barrows, the 49ers still have interest once McKinley gets healthy.

The Falcons originally selected McKinley with pick No. 26 in the 2017 draft. In three and a half NFL seasons, the former UCLA standout has recorded 53 solo tackles, 45 QB hits, and 17.5 sacks.

Rams claim LB Justin Hollins off waivers from Broncos

The Rams filled their final roster spot with former Broncos LB Justin Hollins.

Sean McVay made it very clear on Saturday that the Rams were going to be on the hunt for help in waivers after leaving their roster at only 52 players. And to almost no surprise, the Rams did add a defender.

According to the official transaction wire, the Rams claimed outside linebacker Justin Hollins off waivers from the Broncos. Hollins was a fifth-round pick in 2019 by the Broncos out of Oregon and finished his rookie year with 21 tackles, one sack and two passes defensed. He played 15 games.

Hollins reunites with Brandon Staley, who was his outside linebackers coach in Denver last season. Staley is running the Rams’ defense this year, and he’s familiar with Hollins from their one season together.

Hollins was transitioning to inside linebacker for the Broncos this season, but his best position is outside on the edge. In his final two years at Oregon, he had 11 sacks and 25.5 tackles for loss.
