Budda Baker officially wants out of Arizona following cryptic social media behavior

Baker may have played his last snap as a member of the Cardinals.

After quite a bit of speculation, two-time First-Team All-Pro safety Budda Baker formally requested a trade from the Arizona Cardinals on Friday evening, per multiple reports.

It wasn’t exactly surprising. Prior to the news of his request breaking, Baker had hinted at potential frustrations with his situation in Arizona through social media. He apparently removed references to the team from his Twitter account, and he also changed his profile picture, which was previously a picture of him in a Cardinals uniform.

That wasn’t the only indication that Baker was looking for a change in location, however. He also intimated potential grievances with the team in a Twitter post on Thursday night.

Baker’s dissatisfaction with his situation is not a particularly new development. At the Pro Bowl in February, he publicly criticized the team’s lack of preparation in 2022.

Around the same time, he privately told the team that he either wanted to be traded or receive a new deal that would make him the highest-paid safety in the NFL, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Cardinals apparently did not opt for the latter.

Baker was drafted by Arizona in the second round back in 2017, and he signed a four-year extension worth a total of $59 million in 2020. Per Spotrac, any team that acquires him would owe him $13.096 million in 2023 and $14.2 million in 2024.

While he wouldn’t exactly come cheap, and Arizona would likely require quite a bit of inducement to trade him, he is also one of the best safeties in the NFL and is still easily in his prime at just 27.

In addition to Baker’s First-Team All-Pro honors, he also was a Second-Team All-Pro selection in 2021 and has made five Pro Bowls in his career, including in each of the last four seasons.

Despite missing two games in 2022, he finished the year with 111 total tackles, seven pass deflections and two interceptions.

It’s still unclear if Arizona intends to trade him (or how Baker would respond if it doesn’t) but one thing is for certain: If Baker has indeed played his last snap as a Cardinal, someone is about to land an elite player in the secondary.

The Titans noted as a team looking to move up in the top of the draft

The Titans hold the No. 11 pick and could be in the market for a quarterback

As mock drafts fly off the presses, it’s always interesting to see projected trades. When a top draft analyst and insider like NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah suggests some deeper insight into a potential trade in the top 10, it’s worth delving into.

On the latest episode of his “Move the Sticks” podcast, Jeremiah touts the Tennessee Titans as a team looking to make a big move upward in the draft. Tennessee currently sits at No. 11 overall.

“Can I give you the team that I have been told to keep an eye on that’s exploring this and looking into this?” Jeremiah stated. “Again, this is just people around the league who said, ‘do not sleep on Numero 11’. The Tennessee Titans.”

The Titans could be in the market for a new quarterback. Veteran Ryan Tannehill is entering the final year of his 4-year, $118 million contract and he coming off a down year. Malik Willis did little to show he’s the potential answer in his rookie season audition.

The obvious team to watch in relation to the Titans is the Arizona Cardinals at No. 3 overall. The Cardinals new GM is Monti Osssenfort, who was hired this winter after spending the last three seasons as the director of player personnel for the Titans.

Such a move, from 11 to No. 3, would likely cost the Titans their third-round pick this year and a first-rounder in 2024, based on historical precedence. That would make quite the initial splash for new Titans GM Ran Carthon.

Aaron Rodgers said he’ll be playing for the Jets in 2023 and fans everywhere were pumped about it

Jets fans, rejoice. Aaron Rodgers is on the way.

Has any NFL franchise been just a quarterback away longer than the New York Jets? I mean, my goodness.

It feels like for every season over the last decade the thing for the Jets has been “if only they had a quarterback.” New York has had consistently stacked rosters from the Mark Sanchez days up until now.

The Jets have tried to many options. Zach Wilson. Mike White. Sam Darnold. Nothing has worked. Nothing has stuck.

Today is different, though. New York finally got its quarterback. Aaron Rodgers announced his intention to be a New York Jet for the 2023 season. He’s going to look super weird in his uniform, but hey. A quarterback is a quarterback.

And Jets fans were absolutely thrilled to learn they’ve finally got one. A legitimately good one.

Stefon Diggs voiced his Bills frustration on ‘The Shop’ and here come the trade rumors

Stefon Diggs’ future with the BIlls is definitely in question

Things can change so quickly in the NFL. One day, you’re going toe to toe with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to only lose by what really amounts to 13 seconds.

Next thing you know, everything is starting to feel like it’s falling apart and the run is coming to an end.

That’s probably how Bills fans feel at this point after seeing Stefon Diggs voice his frustration with the team during a guest appearance on The Shop. Diggs was asked what the Bills needed to take them over the hump and get them into the Super Bowl.

He immediately got frustrated. The Bills don’t really need anything — the pieces are already in place. The team just…has to do it.

“It doesn’t make sense. I’ll rack my brain with this [expletive] at this point, because, my first year I got there, we went to the AFC Championship…The next year we lose by 13 seconds. Then, this year we lose…I think it’s more execution than anything. It’s small little pieces on why [expletive] is not going right. I’m like this — you can wreck your brain, like, we’ve got the players. We’ve got the plays. Why [expletive] not coming together? That’s where you draw so much questioning.”

You can really feel Diggs’ frustration in this moment. It’s the same frustration everyone seems to have with the Bills at this point. It makes you wonder what their future holds in this case. Especially when Diggs is doing things like unfollowing the Bills on Instagram.

With that in mind, it’s letting even harder to ignore the trade rumors Diggs’ name has shown up in. The Dallas one is obvious with the connection of his brother on the team.

After this video, though? There will be plenty more videos to come. Brace yourself, Bills fans. It’s going to be a long summer.

Titans reportedly shopping Jaguars tormentor Derrick Henry

Could the AFC South soon be without Derrick Henry?

Derrick Henry has been a thorn in the side of the Jacksonville Jaguars for years, but that era may be over.

According to Michael Silver of Bally Sports, multiple NFL general managers told him that the Tennessee Titans were shopping Henry for a trade in conversations with teams at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine.

To be sure, trade talk was rampant at the combine. According to my sources — all of them current general managers — Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry, Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey and Arizona Cardinals receiver DeAndre Hopkins are among the players who’ve been shopped in recent days.

Henry, 29, has twice led the NFL in rushing and has eclipsed 1,500 rushing yards in three of the last four seasons. But the Titans may be in need of a fresh start after finishing the 2022 season with a bottom five offense and seven straight losses.

Running backs are rarely good into their 30s and Henry has more mileage than any back in the league. With a $16,367,647 cap hit on the way for Henry in 2023, the Titans seem ready to cash in that chip and rebuild their offense.

In his seven-year career, Henry has 1,579 yards from scrimmage and 16 total touchdowns against the Jaguars.

Jaguars’ Doug Pederson won’t discuss Josh Allen trade rumors

Doug Pederson didn’t want to “get into a lot of detail” about the Josh Allen trade rumors.

Jacksonville Jaguars outside linebacker Josh Allen is drawing a lot of interest ahead of the NFL trade deadline, according to multiple reports. The latest was a report from Jordan Schultz of TheScore, who said multiple teams have shown “huge interest” in the pass rusher.

To this point, the Jaguars haven’t given much indication if they are entertaining the interest shown in Allen. When head coach Doug Pederson was asked on Monday about the rumors surrounding the Jaguars’ three-time defensive team captain, he didn’t have much to say on the topic.

“I’m not going to get into a lot of detail about the roster right now and things like that,” Pederson said. “We know that there’s a lot of moving parts in the NFL. Everybody’s trying to make moves, especially those teams that are having success and all that. Even for us, there may be an opportunity to add some talent somewhere, so we’re obviously going to take a look at everything.

“I really like the guys and how they’re working right now, and like I said earlier, we’ve just got to keep working with them.”

Allen, 25, has 23.5 in three-and-a-half seasons with the Jaguars and is on the fourth season of his rookie contract. Jacksonville picked up the fifth-year option on his deal earlier this season, which is set to net him $11.5 million in 2023.

On Monday, Mia O’Brien of 1010XL reported the Jaguars are monitoring the wide receivers who could be available on the trade market.

The deadline for trades is at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 1. After that, teams won’t be able to finalize deals until the 2023 league year begins in March.

Report: Jaguars monitoring receiver market at NFL trade deadline

The Jaguars are reportedly keeping an eye on wide receivers who could be available.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are keeping an eye on wide receivers who could be available at the Nov. 1 trade deadline and beyond, according to a Monday morning report.

“It would seem to make sense that they’d be sellers,” Mia O’Brien of 1010XL reported. “However, and this is a huge development for the Jaguars front office, I have been told by several sources that they are monitoring which pass catchers could be available at Tuesday’s deadline, as well as going into the offseason.”

The Jaguars spent big in the offseason to add free agents Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, and Evan Engram. While those three players are top three on the team in receiving yards, Jacksonville has been unable to stretch the field at all with deep passes.

Among the players who have been rumored to possibly be available are Elijah Moore of the New York Jets and Chase Claypool of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Moore, 22, reportedly requested a trade after catching only one pass for 11 yards against the Miami Dolphins in Week 5 and zero passes in a Week 6 game against the Green Bay Packers. He was held out of action in Week 7 and returned Sunday, but again finished without a reception.

There hasn’t been much indication that the Steelers would want to part with Claypool, but with Diontae Johnson, George Pickens, and Pat Freiermuth have all emerged as bigger parts of the team’s passing offense. At 2-6, Pittsburgh may be ready to part with Claypool, who is in year three of his rookie contract.

One player each NFL team could trade before the deadline, from Chase Claypool to Melvin Gordon

A couple of these players are already on the move. Will any others be dealt before the NFL trade deadline?

The NFL’s trade deadline is fast approaching, and there have already been some players on the move. That includes the Carolina Panthers recently dealing running back Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers and receiver Robbie Anderson to the Arizona Cardinals.

There are a number of contending teams that could be looking to shore up an area of weakness as they aim to make a postseason run. Not to mention, there are a number of struggling teams looking to sell some big-name players to acquire additional draft capital.

Ahead of the Nov. 1 deadline, let’s look at some other players who might be on the move, with one from every NFL team, as assembled by our NFL Wires staff.

DT Daron Payne is potential trade deadline fit for the Cardinals

The Cardinals could potentially beef up their defensive line for the next few seasons by acquiring DT Daron Payne from the Washington Commanders.

With the trade deadline a week away, there will be a number of prominent veterans discussed as potential trade targets.

One of those standout players is Washington Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne, who is playing through a contract year. He is a player the Arizona Cardinals should consider.

According to Athletic writer Ben Standig, teams have begun calling the Commanders about a potential Payne deal, one that is expected to net Washington a 2023 Day 2 draft selection.

The Commanders have a very young defensive line, all of which are expected to receive contract extensions in the near future. Payne may be the odd man out and the team would be wise to move him for draft capital now if they don’t feel they will agree to an extension in the offseason.

General manager Steve Keim has long sought an impact defensive tackle. He missed on former first-round selection Robert Nkemdiche. He loved Quinnen Williams in the 2019 draft, but Kyler Murray was the obvious choice there. Keim and the front office also were infatuated with Derrick Brown in the 2020 Draft, but he was selected the pick before theirs.

Payne is a former first-round selection and is one of the best interior defensive lineman in the league. He’s performing at a high level this season, with 3.5 sacks on the year to this point.

The Cardinals could certainly use help at the edge rusher position, but Payne is such a force from the interior that they could likely get away with what they currently have on the outside if they acquired him. The addition of Payne with J.J. Watt and Zach Allen is a very formidable unit.

If the Cardinals acquired Payne, it would be a long-term move, one that is intended on keeping him in Arizona on a multi-year extension. It would solve a glaring weakness of the Cardinals the past few seasons with flying colors.
