Here’s where Chiefs OL Joe Thuney ranks outside the ‘NFL Top 100’ list

Here’s where Kansas City #Chiefs OL Joe Thuney ranks outside the ‘NFL Top 100’ list | @EdEastonJr

The annual NFL Top 100 list, voted by the players, is a ranking everyone looks forward to and sets the bar for the upcoming season. The Kansas City Chiefs have regularly featured multiple players on the list in previous years.

Chiefs starting offensive guard Joe Thuney was mentioned in this year’s program but only for missing out on making the list. The multiple-time Super Bowl champion ranked 101st, sitting just outside the top 100 list. In his recorded testimonial, Atlanta Falcons offensive guard Chris Lindstrom spoke highly of the Chiefs All-Pro.

“He’s phenomenal (and) a really good technician, so he drops back the way he does.” said Lindstrom. “and I just love and respect the way he plays.”

Thuney’s late-season injury last year may have affected his ranking, as he was forced to miss the rest of the Super Bowl run. The pectoral injury is healed as he was cleared to return to practice a few days ago at training camp.

Thuney just missing out on the top 100 is disappointing, but it’s interesting that he only lost out by one spot. The decision could be used as fuel for the veteran offensive lineman heading into the 2024 season.

Cooper Kupp voted 69th-best player in NFL for 2024

Cooper Kupp came in at No. 69 on the NFL’s Top 100 Players for 2024 list, which is voted on by players around the league

Cooper Kupp has had back-to-back disappointing seasons marred by injuries, but heā€™s still viewed as one of the best players in the NFL by his peers.

On NFL Networkā€™s Top 100 Players for 2024 list, Kupp came in at No. 69 for the upcoming season, his fourth time making the top 100. Itā€™s obvious that players around the league still view Kupp as a premier talent when available and heā€™s expected to have a bounce-back year now that heā€™s fully healthy again.

Last year, Kupp was No. 47 on the top-100 list after being voted No. 4 in 2022 following his historic triple crown season. His first appearance in the top 100 came in 2020 when he was ranked 89th.

Last season, Kupp caught just 59 passes for 737 yards and five touchdowns in the 12 games he played. The only season in which he had fewer receptions and yards was in 2018 when he played just eight games. He was hampered by a hamstring injury early in the year, which caused him to miss the first four games, and he never seemed to fully recover.

The Rams hope Kupp can go into the 2024 season 100% healthy without any limitations, and pairing him with Puka Nacua should give them one of the best receiving tandems in the league.

Kupp is the second Rams player to make the Top 100 so far this year, with Kyren Williams being voted the 78th-best player.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is implied as the player Ja’Marr Chase refuses to name in the NFL Top 100

Kansas City #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is implied as the player Ja’Marr Chase refuses to name in the NFL Top 100 | @EdEastonJr

The annual countdown of the ‘NFL Top 100′ players is underway, and players’ responses to their peers are bulletin board material for the new season. The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to have multiple players on the list this year, with the top spot assumed to be going to their star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver appears in a viral clip, giving his option of who the top player is on this year’s list. He makes it well known that he’s refusing to say a particular player’s name due to an ongoing rivalry.

“I’m not saying i give credit when it is due, but I’m not saying his name,” said Chase with a smirk. “I’m sorry, Joe Burrow, I’m not saying that guy’s name. He’s good. He’s amazing, he’s good, not gonna lie. Two years in a row, I’m putting Burrow first.”

The Chiefs and Bengals have met several times over the last few seasons, including a split of two AFC Championship games. The two teams are scheduled to meet at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 2, and this clip could be seen making the rounds well before game day.

Falcons safety Jessie Bates makes NFL Top 100 Players of 2024

Jessie Bates III was the third Falcons player listed on the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2024 countdown

The Atlanta Falcons paid top dollar to acquire Jessie Bates III in free agency last year and the play-making safety responded with the best season of his NFL career. Bates recorded six interceptions and was arguably Atlanta’s best defensive player most weeks.

After another solid season, the 27-year-old is starting to get more recognition around the league. On Tuesday, Bates became the third Falcons player to be listed on the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2024 countdown. Bates was ranked No. 74 by his NFL peers:

Sometimes the grass is greener on the other side, especially in Atlanta for Bates. In his first season with the Falcons, Bates received his first Pro Bowl selection in his sixth NFL season. The safety had a career year by setting new highs with six interceptions, three forced fumbles and 132 tackles. — Christian Gonzales, NFL.com

Bates joined quarterback Kirk Cousins (No. 81) and guard Chris Lindstrom (No. 88) on the NFL’s Top 100. However, it’s hard to imagine any other Falcons players making the cut. The countdown is currently airing on NFL+ but will replay on NFL Network starting on July 31.

Eagles’ WR DeVonta Smith lands at No. 90 on the NFL’s Top 100 Players list for 2024

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeVonta Smith landed at No. 90 on the NFL’s Top 100 Players list for 2024

DeVonta Smith is one of the top wide receivers in the NFL, and after signing a three-year, $75 million extension, he’s also one of the highest-paid at his position.

Smith will enter year four in Philadelphia as a top-15 player at his position andĀ  No. 90 on the NFL’s Top 100 players list, voted on by his peers.

Smith has recorded 240 catches for 3,178 yards and 19 touchdowns over three seasons with Philadelphia.

Smith shattered the Eagles rookie record for receiving yards (916) in 2021, surpassing a mark previously held by DeSean Jackson, and established a team record for single-season receptions by a wide receiver (95) in 2022.

Smith logged 1,000 yards receiving for a second consecutive year in 2023.

Eagles’ RB Saquon Barkley lands at No. 86 on the NFL’s Top 100 Players list for 2024

Philadelphia Eagles’ RB Saquon Barkley lands at No. 86 on the NFL’s Top 100 Players list for 2024

Saquon Barkley will arrive at the NovaCare Complex on Tuesday for his first training camp as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The electric running back is still one of the top players in the game at his position, and the respect from his peers is still prevalent, as Barkley landed at No. 86 on the NFL’s Top 100 players list for 2024.

Barkley played six seasons with the Eaglesā€™ NFC East rival. In 74 career games with New York, the 27-year-old rushed 1,201 times for 5,211 yards and 35 touchdowns. Barkley was also a weapon in the passing game, tallying 288 receptions for 2,100 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Heā€™ll now give Jalen Hurts and the Eagles a dynamic, three-down running back that should flourish in Kellen Mooreā€™s offensive system while opening things up for A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert.

Falcons QB Kirk Cousins makes NFL Top 100 Players of 2024

NFL Top 100 Players of 2024: QB Kirk Cousins is the second Falcons player to make the cut

In 2023, Kirk Cousins was playing some of the best football of his career before suffering a midseason Achilles tear. This devastating injury ended Cousins’ six-year run with the Minnesota Vikings as he signed with the Atlanta Falcons over the offseason.

The veteran QB was one of the NFL’s biggest free-agent dominoes, landing in Atlanta with a $180 million contract. The team deserves credit for addressing its top roster need but expectations have been raised significantly. The Falcons need to go out and win the NFC South this season and Cousins needs to play well for that to happen.

On Monday night, Cousins became the second Falcons player to make the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2024 countdown. After offensive lineman Chris Lindstrom landed at No. 88, Cousins came in at No. 81:

In a year that saw seven starting quarterbacks sustain season-ending injuries, Cousins appeared in eight games before suffering a torn Achilles. The veteran QB finished his final season in Minnesota with 18 touchdowns, 2,331 passing yards and five interceptions before signing a whopping four-year deal with the Falcons as a free agent this offseason. With a new head coach and offensive coordinator behind him (and a rookie QB waiting in the wings), all eyes will be on Cousins this year. — Krissy Hetherington, NFL.com

The top 100 players countdown is currently airing on NFL+ but will replay on NFL Network starting on July 31. Cousins and Lindstrom weren’t exactly surprises, however, we’d expect to see at least one more Falcon on the list. Safety Jessie Bates had a monster season and will likely be the third player included in the top 100.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce voted No. 10 on NFL Top 100 Players list for 2022

#Chiefs TE Travis Kelce lands at the No. 10 spot on the NFL Top 100 Players list for 2022.

For the seventh consecutive season, Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce has been recognized by his NFL peers as one of the best players in the league.

The 2021 NFL season was Kelce’s highest ranking yet at No. 5, which was the top ranking by a tight end ever in NFL Top 100 Players list history. This year he slid a few spots down the list to No. 10, but he’s still the highest-ranked tight end in the league. Kelce has certainly come a long way since 2016 when he was the 91st-ranked player in the league according to his peers.

He is now the second Chiefs player to appear on the list, following defensive counterpart Chris Jones (who also slid a few spots from last year’s ranking). Kelce is one of just three Chiefs players to make the list this season along with Patrick Mahomes, who inches closer to the top spot.

“Trav is the best tight end in the NFL,” Eagles C Jason Kelce said. “He’s almost in some regards has this artistic savant-like mindset that is really suited for football.”

Kelce is coming off yet another dominant season, his sixth consecutive season with over 1,000 yards. He’s the only tight end to ever accomplish that achievement and continues to lift the position group to new heights with each passing season.

“It’s hard to even know what he’s doing on film,” Bills TE Dawson Knox said. “The way he sets up defenders. . .Ā  He’s like Picasso.”

DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett Snubbed from NFL Top 100 List

It is truly hard to envision an NFL where there are actually 100 better players than these two.

One of the final steps in each NFL offseason is the reveal of the coveted Top 100 Players list. As a celebration of the league’s best of the best, the Top 100 Players list showcases the remarkable talent across the NFL landscape. Of course, with every list, there are continued issues with ranking placement…Ā and glaring omissions.

Although the final top-20 players are yet to be ranked, their names have already been revealed, and as such, fans across the country now know who is and is not on the list. For Seattle there are two names missing:

Wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

For years now, Metcalf and Lockett have established themselves as two of the league’s best at the position. They are the reason Seattle has one of the most dynamic receiving duo’s of any team. The 2021 Seahawks may have fallen well short of their usually lofty expectations, but Lockett and Metcalf were among those who put forth outstanding seasons.

Metcalf may have finished the year with 75 receptions for “only” 967 yards, but he found the end zone 12 times. This trailed only rookie phenom Ja’Marr Chase, Mike Evans and Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp for most in the league.

As for Lockett, he posted his third-straight 1,000-yard season. The only other Seahawk to accomplish such a feat? Steve Largent. Not to mention his eight receiving touchdowns to go along with all the yards.

The biggest point worth mentioning here is the fact Lockett and Metcalf were able to do this without Russell Wilson throwing them the ball for a significant portion of the season. Wilson missed three games, but even during his return his finger injury was clearly hindering the quality of his play.

It is truly hard to envision an NFL where there are actually 100 better players than these two.

Kyle Pitts lands at No. 91 on NFL’s Top 100 players of 2022

Falcons TE Kyle Pitts was voted onto the #NFLTop100 players of 2022, coming in at No, 91.

The Atlanta Falcons knew what they were doing when they selected explosive tight end Kyle Pitts fourth overall back in 2021 — the highest a tight end has ever been drafted.

Pitts’ rookie year lived up to the hype as he caught 68 balls for 1,026 receiving yards and one touchdown. That early success impressed his peers, who voted Pitts onto the NFL Network’s top 100 players of 2022 countdown.

The former Florida Gators star landed at No. 91 on the list, one spot ahead of Cowboys LT Tyron Smith and one spot behind WR Odell Beckham Jr.

No matter how talented a player is, it’s tough for rookies to find early success in this league unless they’re really, really good.Ā  Pitts never shied away from the absurd expectations placed upon him during the draft process. He attended the Travis Kelce’s Tight End University summit two years in a row, showing a dedication to his craft right out of the gate.

Watch Pitts’ full top 100 players segment, as shared on the NFL’s official YouTube channel below.
