List of available cornerbacks heading into 2023 free agency

There will be plenty of talent for the Patriots to pick from at cornerback in free agency.

The New England Patriots could go in a bunch of different directions with the No. 14 overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft, but considering the current state of things, the cornerback position could use some serious help right now.

Of course, they could mitigate the chances of any desperation moves by going out and signing one of the many available free agent cornerbacks expected to hit the open market.

That list includes veteran corner Jonathan Jones, who could be on the verge of playing outside of New England for the first time in his career.

One thing is certain: The Patriots have other areas to address on the roster outside of cornerback, including offensive tackle and wide receiver. It would be a huge weight lifted if they managed to come away with a veteran playmaker, especially if they lose Jones.

Here are the available cornerbacks set to hit the market.

Latest Jakobi Meyers contract projection not good news for Patriots

The Patriots’ willingness to keep Jakobi Meyers will get tested in March.

Jakobi Meyers entering free agency at a time when there aren’t a lot of options is good news for the former undrafted rookie out of NC State. However, it could be bad news for the New England Patriots.

Meyers is likely to be the big-ticket free agent option in 2023 in an increasingly robust receiver market.

Sure, elite players like Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill could always reset the market with exorbitant contracts, but as ESPN’s Mike Reiss wisely pointed out on Sunday, players like Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Christian Kirk came away with a four-year, $72 million deal with $37 million in guaranteed money back in 2022. Meyers’ eventual contract this offseason could be comparable.

Reiss wrote:

“How a player’s market develops can often be unpredictable, and it takes only one team to blow it out of the water. But if Meyers ultimately lands a deal consistent with those of his ilk, he’ll be earning in the range of $15 million to $20 million per season.”

ESPN front office insider and former NFL executive Mike Tannenbaum’s recent statements regarding Meyers is reflective of Reiss’ breakdown. Tannenbaum claimed the value at the receiver position has “never been higher.”

“The wide receiver market has absolutely exploded. I think he’s going to do well,” said Tannenbaum, via Reiss.

The Patriots might be left with the decision of whether they value Meyers enough to offer up big money to keep him.

There’s no question that he’s been the team’s most productive player at the receiver position and Mac Jones’ favorite target. But if that money could be used to help land a true No. 1 option, while filling in the slot role through free agency or the draft, the Patriots might be better off letting Meyers walk.

Way too early look at where things stand with the Patriots’ impending 2023 free agents

Here’s a way too early look at where things stand with the Patriots’ impending 2023 free agents

Although the New England Patriots’ season is far from over, it’s always important to look ahead to the future, and the team currently has 20 free agents slated for 2023, with cornerback Myles Bryant being the only one restricted.

The Patriots went on a major spending spree in the 2021 offseason and are currently projected to have a little over $54 million to spend. However, there are some players on this list they’ll need to pay for.

Let’s take a look at their projected contracts and which players will most likely hit the open market in the spring.

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts working out with Titans WR A.J. Brown

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts works out with Tennesse Titans WR A.J. Brown

The Titans are looking to lock A.J. Brown up to a long-term deal, and as the disgruntled wide receiver looks to get paid, he’s perfecting his craft with the Eagles’ top signal-caller.

Brown and Hurts have been friends since high school and recently hooked up for some pass-catching work via Hurts’ Instagram story.

Hurts was in town for a celebration and likely continued his recruitment of the physical former Ole Miss wide receiver.

Brown is looking for a new deal from the Titans, as the former second-round pick and talented wide receiver is currently scheduled to make $3.986 million this season in the final year of his rookie contract.

Drafted by the Titans in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss, Brown had 52 catches for 1,051 yards and 8 touchdowns as a rookie.

In 2020, Brown logged 70 catches for 1,075 yards 11 touchdowns but saw his numbers drop in 2021, after the addition of Julio Jones.

In 2021, Brown logged 63 catches for 869-yards and 5 touchdowns in 13 games.

The Titans have repeatedly said they won’t trade Brown, as he sits out voluntary workouts in hopes of a new deal.

Jalen Hurts is already recruiting a potential 2023 free agent WR to Eagles

The Eagles were quiet on the wide receiver front in NFL free agency and if the team doesn’t add a wide receiver in the draft, then the 2023 offseason could provide an opportunity to add a dynamic playmaker.

A.J. Brown is looking for a new deal from the Titans, as the former second-round pick and talented wide receiver is scheduled to make $3.986 million this season in the final year of his rookie contract.

The Titans have talked about keeping Brown around long-term, but recently, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts playfully tried to recruit the soon-to-be free agent, but Brown was having none of it.

Hurts and Brown have a close relationship and the Eagles quarterback had previously said this about the Titans star.

“I tried to recruit him to Alabama. We’ve been very close ever since. He’s one of my best friends.”

Drafted by the Titans in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss, Brown had 52 catches for 1,051 yards and 8 touchdowns as a rookie.

In 2020, Brown logged 70 catches for 1,075 yards and 11 touchdowns but saw his numbers drop in 2021, after the addition of Julio Jones.
