Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett remains one of the best at his position in the game today, but some still have yet to recognize the immense benefits he brings to the field.

Patrik Walker of CBS Sports recently took a look around the NFC to scout the conference’s most underappreciated players and Lockett made the list for the Seahawks.

“Do Seahawks fans love Lockett? Yes, unequivocally, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the world truly understands just how devastating he can often be for opposing defenses,” Walker writes. “With all eyes on the future of DK Metcalf in Seattle, and having now seen Russell Wilson shipped away to the Denver Broncos, it’s looking more and more like Lockett’s offense going forward.”

“There isn’t much he can’t do from the aspect of explosiveness — always just one move away from blowing the lid off of an NFL contest,” Walker continues. “But there also feels like there’s a part of the football fanbase who thinks he’s a product of Wilson, and that is a view he can instantly change in 2022, if he can help either Geno Smith or Drew Lock put up numbers.”

Lockett will have more than ample opportunities to prove himself this season, regardless of who is passing him the ball.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll kicks off Pro Bowl Week at Orlando event

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll – who will also head the NFC roster – helped to kick off the 2020 Pro Bowl Week events in Orlando

The head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, as well as this year’s NFC roster, has arrived in Orlando ahead of the 2020 NFL Pro Bowl.

Carroll was joined by AFC coach John Harbarbaugh, the 2020 Legends Captains and local figures at Jones High School on Tuesday to welcome and officially kick off the Pro Bowl week of events.

Carroll and his staff were selected to coach the NFC team as the Seahawks finished the year with the best record in the conference to lose in the divisional round of the playoffs.

He will be joined by Seattle’s own signal-caller Russell Wilson and cornerback Shaquill Griffin, who has been called up as an alternate.

Carroll also confirmed linebacker Bobby Wagner would be sitting out Sunday’s game due to a knee injury.

The 2020 NFL Pro Bowl will be played on Sunday afternoon to wrap up the week. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. PT and the game can be seen on either ABC or ESPN and via a number of streaming services.

Marshon Lattimore backs out of 2020 Pro Bowl, citing injury

The 2020 Pro Bowl roster shook up when New Orleans Saints CB Marshon Lattimore backed out, bringing in Seattle Seahawks CB Shaquill Griffin.

New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore was initially named a starter on the NFC roster at this year’s Pro Bowl, but he declined an invitation to the game due to an injury. His replacement will be Seattle Seahawks cornerback Shaquill Griffin.

Lattimore missed time during the regular season with a hamstring issue, but he played 71 of 79 possible defensive snaps in the Saints’ playoffs loss to the wild-card Minnesota Vikings. It’s unclear what injury is keeping him out of the Pro Bowl, but he should be full-go when the team meets up again for workouts in the summer.

With Lattimore out of the picture, the NFC roster currently features 10 Saints players:

  • WR Michael Thomas (starter)
  • DE Cameron Jordan (starter)
  • KR Deonte Harris (starter)
  • K Wil Lutz (starter)
  • QB Drew Brees (backup)
  • LT Terron Armstead (backup)
  • TE Jared Cook (alternate)
  • LG Andrus Peat (alternate)
  • RG Larry Warford (alternate)
  • RB Alvin Kamara (alternate)

The Seahawks announced the change from their official public relations Twitter account:

New events added to Pro Bowl Skills Showdown this year

A number of new events have been added to this year’s Pro Bowl Skills Showdown at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando.

Before the 2020 Pro Bowl kicks off on Sunday, Jan. 26 from Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Pro Bowl players will be participating in a number of events throughout the week.

For the fourth year in a row, players will get to showcase their talents in the Pro Bowl Bowl Skills Showdown.

Here are the events for this year’s Skills Showdown, per NFL Communications:

  • Precision Passing presented by Skittles
  • Gridiron Gauntlet presented by Castrol EDGE
  • Best Hands presented by Intuit
  • Thread the Needle presented by Panini
  • Epic Pro Bowl Dodgeball presented by Old Spice

The Skills Showdown competition will take place on January 22 at ESPN Wide World of Sports, but will air the following day, on Thursday, Jan. 23 on ESPN at 6:00 p.m. PT.

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and linebacker Bobby Wagner were the only team members selected to the Pro Bowl this season. As the NFC team with the best record to lose in the divisional round of the playoffs, the Seahawks’ staff will be coaching the NFC roster.

Another one: Alvin Kamara added to NFC Pro Bowl roster

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara was chosen as an alternate for the 2020 Pro Bowl, joining ten teammates on the NFC roster.

The New Orleans Saints have again raised their total number of players on the 2020 NFC Pro Bowl roster, this time with running back Alvin Kamara. Kamara’s addition raises the small herd of Saints participating in the all-star game to eleven, which is again a new franchise record. It breaks previous high-water marks of nine and ten selections, each set this year with new alternates called up.

It’s not immediately clear who Kamara is filling in for — Dalvin Cook, Christian McCaffrey, and Ezekiel Elliott were each initially voted in, but none of them have yet publicly backed out. But it’ll be the third career Pro Bowl appearance in as many years for Kamara, who was selected outright in 2017 and chosen as an alternate in 2018. It’s anyone’s guess on what he’ll get into in Orlando; in last year’s game, Kamara convinced the NFC coaching staff to let him line up in a pass-rush package on defense, and very nearly sacked Deshaun Watson.

The full list of Saints participating in this year’s Pro Bowl stands as such, for now:

  • WR Michael Thomas (starter)
  • DE Cameron Jordan (starter)
  • CB Marshon Lattimore (starter)
  • KR Deonte Harris (starter)
  • K Wil Lutz (starter)
  • QB Drew Brees (backup)
  • LT Terron Armstead (backup)
  • TE Jared Cook (alternate)
  • LG Andrus Peat (alternate)
  • RG Larry Warford (alternate)
  • RB Alvin Kamara (alternate)

Pete Carroll, Seahawks staff to coach NFC roster in Pro Bowl

Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks staff will be coaching the NFC roster in the 2020 NFL Pro Bowl in Orlando on January 26.

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was likely hoping to square off against John Harbaugh and the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl in Miami this year, but the 2020 Pro Bowl in Orlando will have to do instead.

After falling to the Packers last Sunday to end their season, Carroll and his staff will be coaching the NFC squad in the exhibition matchup. Harbaugh and his crew will head the AFC team.

The NFC and AFC Pro Bowl coaches are represented by the staff from the teams with the best records who were eliminated in the divisional round of the playoffs.

“Really to see the caliber of the other players,” Carroll explained Monday of the opportunity. “I mean, we’ve been with our guys for six months. To have a chance to compare what these guys are capable of looking like. It’s not going to be the most intense preparation that we’ll ever go through. We’ll be around them. I’m looking forward to the game as much as anything.

“For comparison purposes, it’ll be good.”

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and linebacker Bobby Wagner – who may not participate due to injuries – were selected to this year’s Pro Bowl roster.

The Pro Bowl is set to kick off at 12:00 p.m. PT on January 26 from Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
