New York Rangers at Tampa Bay Lightning Game 6 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s New York Rangers at Tampa Bay Lightning Game 6 odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Rangers try to stave off elimination against the Tampa Bay Lightning Saturday in Game 6 of their Eastern Conference Finals playoff series. Tampa leads the series 3-2. Puck drop from Amalie Arena is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we look at the Rangers vs. Lightning Game 6 odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

Tampa really turned the tides of this series the last 2 games. They pulled off a 4-1 victory at home in Game 4 Tuesday and took the Rangers’ hearts with a 3-1 road victory Thursday. Tampa trailed 1-0 before tying it with under 3 minutes to go in the 2nd period. RW Ondrej Palat scored on a deflection with 1:50 to go in the game to take the lead, and the Lightning put in an empty-net goal to seal it less than a minute later.

That was the Rangers’ first home loss since Game 1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the opening round. Tampa lost its first home game in the playoffs too and has not lost on home ice since. Rangers C Mika Zibanejad doesn’t have a point in the last 2 games after snapping an 8-game point streak. That has to change if the Rangers want to force a Game 7.

  • Money line: Rangers +155 (bet $100 to win $155) | Lightning -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Rangers +1.5 (-170) | Lightning -1.5  (+133)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 5.5 (O: +120 | U: -150)

Rangers at Lightning projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (10-8, 2.62 GAA, .929 SV% – playoffs) vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy (11-5, 2.35 GAA, .927 SV%, 1 SO – playoffs)

Those chants of “Igor’s better” didn’t ring true in Game 5, but he was pretty good as he stopped 24 of 26 shots. He hasn’t allowed more than 3 goals in 15 straight postseason games, but he can’t score on the other end too.

Vassy has saved 86 of 90 shots his way in the last 3 games. He has been a little better than Shesterkin, and now his team is skating with supreme confidence. Vasilevskiy is 6-1 with a 1.79 GAA and .946 SV% at home in these playoffs.

Rangers at Lightning picks and predictions

Prediction

Lightning 3, Rangers 1

Money line

The books think this one is over with the -190 tag on Tampa. I really feel like the Rangers are stunned from the late heroics, and they’re staggering for the knockout blow. If this gets to overtime, all bets are off, though. Take LIGHTNING IN REGULATION (INCL. TIE) (-116).

Against the spread

Tampa has outscored the Rangers 7-2 in the last two meetings and have won 4 of 6 home wins by 2 or more goals. This is a game of momentum, and Tampa closes it out. I’d need more value than this to risk more than a half-unit, but take LIGHTNING -1.5 (+133).

Over/Under

There are all sorts of Under trends here, and these teams could just empty the tank so go lightly either way here. The Under has cashed in 4 in a row in this series. The Under is 4-0 in the last 4 Lightning were favored and favored at home. It has also cashed in the last 4 the Rangers were underdogs.

LEAN UNDER 5.5 (-150) or wait until the puck drops and place a live bet. LW Pat Maroon scored 2:38 into Game 4 in Tampa, though, so don’t get too greedy on the return you want.

New York Rangers at Tampa Bay Lightning Game 4 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s New York Rangers at Tampa Bay Lightning Game 4 odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning meet for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals Tuesday at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. The Rangers lead the series 2-1. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN/ESPN+). Below, we look at the Rangers vs. Lightning Game 4 odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Rangers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in Game 3 thanks to a pair of power-play goals in the second period by Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider. However, New York could not hold the lead, coughing up 3 unanswered goals.

The Lightning were staring into the abyss, down 2-0, and about to face a 3-0 series deficit. Nikita Kucherov struck for a power-play goal midway through the second, and Steven Stamkos managed a PPG in the third to tie things up and get the crowd back into it. Ondrej Palat then notched the game-winning goal with 42 seconds left to win 3-2.

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 7 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Rangers +145 (bet $100 to win $145) | Lightning -180 (bet $180 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Rangers +1.5 (-180) | Lightning -1.5 (+140)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 5.5 (O: +105 | U: -130)

Rangers at Lightning projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (10-6-0, 2.62 GAA, .930 SV% – postseason) vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy (9-5-0, 2.54 GAA, .922 SV%, 1 SO – postseason)

Shesterkin allowed 3 goals on 52 shots in Game 3 as he was under siege for most of the afternoon. The goal to Palat with less than a minute to go might stick with him, although that was the only even-strength goal he allowed in the entire game.

Vasilevskiy was hammered for 6 goals on 34 shots in Game 1 in New York, but he has yielded just 5 goals across the past two games on 58 shots. He allowed 2 or fewer goals in 6 of the previous 8 playoff games.

Rangers at Lightning picks and predictions

Prediction

Lightning 3, Rangers 1

Money line

The LIGHTNING (-180) are a little on the expensive side, and this is my limit for a money line play. But I am feeling the 2-time defending champs, and I think they’ll carry over the momentum from Palat’s late goal in Game 3 to even this series up.

Against the spread

The LIGHTNING -1.5 (+140) are worth a roll of the dice on the puck line. Tampa Bay has won 4 of its past 7 playoff games by just 1 goal, and it might take a late empty-net goal to secure the puck line win. But I think Vasilevskiy has his best showing of the series, notching a 2-2 series tie en route to a pivotal Game 5 back in Manhattan Thursday.

Over/Under

The UNDER 5.5 (-130) is a good play here. Shesterkin and Vasilevskiy have yet to have a low-scoring duel in this series. Sure, Games 2 and 3 each featured a total of 5 goals, but I think defense and goaltending is even better in this game, as high-danger chances will be at a premium as the intensity of the series ratchets to an all-time high.

New York Rangers at Tampa Bay Lightning Game 3 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s New York Rangers at Tampa Bay Lightning Game 3 odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Rangers fly high to face the Tampa Bay Lightning Sunday in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference Finals playoff series. New York leads the series 2-0. Puck drop from Amalie Arena is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we look at the Rangers vs. Lightning Game 3 odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Rangers have put on two clinics to jump out 2-0 in the series. They pushed the tempo offensively to score 6 goals in Game 1 and they locked it down defensively to finesse a 3-2 victory in Game 2. C Mika Zibanejad scored the game-winning goal Friday to extend his points streak to 7 games.

The Lightning scored within the first 3 minutes of Game 2, but they didn’t score again until the final 3 minutes of the game. This was the first time Tampa has lost consecutive postseason games in the last three postseasons. They did make a late push to make it 3-2 with an extra attacker on the ice but Rangers G Igor Shesterkin was fantastic in the final 90 seconds of the game to seal the victory.

Rangers at Lightning odds and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:43 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Rangers +135 (bet $100 to win $135) | Lightning -170 (bet $170 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Rangers +1.5 (-190) | Lightning -1.5  (+145)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 5.5 (O: +105 | U: -130)

Rangers at Lightning projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (10-5, 2.60 GAA, .929 SV% – playoffs) vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy (8-5, 2.58 GAA, .921 SV%, 1 SO – playoffs)

Shesterkin was awesome in the final 2 minutes of Game 2 as he made several tumbling saves to keep the Rangers ahead. He had 29 saves on 31 shots in the game and has allowed more than 2 goals once in his last 9 games. The road to the Cup goes through him, and it’ll be an uphill climb.

Vassy made 25 saves on 28 shots in Game 2, and he just hasn’t been as sharp after a 9-day layoff. The team in front of him hasn’t either. Vasilevskiy was 20-8-4 with a 2.23 GAA and .921 SV% at home during the regular season and he has been even better at home in the playoffs at 4-1 with a 1.90 GAA and .943 SV%.

Rangers at Lightning picks and predictions

Prediction

Lightning 4, Rangers 3

Money line

Things tightened up in Game 2, but Tampa didn’t have enough offense to break through. They are really tough to beat at home, and C Steven Stamkos felt like the momentum from the offensive pressure they put on in the final 2 minutes of Game 2 should carry over. We do, too. Tampa wins a close one to get back in the series. It’s very chalky, but we’ll take the LIGHTNING (-170).

Against the spread

One of our props hit in Game 2 as the Lightning scored first, but they didn’t quite make it over 2.5 goals. They will have to score 3 or more to win. I’m not a fan of either puck line as Tampa has yet to show up offensively. There is a special boosted odds mini-parlay I do like: A Storm is Coming: LIGHTNING TO WIN FIRST PERIOD AND THE MATCH (+200).

Over/Under

The Over cashed in Game 1, and the Under took care of business in Game 2. The Over has cashed once in the last 7 games for Tampa. The Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these teams in Tampa. The Rangers are rolling offensively, and Tampa is desperate. This feels like an Over game. LEAN OVER 5.5 (+105).

New York Rangers at Tampa Bay Lightning odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s New York Rangers at Tampa Bay Lightning odds, picks and prediction odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Rangers (19-8-4) visit the Tampa Bay Lightning (21-7-4) Friday at Amalie Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Rangers vs. Lightning odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Rangers returned to action after an 11-day hiatus with a 4-3 loss at the Florida Panthers Wednesday. The Blueshirts have won just one of the past five outings. New York has failed to pick up a win in five straight against teams with a winning overall record.

The Lightning were roughed up 9-3 at Florida Friday, as COVID-19 replacement goalies Maxime Lagace and Hugo Alnefelt allowed 9 goals on 37 shots. The good news is that head coach Jon Cooper returned, but several Lightning players remain on the COVID-19 list, including their top two goalies in Andrei Vasilevskiy and Brian Elliott.

Rangers at Lightning projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (13-4-2, 2.16 GAA, .934 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Hugo Alnefelt (0-0-0, 9.00 GAA, .700 SV%)

Shesterkin lost last time out, allowing 4 goals on 32 shots in the 4-3 loss at Florida to snap a five-start win streak. He is still 2-1-0 with a 1.84 GAA and .941 SV% in three December starts.

Alnefelt made a relief appearance at the Panthers in what was his NHL debut. He allowed 3 goals on 10 shots after Lagace coughed up 6 goals on 27 shots across the first two periods. For Tampa, Vasilevskiy and Elliott cannot test negative for COVID-19 soon enough.

Rangers at Lightning odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 5, Lightning 3

Money line

The RANGERS (+125) are worth a look as short dogs as they catch the Lightning at a good time. Tampa Bay gets their coach back and is starting to get a little healthier on offense. But as long as the Lightning are down to their two minor-league goaltenders, it’s going to be a tough road to hoe. See Thursday night in Florida.

Against the spread

The Rangers +1.5 (-230) will cost you more than two times your potential return if you’re looking for a little insurance and don’t trust them straight up. You should, though, as Shesterkin is a top-notch goaltender, and that’s the difference here.

PASS.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (+112) is a rather hefty number, but the Lightning replacement goaltenders coughed up 9 goals to the Panthers Friday, and now must return less than 24 hours to try it again. The Rangers have a fairly potent offense, and they should make life tough again for the defending champs.
