[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The New York Rangers (2-0-1) take on the Detroit Red Wings (1-2-0) Thursday. Puck drop from Little Caesars Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+ / Hulu). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Rangers vs. Red Wings odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Rangers lead 1-0

These teams meet for the back half of a home-and-home Thursday after the Rangers took care of business at their rink Monday with a 4-1 final. Rangers winger Chris Kreider lit the lamp for the 3rd time this season, and C Mika Zibanejad scored his 1st of the season.

Red Wings C Dylan Larkin had the lone goal Monday as he lit the lamp for the 2nd time this season. The Wings have yet to really get their offense going as they were downed 6-3, won 3-0 and were defeated 4-1 in the early going. Their goaltending situation is also in flux with them exposing Ville Husso to waivers to be sent down. It’s still very early, and they’ve had a brutal schedule to open the season. Things should settle in soon.

Rangers at Red Wings projected goalies

Jonathan Quick (18-6-2, 2.62 GAA, .911 SV%, 2 SO last season) vs. Cam Talbot (1-0-0, 1.27 GAA, .964 SV%, 1 SO)

Quick was 2-0-0 with a 3.01 GAA and .903 SV% against the Wings last season. The 38-year-old vet stopped 56 of 62 shots fired his way. This will be his first action of the season, and he was phenomenal early last year with a 0.41 GAA in 3 October games.

Speaking of phenomenal, Talbot stopped all 42 shots the Nashville Predators sent his way Saturday. If that doesn’t do it for ya, he’s 5th in the league with 3.9 goals saved above expected, despite starting just 1 game. He hasn’t faced the Rangers since ’22-23, and he was 2-1-0 with a 2.64 GAA and .916 SV%.

Rangers at Red Wings picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Wings 3, Rangers 2

Moneyline

The Rangers have won 4 straight meetings, and they have 92% of the cash on them. However, I’m going with the home side. They don’t have to contend with G Igor Shesterkin, and Talbot is cooking something serious between the pipes. The Wings came up just short in this scenario last April in a 4-3 final. I look for a low-scoring affair with the RED WINGS +125 coming out ahead.

Puck line/Against the spread

Puck line, schmuck line. I’m going with CAM TALBOT OVER 26.5 SAVES (-120). The Rangers are 2nd in the league with 34 shots on goal per game.

Over/Under

I truly could see this going either way, but shooters shoot. I look for Talbot to make a stand and keep the Rangers under 3 goals. The Wings haven’t exactly been lighting the twine ablaze either, scoring just 7 goals in 3 games.

Take the UNDER 6.5 (-115).

New York Rangers at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing New York Rangers at Detroit Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The New York Rangers (51-21-4) play their 2nd-to-last regular-season road game Friday night against the Detroit Red Wings (37-30-8). Puck drop at Little Caesars Arena is scheduled for 7:09 p.m. ET (ESPN+).  Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Rangers vs. Red Wings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

This is the 3rd matchup between these teams this season, with the 1st 2 coming at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers cashed as a -144 favorite winning 5-3 on Nov. 7, and followed it up on Nov. 29 with a 3-2 victory as a -210 favorite.

New York enters Friday with the most points in the NHL (106), although both Carolina (+320) and Florida (+320) have shorter odds to win the Eastern Conference than New York (+450). LW Artemi Panarin leads the team in points (110), good for 4th-most in the NHL.

The Red Wings got a much-needed win on April 1 over Tampa Bay, cashing as a +150 underdog as they snapped a 4-game losing streak. Entering Friday, Detroit possesses a 45.3% chance to make the postseason according to Moneypuck. Captain C Dylan Larkin, who recorded 2 assists over the Bolts believes his team is “building their game” down the stretch.

Rangers at Red Wings projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (33-16-2, 2.65 GAA, .911 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Alex Lyon (19-16-4, 3.00 GAA, .907 SV%, 2 SO)

Shesterkin helped the Rangers earn a 4-3 victory over New Jersey  Wednesday, stopping 17 of 20 shots he faced. The 28-year-old took the loss against Pittsburgh on Monday, allowing 3 goals in a 5-3 loss that saw him get into a bit of a tussle with Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.

Lyon’s victory over Tampa was his 1st in 11 starts, a stretch that saw him go 0-8-2 since late February. This year’s Masterton Trophy nominee (awarded for  perseverance and sportsmanship) has played in 39 games this year, double his career total.

Rangers at Red Wings picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 3, Red Wings 2

Moneyline

BET RANGERS (-146).

You are what your record says you are which makes the Blue Shirts the best team in the NHL. This should be a good matchup between a couple of Original 6 teams, not to mention that RW Patrick Kane should be itching for some revenge after last year’s disappointing tenure with New York. Detroit is bottom 5 in the league in shots on goal, including rebound shots and higher danger chances, so I do not expect them to be able to keep up with the Rangers.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

Not interested in fading the Rangers.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6.5 (-134).

Only the Carolina Hurricanes have allowed fewer power-play goals (34) than New York (35) so if Detroit gets the man advantage, D Jacob Trouba and the Rangers PK unit should be able to protect Shesterkin. Plus, despite 11 giveaways vs. New Jersey, the Rangers have allowed the 2nd-least number of giveaways this season in the Eastern Conference (420), so that is another avenue the Red Wings may not have to score.

New York Rangers at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s New York Rangers at Detroit Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Rangers (33-15-9) meet the Detroit Red Wings (27-21-8) Thursday at Little Caesars Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Rangers vs. Red Wings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Rangers have followed up a 7-game win streak with a pair of losses at Calgary (3-2, Saturday) and home against Winnipeg (4-1, Monday). New York scored just 3 goals in those 2 outings, cashing the Under twice after a 6-0 run to the Over.

The Red Wings picked up a 3-1 road win against the Washington Capitals Tuesday, and Detroit has won 6 of the past 7 games overall. The Over is 4-1-1 in the past 6 games, with the offense averaging 4.3 goals per game.

Rangers at Red Wings projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (25-9-7, 2.59 GAA, .912 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Ville Husso (22-13-5, 2.90 GAA, .905 SV%, 3 SO)

Shesterkin has really struggled in February, allowing 3 or more goals in each of his 5 starts. While he has a 4-1-0 record, the All-Star has managed just a 3.54 GAA and .865 SV% across that span.

Husso turned aside all but 1 of the 27 shots he faced last time out in Washington, and he has won 5 of the past 6 starts overall. He has posted a 5-2-0 record, 2.43 GAA and .924 SV% in 7 February outings.

Rangers at Red Wings picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Wings 4, Rangers 3

Moneyline

The RED WINGS (+140) are a strong play at Little Caesars Arena for this Original Six battle.

While the Rangers have won 7 of the past 9 games overall, and 11 of the past 16 road games, they face another red-hot team. The Wings have won 6 of the past 7 games overall and are 5-1 in the past 6 outings when playing on a day of rest.

Puck line/Against the spread

The RED WINGS +1.5 (-180) are a little pricey, but it’s still right at my personal limit for a standalone bet.

Detroit has covered the puck line in 5 of the past 6 games as an underdog, and 6 of the past 7 games overall. Still, the better value is playing Detroit straight up.

Over/Under

The OVER 6.5 (+100) is a solid value at plus money.

Shesterkin has conceded 3 or more goals in 6 straight starts dating back to Jan. 23. Husso has been a little less giving, but he has allowed 4 or more goals in 2 of the past 3 outings.

The Over is 6-2 in the past 8 games for the Rangers and is 4-1-1 in the past 6 outings for the Red Wings. The Over is 3-1-1 in the past 5 for Detroit against teams with a winning overall mark, too.

New York Rangers at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s New York Rangers at Detroit Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Rangers (6-5-3) head to the Motor City to take on the Detroit Red Wings (7-3-3) Thursday at Little Caesars Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Rangers vs. Red Wings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Rangers have lost 3 straight games, 1 of which was to these same Red Wings by a 3-2 mark in overtime at Madison Square Garden Sunday. They’ve been in each of the games, but they just haven’t been able to break through at crucial moments. LW Artemi Panarin (4 goals, 15 assists) is tied for 5th in the league with 19 points.

The Red Wings have won 3 of their last 4 games and 4 of their last 6. They are in 2nd place in the Atlantic Division on the heels of some great goaltending. The moves they made in the offseason have really solidified their roster. LW Dominik Kubalik was a quiet move, and he leads the team with 6 goals and 10 assists.

Rangers at Red Wings projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (6-2-2, 2.58 GAA, .910 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Ville Husso (5-1-2, 1.86 GAA, .941 SV%, 2 SO)

Shesterkin has hit a rough patch, losing 2 straight at home and allowing 4 goals in each. He was great against Detroit last season, although the Red Wings are vastly improved this year. Shesterkin went 1-0-1 with a 0.96 GAA and .962 SV% over 2 starts vs. Detroit in 2021-22.

Husso has been masterful in his new uniform as he’s 2nd in GAA and 3rd in SV% in the entire league. He’s 2-0-1 with a 0.97 GAA and .967 SV% in 3 November starts.  He was 1-1-0 with a 3.08 GAA and .895 SV% in 2 starts against the Rangers last season.

Rangers at Red Wings picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Wings 4, Rangers 2

Moneyline

I expect a concerted effort from the Rangers, but Detroit gets it done at home, where it is 5-1-2. New York simply isn’t scoring enough, and they appear to have a lack of cohesiveness on the ice right now.

Take DETROIT (+125).

Puck line/Against the spread

This will require an empty-netter, but I like Detroit to secure a 2-goal victory. Five of Detroit’s 7 wins on the season have been by 2 or more. Four of Husso’s 5 wins have been by 2 or more. Let’s take a chance and drop a HALF-UNIT on the ALTERNATE SPREAD RED WINGS -1.5 (+310).

Over/Under

The Over is 4-1 in the Rangers’ last 5 vs. a team with a winning record. There are a lot of Under trends for Detroit, but honestly, throw those out of the window. This is a playoff-caliber team if they remain healthy. It’s possible it could be a 2-1 nailbiter, but Detroit has posted 3 goals in 4 of its last 5 contests. Again, it’ll probably require an empty-netter, but LEAN OVER 5.5 (-135).

New York Rangers at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s New York Rangers at Detroit Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Rangers (43-19-5) face off against the Detroit Red Wings (26-32-8) Wednesday at Little Caesars Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Rangers vs. Red Wings odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Rangers are on fire as winners of 5 of the last 6, including a 3-2 victory in Pittsburgh Tuesday. We nailed that one as the Rangers entered at +145 on the money line and stole the road win. They’ll be on the back end of a back-to-back on the road, and this is their seventh game in 11 days.

The Red Wings probably can’t wait to hit the ice and forget Sunday even happened as they were clubbed, 11-3, by the Pittsburgh Penguins. They have won just 2 of their last 10.

Rangers at Red Wings odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 3:12 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Rangers -140 (bet $140 to win $100) | Red Wings +115 (bet $100 to win $115)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Rangers -1.5 (-170) | Red Wings +1.5 (-230)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -135 | U: -100)

Rangers at Red Wings projected goalies

Alexandar Georgiev (10-9-2, 3.08 GAA, .894 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Alex Nedeljkovic (17-20-7, 3.26 GAA, .901 SV%, 2 SO)

Georgiev survived a 5-4 overtime scare Sunday against the lowly Buffalo Sabres his last time out. He made just 13 saves on 17 shots in the game. That’s a far cry from shutting out the first-place Carolina Hurricanes March 20 when he stopped 44 shots.

Nedeljkovic started the laugher against the Penguins and coughed up the first 7 goals before hitting the showers. If you take out Sunday’s massacre, he has a solid .908 SV% on a bad team this month. He did not play in the game against the Rangers last month.

[tipico]

Rangers at Red Wings odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Wings 4, Rangers 3

Money line

The Red Wings stunned the Rangers last month in a 3-2 win via shootout. And that was against Vezina Trophy front runner Igor Shesterkin. This time they have added motivation and newly acquired C Oskar Sundqvist in tow. Sunny has two goals, an assist and is a plus-1 in four games since he was acquired from the St. Louis Blues.

This feels like a trap game, and the Red Wings are rested and angry. LEAN RED WINGS +115  for the upset.

Against the spread

Both teams are decent on the puck line as the Rangers are 20-16 against it on the road, and the Red Wings are 17-17 against it at home. The Red Wings offer no insurance in the event their upset plans come undone at +1.5 (-230). So we’re going to STEER CLEAR  of this one even though it may be a safe bet to side with Detroit.

Over/Under

I don’t like taking 6.5 Overs, but this one makes some sense. The first game ended 3-2 with the Rangers’ top goalie in net. This one features a leaky backup and an angry team that just saw the lamp light up so much that Pittsburgh may raise ticket prices to cover the electric bill. The Rangers are 6-4 O/U in thelast 10 games while the Red Wings are 6-3-1 O/U. The Over is also 8-1 in the last 9 at Little Caesars Arena. Let’s put up a half-unit on the OVER 6.5 (-135).
