New York Rangers at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s New York Rangers at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Rangers (18-6-3) visit the Colorado Avalanche (16-7-2) Tuesday at Ball Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Rangers vs. Avalanche odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Rangers were dropped 1-0 at home against the Nashville Predators  Sunday. New York has had a power outage lately, totaling just five goals across the past three outings.

The Avalanche just roughed up the Rangers 7-3 at MSG last Wednesday, now they get the Blueshirts at home. Colorado has won four straight, averaging 6.0 goals per contest during the win streak.

Rangers at Avalanche projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (13-3-2, 2.05 GAA, .937 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Darcy Kuemper (12-5-0, 2.82 GAA, .906 SV%)

Shesterkin enters on a five-game win streak, allowing just four total goals during the impressive run. He has allowed three or fewer goals in nine consecutive appearances, too.

Kuemper enters with a perfect 3-0-0 record, 2.69 GAA and .920 SV% in three starts in December, including a 26-save win against the Rangers in New York Dec. 8.

Rangers at Avalanche odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Rangers 2

Money line

The Avalanche (-205) aren’t losing this one to the struggling Rangers, but risking more than two times your potential return is just a little too steep for my liking.

AVOID, and look to the puck line instead.

Against the spread

The AVALANCHE -1.5 (+110) is a much better value at plus-money on home ice. Colorado has won four in a row, including three wins by two or more goals. And in 12 of its past 13 wins dating back to Oct. 30, Colorado has covered the puck line. If you like the Avs to win, you should also like them laying the goal-and-a-half.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-135) is the lean, as the Rangers have struggled to light the lamp lately. The Avalanche, they have not had any offensive issues, but facing Shesterkin presents a great challenge, as he has been standing on his head and single-handedly been keeping the Blueshirts in games.
