The New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes meet in Game 6 of a best-of-7 Eastern Conference, 2nd-round-series Thursday. The Rangers lead the series 3-2. Puck drop from PNC Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (TNT).  Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Rangers vs. Hurricanes odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Hurricanes staved off elimination once again Monday, defeating New York 4-1 at Madison Square Garden in Game 5. The Rangers led 1-0 after 40 minutes, but Carolina responded with goals from C Jordan Staal, C Evgeny Kuznetsov and LW Jordan Martinook, as well as RW Martin Necas who scored on an empty net.

Former Hurricanes C Vincent Trocheck leads New York with 5 goals during the postseason, with LW Chris Kreider, LW Alexis Lafreniere, and LW Artemi Panarin tied in 2nd with 4 goals each.

C Sebastian Aho enters Game 6 with the Carolina team lead in points (10), and all have come at even strength. Aho is 6th all-time in goals scored (26) amongst Finnish players in Stanley Cup Playoff history.

Rangers at Hurricanes projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (7-2, 2.33 GAA, .924 SV%) vs. Frederik Andersen (6-3, 2.46 GAA, .902 SV%)

Shesterkin stopped 24 shots Monday and allowed 3 or more goals for a 2nd straight game (4th time this series). He has started all 36 playoff games for the Rangers in the past 3 years.

Andersen stopped 20 of 21 shots in Game 5, and the only goal he allowed was shorthanded to Rangers captain D Jacob Trouba. The 34-year-old has started 9 of 10 games for Carolina this postseason, getting Game 3 off in place of G Pyotr Kochetkov, as coach Rod Brind’Amour believed Freddy needed rest after the Rangers’ double-OT loss in Game 2.

Rangers at Hurricanes picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 4, Hurricanes 3

Moneyline

BET RANGERS (+140).

These teams are so evenly matched that I would much rather take the plus money on the road team with the superior goaltender.

C Mika Zibanejad, the playoff points leader (13) for the Rangers, was held off the scoresheet for the 1st time this postseason in Game 5. That snapped an 8-game assist streak to start the playoffs, and only Bobby Orr in 1972 had a longer assist streak (11 games).

With Kreider potentially not 100%, expect the 31-year-old Zibanejad to elevate his game and lead his team to the Eastern Conference Final.

 Puck line/Against the spread

Consider including Rangers +1.5 (-192) in a parlay.

Laying (-192) on the Blueshirts +1.5 as a single bet is too much. However, if you are into building parlays, pairing the Rangers +1.5 (-192) with the Florida Panthers (-154 at Boston Bruins, Friday at 7 p.m. ET) pays out +151 and provides a 2-night sweat.

Over/Under

BET OVER 5.5 (+100).

Carolina has attempted the most shots on goal in the playoffs (285) while also netting the most rebound goals (3) amongst Eastern Conference teams. Four of the 5 games in this series have been 1-goal games, so the potential for OT is certainly there, as is the possibility of empty-net goals with Carolina’s season on the line.

New York Rangers at Carolina Hurricanes Game 4 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s New York Rangers at Carolina Hurricanes odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Rangers battle the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 4 of a best-of-7 Eastern Conference 2nd-round series Saturday. Puck drop from PNC Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s  lines around the Rangers vs. Hurricanes odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

New York is in total control of the series after beating Carolina 3-2 Thursday to win its 9th game in a row and cover as a +134 road underdog. LW Alexis Lafreniere and LW Artemi Panarin each had a goal and an assist while Panarin scored the game-winner.

After a relatively easy 1st round for the Hurricanes, they have their backs up against the wall after losing 3 games in a row and failing to cover as -149 home favorites on Thursday. LW Jake Guentzel and RW Andrei Svechnikov each scored while Svechnikov also added an assist in the loss.

Rangers at Hurricanes projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (36-17-2, 2.58 GAA, .913 SV%, 4 SO) vs. Pyotr Kochetkov (23-13-4, 2.33 GAA, .911 SV%, 4 SO)

Shesterkin has been one of the top goalies in the NHL this season and has continued his dominance into the postseason. He has been in net for the Rangers in each postseason game and has only allowed 8 goals through 3 games against Carolina.

While Frederik Andersen had been in net for the first 2 games of the series, Kochetkov was the goalie in Game 3. His 2.33 GAA during the regular season was the 2nd-best in the NHL. He gave up 3 in Game 3 but is expected to start again Saturday.

Prediction

Hurricanes 4, Rangers 3

Moneyline

BET HURRICANES (-145).

While the Rangers have yet to lose in this postseason, they have won back-to-back games against Carolina via overtime. With its backs against the wall and in front of its home crowd, Carolina will come out with an extra boost Saturday. The Hurricanes will need a big game defensively to stop a New York team that has not scored less than 3 goals in any game in its last 9 overall.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

The value is better on the Hurricanes moneyline.

Over/Under

BET OVER 5.5 (-105).

The Over has hit in 2 of the 3 games this series and 4 of the Rangers last 6. They have scored 4 goals in 6 of their last 8 games while allowing 3 in 2 of their last 3. Carolina has scored 3 or more in 3 of its last 4 and 8 of its last 10 and 5 or more in 2 of its last 3 at home.

New York Rangers at Carolina Hurricanes Game 3 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s New York Rangers at Carolina Hurricanes odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes meet in Game 3 of a best-of-7 Eastern Conference, 2nd-round series Thursday. The Rangers lead 2-0. Puck drop from PNC Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rangers vs. Hurricanes odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Rangers picked up a 4-3 win as short ‘dogs (+101) in Game 1 as the Over (5.5) cashed. New York had to work a little harder in Game 2, going to double-overtime, before winning 4-3, also with an Over (5.5) result. New York cashed as the underdog (+106) in Game 2, as well.

The Hurricanes have gotten themselves into trouble with penalties. Carolina led 3-2 going into the 3rd period in Game 2, but it allowed a Chris Kreider power-play goal at 6:07 of the final period, and then Vincent Trocheck, a former Cane, notched the winner at 7:24 of 2OT on the man advantage, after Brady Skjei‘s cross-checking infraction.

New York has won 9 of the past 11 meetings in this series, it won the past 4 playoff battles with Carolina, and it is 5-1 in the past 6 meetings (regular season or postseason). New York has also won 4 straight trips to PNC Arena, including Game 7 of the 2022 second-round playoff series.

Hurricanes at Rangers projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (6-0-0, 2.01 GAA, .929 SV% in 2024 playoffs) vs. Frederik Andersen (4-3-0, 2.58 GAA, .899 SV% in 2024 playoffs)

Shesterkin turned aside 54 of the 57 shots he faced in the Game 2 marathon, and he has stopped 76 of the 82 shots he has seen in this series. The Rangers backstop has gone 13 consecutive games since March 26 in the regular season, allowing 3 or fewer goals.

Andersen allowed 4 goals in Game 1, his most since the second regular-season game at Los Angeles back in early October. Now, he has yielded 4 goals in each of the past 2 playoff games. He has to be much better, or the Canes won’t be long for this series.

Hurricanes at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Hurricanes 3, Rangers 2

Moneyline

The Hurricanes (-165) have struggled over the years with the Rangers (+140), dropping 9 of the past 11 meetings. New York is the kryptonite for Rod Brind’Amour’s bunch.

The Canes have gotten themselves into trouble with penalties, and they’ll have to be a lot more disciplined. Carolina is too risky to play at this price, given the domination of New York in the past couple of years. But a couple of bounces, and some smarter play, and the Canes could easily have gained a road split at MSG.

It’s not like the Rangers have dominated. But, they have done enough to win, and that’s what matters in the playoffs.

PASS.

Puck line/Against the spread

The RANGERS +1.5 (-185) are a little on the expensive side, but the way they have played against the Hurricanes -1.5 (+150) for the past 2-plus seasons, they’re the play.

New York won the first 2 games as an outright underdog, and it won 1-0 in the most recent skate at PNC Arena in the regular season. The underdog has cashed in 11 straight meetings in this series, too.

Over/Under

UNDER 5.5 (-110) is a risk, quite frankly, as we had exactly 7 goals in each of the first 2 games.

However, as the series treads along, these teams build hate for each other, the offensive chances will get fewer and further between, the physicality, hitting and rough stuff will pick up, and the goaltending will be much better, too.

New York Rangers at Carolina Hurricanes odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s New York Rangers at Carolina Hurricanes odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The New York Rangers (42-18-4) take on the Carolina Hurricanes (39-19-6) Tuesday at PNC Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rangers vs. Hurricanes odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Rangers defeated the New Jersey Devils 3-1 Monday night. C Mika Zibanejad scored his 20th goal in the game, which gave him 7 straight seasons of 20+ lamp illuminations. The Rangers are 7-2-1 over their last 10 and are 4 points ahead of Carolina atop the Metropolitan Division.

The Canes are roaring after a 7-2 dousing of the Calgary Flames Sunday. C Sebastian Aho (25th) and LW Teuvo Teravainen (21st) each had goals to go with 2 assists in the game. Teravainen has 4 goals in his last 5 games and is now just 2 away from his career high of 23. The Canes have won 3 in a row and are also 7-2-1 over their last 10.

Rangers at Hurricanes projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (27-13-2, 2.60 GAA, .912 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Pyotr Kochetkov (17-11-3, 2.39 GAA, .910 SV%, 3 SO)

Shesterkin stopped all 26 shots in a shutout over the St. Louis Blues Saturday. He hasn’t allowed more than 3 goals in a game since the Stadium Series game Feb. 18, spanning 7 starts. He had 1 good start and 1 clunker against Carolina this year. He stopped 26 of 27 in a 2-1 win Nov. 2 and allowed 6 goals on 27 shots in a 6-1 defeat Jan. 2.

Kochetkov stopped 23 of 25 shots in a 4-2 win over New Jersey Saturday. He allowed 4 goals to Winnipeg in his start before that, but he hasn’t allowed 3+ goals in a game in 14 of 15 starts. He was between the pipes Jan. 2 in the 6-1 victory over the Rangers, stopping 28 of 29.

Rangers at Hurricanes picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 2, Hurricanes 1

Moneyline

These are 2 evenly matched teams. This really should be more of a pick ’em, but the Rangers are playing on consecutive nights. Carolina is 21-8-4 at home, and the Rangers are good on the road at 19-10-4. Each team is 7-2-1 in the last 10, and they’re both receiving great goaltending. They’ve met twice this season, both in New York, and each team came away victorious.

The Rangers have actually won 3 straight in this building and are 7-3 over the last 10 meetings against Carolina. I’ll take the value here and roll with the RANGERS +140.

Puck line/Against the spread

The puck line is too expensive for the Rangers, which means we look to the props lineup.

RW Andrei Svechnikov has goals in 3 straight games, and he netted 2 against the Rangers in the last meeting. I’m pegging this one to be a low-scoring affair that may require overtime, but if you have a free bet, his anytime goal price is nice at +195.

Take ANDREI SVECHNIKOV OVER 2.5 SHOTS (-150). He’s feeling it and has landed 3 shots on goal in 5 of 7.

Over/Under

Both teams are 3-7 O/U over the last 10, and the last 3 meetings between the squads went Under this total. This figures to be a grind-it-out game. Both teams possess great power plays and penalty kills. So I expect a lot of 5-on-5 in this one.

Take the UNDER 6 (-120).

New York Rangers at Carolina Hurricanes odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s New York Rangers at Carolina Hurricanes odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Rangers (41-20-10) travel to meet the Carolina Hurricanes (46-15-8) Thursday for the second end of a home-and-home set. Puck drop from PNC Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Rangers vs. Hurricanes odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Rangers picked up a 1-0 lead late in the 1st period at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday against the Hurricanes thanks to C Tyler Motte. Carolina’s D Jalen Chatfield, a.k.a. “Chat-man-do”, leveled things 1-1 midway through the 3rd period, before RW Kaapo Kakko restored the lead for the home side just 31 seconds later.

However, just 18 seconds later, RW Stefan Noesen evened things up at 2-2, before RW Teuvo Teravainen quieted the crowd with just 2:33 left in regulation to make it 3-2. Now, what will Part Deux bring in Raleigh?

Carolina reached 100 points in 69 games with the victory, the fewest games they’ve needed to do so in team history. It sits 2 points clear of the New Jersey Devils with 2 games in hand in the Metropolitan Division, while leading the 3rd-place Rangers by 8 points, also with 2 games in hand.

Rangers at Hurricanes projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (32-12-7, 2.58 GAA, .913 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Pyotr Kochetkov (11-6-5, 2.38 GAA, .909 SV%, 4 SO)

Shesterkin allowed 3 goals on 39 shots in Tuesday’s 3-2 loss against the Hurricanes, snapping a 5-start win streak in the process. He is still 6-2-0 with a 2.22 GAA and .927 SV% with 1 SO in 8 starts in March.

The rookie Kochetkov coughed up 5 goals on just 24 shots in his most recent appearance last Friday at the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 23-year-old turned aside all 19 shots he faced against the Philadelphia Flyers on March 9 in his most recent home start.

Rangers at Hurricanes picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 3, Hurricanes 2

Moneyline

The RANGERS (+120) blew it on home ice, but New York should be able to snap right back on track against the Hurricanes in Raleigh.

The Blueshirts won’t be fazed about what happened Tuesday in a late collapse, and it won’t be fazed by the raucous crowd down south. The Rangers pounded the Hurricanes 6-2 in North Carolina on Feb. 11, and it will get the victory here, avenging the loss in the front end of the home-and-home set.

Despite Tuesday’s loss, the Rangers are still 38-16 in the past 54 meetings with the Hurricanes and the underdog is also 4-0 in the previous 4 in this series, so look for the Blueshirts to get it done.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Rangers +1.5 (-220) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return, and that’s quite expensive for a little bit of insurance. If you like New York to win, just play it straight up.

PASS.

Over/Under

The UNDER 5.5 (+105) is worth playing lightly at plus money, but go with a half-unit play at most.

The Under is 6-1-1 in Carolina’s last 8 games at home and is 6-2-1 in its last 9 games against teams with a winning record.

The Under is 5-2 in the past 7 games overall for the Rangers and 3-1-1 in their last 5 on the road. The Under came through in Tuesday’s meeting, too.

New York Rangers at Carolina Hurricanes Game 2 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s New York Rangers at Carolina Hurricanes Game 2 odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Rangers try again to steal home ice from the Carolina Hurricanes Friday in Game 2 of their best-of-7 Eastern Conference semifinal series. Carolina leads 1-0 after taking Wednesday’s opener 2-1 in overtime. Puck drop for Game 2 from PNC Arena is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we look at the Rangers vs. Hurricanes Game 2 odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

Things looked bleak for the ‘Canes late in Game 1 before C Sebastian Aho tied it at 1-all with just 2:23 to go in regulation. It wasn’t long before D Ian Cole sent the crowd home happy with the game-winner 3:12 into the extra frame. His shot from the point deflected off a Rangers player’s stick and redirected into the net.

Carolina started slow, while the Rangers were aggressive early outshooting the ‘Canes 23-14 in the first 2 periods. But Carolina found a way to get it done. It was a clean game as each side went 0-for-1 on the power play. Carolina tallied 40 hits to New York’s 31.

How will the Rangers respond knowing they had Game 1 in hand?

New York LWs Artemi Panarin and Chris Kreider were kept quiet with just 3 shots on goal and a -1 between them. They will need to be more involved for the Rangers to steal Game 2 – a tough task considering Carolina is 5-0 on home ice these playoffs.

Rangers at Hurricanes odds and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 1:56 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Rangers +140 (bet $100 to win $140) | Hurricanes -175 (bet $175 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Rangers +1.5 (-190) | Hurricanes -1.5 (+145)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 5.5 (O: +100 | U: -125)

Rangers at Hurricanes projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (4-3, 3.42 GAA, .911 SV% – this postseason) vs. Antti Raanta (4-2, 2.13 GAA, .933 SV% – this postseason)

Shesterkin had his best game in the playoffs since the 79-save, triple-overtime nightmare that was Game 1 in the first round against Pittsburgh. But the Rangers still lost this opener, and he really has struggled outside of these two games. You have to wonder where his confidence level is. Shesterkin was 0-2 with a 3.63 GAA and .883 SV% against Carolina in the regular season.

Raanta has now given up just 5 goals in 5 playoff home games for a ridiculous .962 SV%. He was vastly better at home during the season, too, with a 10-2-1 record, 2.06 GAA and .924 SV% vs. 5-3, 2.87 GAA and .900 SV% on the road. He didn’t face the Rangers in the regular season.

[tipico]

Rangers at Hurricanes picks and predictions

Prediction

Hurricanes 3, Rangers 2

Money line

There’s two ways to look at this. The Rangers came really close to stealing Game 1, and they can use that momentum to shift the tides in Game 2. The ‘Canes also mustered up enough guile to squeeze by after a slow start and could continue to roll.

With the quality of goaltending they’re getting, and how great they have been at home all season, we’re going with HURRICANES (-175) for a FULL UNIT.

Against the spread

I prefer the Rangers +1.5 (-190) here, but there’s no way we’re risking that much. Conversely, the ‘Canes haven’t been potent enough to trust on the puck line. So, we’ll PASS there.

I would go lightly on the HURRICANES IN REGULATION (-107) for a decent value. In their 4 previous home wins, Carolina outscored Boston 18-6 with no OT games.

Over/Under

PASS.

This one can go either way as Carolina put up 5 goals on Boston 3 times at home in the last series. The Over 5.5 (+100) presents some value at even money, and I would take that if I were forced to choose.

If anything, let the puck drop and see if someone scores early to get a chance to take an “in-game line” of Under 6.5.
