The start time for 76ers-Knicks’ Game 6 has hoops fans livid with the NBA schedulers

*yells at the sky incoherently*

After 76ers star Tyrese Maxey nearly stunned the entire basketball world with a shot for the ages to win Game 5 against the Knicks, fans are being “rewarded” with a wild start time for Game 6. That decision has so many people questioning why a must-see game would start so late and has them dropping a ton of relatable sleep jokes.

Look, I love basketball a lot. There have been plenty of times when I’ve stayed up to all kinds of unholy hours watching some incredible game that I simply can’t turn off. But at some point, my shut-down mode kicks in, and that wonderful game will be watching me.

Apparently, I’m not the only one who feels that way because there are a whole lot of hoops fans who are beside themselves about Game 6 between the Sixers and the Knicks starting at 9 p.m. ET.

The start time is inspiring some incredible tweets and jokes. Please look at this mastery from X (formerly Twitter):

Tracy Morgan and Ben Stiller were as angry as all Knicks fans after the incredible Tyrese Maxey shot

Tracy Morgan and Ben Stiller represented all of New York on this play.

76ers star guard Tyrese Maxey hit an unbelievable shot against the Knicks that devastated New York fans, including Tracy Morgan and Ben Stiller.

Many former players and celebrities attended this crucial game at Madison Square Garden.Ā While the improbable Philadelphia comeback shocked comedian Jon Stewart (who later had a hilarious tweet about it), none seemed angrier after Maxey’s heroics than Morgan and Stiller.

Take a look at the replay of Maxey’s celebration and see if you can spot the pure rage and vitriol from Morgan, the comedian who is widely known for his work on 30 Rock:

In case you didn’t catch Morgan’s rage in the video above, perhaps a screenshot will help.

Morgan seemed genuinely upset at Maxey and even gave him a middle finger:

But sitting next to Morgan was Stiller, the Emmy Award-winning actor and comedian.

Take a look again and this time just focus on Stiller, who manifested his anger in a much different way:

After the game, like Stewart did, Stiller tweeted out his respect for Maxey.

He also predicted that the Knicks will finish the series up in Philadelphia.

Jon Stewart had the funniest tweet after his reaction to the Tyrese Maxey 3-pointer became a meme

Jon Stewart had the best (worst?) seats in the house for this brutal loss.

Knicks fan and comedian Jon Stewart had amazing seats when Tyrese Maxey and the 76ers stormed back to force overtime in Game 5 on Tuesday.

Maxey, who had a stunning 3-pointer in the final seconds of regulation at Madison Square Garden in New York, took the air out of what was otherwise a ruckus building.

His incredible shot left many New York fans, including Stewart, shocked. As he celebrated his accomplishment, Stewart’s priceless reaction was captured in the background on the broadcast.

After the game, once he had time to process what happened and check his phone to see that his reaction turned into a meme, Stewart tweeted out his thoughts.

He said that while has has “respect” for what Maxey did against his beloved Knicks, he is “clearly” getting too old for this type of heartbreak.

Fortunately for Stewart, the Knicks still maintain a series lead over the 76ers. But his favorite NBA team could have advanced to the next round with a win against Philadelphia and now they’ll have to extend the series.

Jon Stewart’s stunned reaction to Tyrese Maxey’s epic 3-pointer to force OT in 76ers-Knicks was priceless

We get it, Jon Stewart. We get it.

Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey hit the shot of the playoffs so far on Tuesday night as he drilled a stunning 3-pointer from near halfcourt to send Game 5 of his team’s playoff series with the New York Knicks to overtime.

The cold-blooded bucket further proves why Maxey is a shining star in this new generation of NBA players, and why Knicks fans just can’t have nice things, even when they’re in Madison Square Garden.

Well, Maxey stunned the MSG crowd, part-time Daily Show host Jon Stewart included. A camera caught the legendary comedian’s reaction to the Maxey 3-pointer, one of absolutely befuddlement at what in the world just happened.

Stewart’s shocked reaction was just priceless, as anyone who has ever had a basket scored on their team like that in the playoffs can empathize with just how jarring it is.

The 76ers prevented being eliminated with the 112-106 overtime victory, keeping its hopes alive of evening things out later this week. Like all Knicks fans, Stewart will probably keep ruminating on how this happened, especially if Philly pulls off the improbable 3-1 series comeback.

Kristaps Porzingisā€™ Celtics injury might open the door to a closer Eastern Conference title race

The Knicks are definitely watching Kristaps Porzingis’ injury situation closely.

The Boston Celtics were comfortably the best team in NBA basketball during the regular season. After going up 3-1 on a shorthanded Miami Heat team in the first round, the Celtics should be glowing about being on the verge of advancing to the Eastern Conference Semifinals soon.

Instead, they’re holding their breath about center Kristaps Porzingis’s status.

During Game 4’s blowout win in Miami, Porzingis appeared to hurt his calf on a non-contact injury while handing the ball off to Jaylen Brown. It did not look good as the Boston center left the game to go to the locker room and didn’t return after playing just 14 minutes. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Porzingis will undergo further testing on Tuesday but that early indications are that he didn’t suffer an Achilles injury.

That said, it does not nearly mean Porzingis or the Celtics are out of the woods:

Even if Porzingis avoided a disastrous season-ending injury, it does not seem like he’ll be back in the Boston lineup any time soon. If Porzingis is forced to miss any significant time, the Celtics are capable of winning and making a deep postseason run. Still, they are decidedly much more vulnerable without their starting big man, who was the team’s third-leading scorer, second-leading rebounder, and leader in blocks during the regular season.

You don’t just replace that kind of scoring, rebounding, and rim protection by playing hard and together with the players you still have available. These Celtics are more or less dependent on Porzingis taking pressure off of guys like Jayson Tatum, Brown, and Derrick White. He is too big of a piece to their title aspirations to simply wave off any possible extended absence.

All of this to say: Porzingis’ health status might open the door to a legitimate upset in the Eastern Conference title race, let alone the NBA championship.

Per oddsmakers with DraftKings, the Celtics are still heavily favored with -245 odds to win the East. Meanwhile, the tough New York Knicks come in second with +400 odds, while the young Indiana Pacers have the third-best odds at +1100. But those odds might not yet be accounting for Porzingis’ injury:

If I’m gonna be honest, I wouldn’t have entirely trusted the Celtics against a hard-nosed Knicks team, even with Porzingis in a potential Eastern Conference Finals matchup.

The Knicks are one of those teams that defends incredibly, has a real superstar in Jalen Brunson, and constantly makes all the little winning plays. They already had the capacity to beat a full-strength Celtics team. If that feasible matchup happens without Porzingis (just about three weeks from now), I’d be very comfortable betting on the Knicks’ chances of pulling off the upset.

If you’re looking for a good longshot bet to upset these seemingly vulnerable Celtics, the Pacers might not be a bad idea. (Especially since they appear likely to play the Knicks in the second round.) Tyrese Haliburton has grown up before our eyes in his first postseason, while Pascal Siakam and Myles Turner give Indiana the requisite size to abuse a Boston team that could be without its starting center.

The Celtics are likely to advance to the second round of the NBA playoffs for the sixth time in the last seven seasons. But if they don’t have Porzingis moving forward, it’ll be much harder to count on their run through the Eastern Conference lasting as long as they hope.

NBA fans made Ben Simmons jokes when Joel Embiid passed up a crucial wide-open jumper

Somewhere, Ben Simmons was probably laughing.

In a hard-fought series against the New York Knicks, it feels like every mistake has cost the Philadelphia 76ers dearly. What happened at the end of Philadelphia’s loss on Sunday to give the Knicks a 3-1 series lead looked especially brutal.

With the 76ers trying to mount a late comeback, Joel Embiid found himself wide-open for a short mid-range jumper that would’ve made it a one-score game. Instead, he pump-faked, drove into the teeth of the Knicks’ defense for the lay-up, and missed altogether. It seemed eerily reminiscent of ex-76er Ben Simmons passing up an easy dunk in a Game 7 loss against the Atlanta Hawks a few years ago.

Check it out via a video from a Twitter user below:

Oof. That’s gotta sting for the 76ers, particularly now that they face a 3-1 series deficit and have no margin for error.

To be fair to Embiid, he was probably the only reason this was even a close game in the fourth quarter. The superstar stuffed the stat sheet with 27 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, three steals, and two blocks. This happened while All-Star Tyrese Maxey teammate shot just 8-of-21 from the field, and other key contributors like Tobias Harris scored only 10 points.

However, Embiid is the 76ers’ engine. He still scored a single point in the fourth quarter after playing the entire second half of a game for the first time in his career. (Never mind that the Knicks won the fourth-quarter rebounding battle far and away without a true center on the floor.) 76ers head coach Nick Nurse defended the decision because Philadelphia really needed this win, but it’s hard not to think that getting some rest would’ve helped Embiid, especially with his clutch time decision-making.

Embiid’s brutal decision at the very end probably didn’t lose the 76ers this game by itself, but the optics will be impossible to escape. It’s only natural it reminded NBA fans of Simmons’ infamous blunder.

Watch: Former Warrior Donte DiVincenzo hits Knicks’ game-winning 3-pointer vs. Sixers

The former Warrior hit a game-winning 3-pointer to give the Knicks a 2-0 lead over the Sixers in the first round of the playoffs.

While the Golden State Warriors season is over, the first round of the NBA postseason is in full swing. During the 2024 edition of the playoffs, 11 former members of the Warriors are on the floor around the league.

On Monday night, an ex-Warrior took over playoff headlines with a game-winning shot at Madison Square Garden. In Game 2 of the New York Knicks’ first-round battle against the Philadelphia 76ers, Donte DiVincenzo drilled a 3-pointer in the final seconds to deliver the Knicks a 104-101 lead over the Sixers.

Seconds before his game-winner, DiVincenzo missed an open look from beyond the arc. However, a heroic rebound from Isaiah Hartenstein gave the former Warrior turned Knick another chance. DiVincenzo hit his go-ahead triple with 13 seconds on the clock that set the New York crowd into a frenzy.

DiVincenzo’s 3-pointer earned a rare “double-bang” call from legendary broadcaster Mike Breen.

Via @KnicksMSGN on Twitter:

DiVincenzo finished with 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field with four made 3-pointers to go along with four rebounds and three assists as the Knicks went on to take a two-game lead over the Sixers.

Knicks fans loved alumni like Carmelo Anthony celebrating a playoff win at Madison Square Garden

This was an AWESOME atmosphere in New York.

During New Yorkā€™s comeback victory against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night, some of the greatest Knicks of all time attended.

A few of the most legendary players to ever suit up in the history of the franchise all went to Madison Square Garden for Game 2 of the opening round against the 76ers in the Eastern Conference postseason.

That includes Carmelo Anthony, John Starks, Latrell Sprewell, Larry Johnson, Tim Thomas, and more. All of these New York legends helped create an amazing playoff atmosphere on Monday night.

Their presence helped get the fans excited but the former players, who created an Alumni Row of sorts, seemed thrilled as well.

Folks seemed genuinely thrilled to have these familiar faces back in the building.

Some of the best moments from New York

Monica McNuttā€™s rollercoaster of emotions while calling the Knicksā€™ comeback vs. 76ers was so amazing

Knicks analyst Monica McNutt is SO good at this.

Knicks analyst Monica McNutt had a difficult job during New York’s comeback victory against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday.

While on the radio call for ESPN NY 98.7, she had to stay composed while her play-by-play broadcasting partner summarized the chaos at the end of the game. This resulted in an all-timer of a call on the TV broadcast from Mike Breen.

As the Philadelphia announcers prematurely called it a win for the 76ers, those in the radio booth for New York waited patiently until the finish line. This wasn’t easy, but fans fortunately got a sneak behind the curtain about what it looked like for McNutt to watch the final stretch unfold.

McNutt silently surveyed and studied the game as the clock inched closer to its final buzzer.

While no one was able to hear her during these moments, all the while, her facial expressions indicated she was still experiencing the roller-coaster of a finish that all the fans did as well. She is feelingĀ allĀ the feelings.

After waiting a beat during New York’s marvelous comeback, McNutt was then somehow able to find herself perfectly composed as she provided some excellent color commentary describing what just happened.

“This is unreal. You talk about a team that refuses to quit and has been saying since the last dozen games of the regular season as loudly and proudly as anyone will listen: ‘We will find a way.’ Jalen Brunson has had a flat-out terrible basketball game but knocks down a three to make it a one possession ballgame. The scramble, the rebound, and Donte DiVincenzo — who set a new Knick high in 3-pointers made adds one more in this postseason. Oh my God.”

She did not hold back about how crazy the finish was for the Knicks but still managed to sound far more reasonable with her reaction than most could ever imagine.

‘Job done’: 76ers announcers made a very premature call before the Knicks’ amazing Game 2 comeback

Oops.

Oooops.

This happens sometimes in sports — a game looks over or a moment happens and an announcer prematurely calls it, only to be wrong.

That happened badly on Monday night, with the Philadelphia 76ers up six points on the New York Knicks with under 47 seconds left. Alaa Abdelnaby said, “The goal is getting homecourt advantage by winning one of the two games on the road. Job done. Let’s head down to the turnpike.”

Kate Scott added that the postgame show would be “fun.” And then? Well, it all fell apart for the Sixers and the job was not, in fact, done as the Knicks scored two threes and won Game 2.

Brutal.
