The New York Knicks (1-1) travel to meet the New Orleans Pelicans (1-0) Saturday. Tip-off from Smoothie King Center is set for 7 p.m. ET (NBA TV). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Knicks vs. Pelicans odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; tied 1-1 last season

New York beat the Atlanta Hawks Friday in a 126-120 battle, covering as a 1-point favorite. New York was lifted to the win thanks to G Jalen Brunson and G RJ Barrett combining for 57 points on 11-for-17 shooting from 3. The Knicks’ key to success in this win was 3-point efficiency as they shot 45.5% (20-44) from beyond the arc as a unit.

New Orleans picked up a 111-104 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in its season opener Wednesday, covering as a 1-point underdog. The Pelicans’ stars carried in the win as F Zion Williamson, F Brandon Ingram and G CJ McCollum combined for 66 total points. New Orleans allowed this to be a much closer game than it needed to be thanks to the Pelicans committing 21 turnovers.

Knicks at Pelicans picks and predictions

Prediction

Pelicans 113, Knicks 108

Moneyline

BET PELICANS (-150).

I like this to be a game that will come down to which duo plays the best, and I like the duo of F Zion Williamson and F Brandon Ingram more than the duo of F Julius Randle and Brunson. I also like the Pelicans’ surrounding pieces as they have guys that can defend and a big that can rebound, bruise and stretch in Jonas Valanciunas. New Orleans is the more well-rounded team and I like their star power over that of New York.

Against the spread

LEAN PELICANS -3.5 (-105).

I liked what I saw from New York shooting wise in the win vs. Atlanta, but there were a lot of things that needed fixing as well. New York only won by 6 despite holding all-star G Trae Young to 18 points. The Knicks were outscored in the paint 54-40 vs. an Atlanta team will forwards much less skilled offensively than that of the Pelicans, and they turned the ball over 16 times. Look for those trends to continue and for New York to revert back to the mean 3-point shooting wise.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 223.5 (-110).

New York is coming off a very hot shooting night, but I don’t expect that to continue. I expect F Herbert Jones should have some success containing the shooting of Barrett and will be able to limit his overall impact on offense. I expect the Knicks to have some trouble scoring from the perimeter, and I also like the Knicks to turn the ball over at least 15 times, further preventing them from scoring the ball.

Knicks at Pelicans picks and predictions

Prediction

Pelicans 117, Knicks 114

Moneyline

AVOID.

The Knicks have been playing well lately, but the Pelicans are in a situation in which winning is far more of a priority and should have that motivation. New York is locked into the 5th seed in the Eastern Conference, while the Pelicans are in a log jam in the Western Conference and need to win to give themselves their base chance at avoiding the Play-In Tournament or potentially earning home-court advantage in the Play-In Tournament.

However, New Orleans (-350) isn’t worth risking 3 1/2 times your potential return on.

Against the spread

LEAN KNICKS +8.5 (-115).

The Knicks are 4-2 ATS over their last 6 road games and 7-4 ATS over their last 11 games. They have won 5 straight games straight up and took down the Pacers without their top-3 scoring options Wednesday. Backups, like G Immanuel Quickley, have been able to pick up the scoring load.

The Pelicans are 3-2 ATS over their last 5 and really had no business covering in overtime against the Grizzlies in their last game. New Orleans is just 3-2 straight up over its last 5 as well.

Ultimately, the Knicks’ backups have played well enough to trust them here. Play KNICKS +8.5 (-115).

Over/Under

BET OVER 223.5 (-110).

The Pelicans put up 138 on the Grizzlies and have scored 120 or more in 2 of their last 3 games, hitting the Over in both. They are 3-4 O/U in their last 7.

The Knicks are 3-0 O/U in their last 3 contests, 43-36-1 O/U on the year and 7-3 O/U in their last 10 games. They have scored 118 or more points in 3 straight and have a group that can score efficiently even with the big names sitting out.

New York ranks 3rd in offensive rating since the All-Star break and should have no trouble scoring on New Orleans. Back the OVER 223.5 (-110).

Analyzing Saturday’s New York Knick at New Orleans Saints odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Knicks are off to a great start this season and scoring at a high clip. They are second in the NBA averaging 115.8 points per game, led by F Julius Randle’s 23.0 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. Five players are averaging double-digits in scoring.

Knicks at Pelicans odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Knicks 112, Pelicans 100

Money line

There is no reason to think that the Knicks will fall to the short-handed Pelicans.

Although New Orleans has kept their last two games close, the Knicks have been winning close games. Three of their four wins have been by 4 or fewer points. That won’t be the case tonight.

Take the KNICKS (-240).

Against the spread

As previously mentioned, four of the Knicks’ five wins have been by fewer than 5 points. They are 4-1 ATS, only failing to cover a 12-point spread in a loss to the Orlando Magic.

The Pelicans are 3-3 ATS on the season but 1-2 ATS at home.

I just don’t think they will have the firepower to keep up with New York.

Take the KNICKS -5.5 (-120).

Over/Under

None of the Knicks’ last three games have reached 215 total points, but their games average 224.6 total points on the season. The Pelicans are 2-4 O/U and none of the four games that stayed Under the projected total reached 215 points.

The Pelicans’ games average 211.2 points per game.

Take UNDER 214.5 (-107).

Knicks at Pelicans: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Knicks 109, Pelicans 106

Money line (ML)

These are two evenly matched teams so it’s no surprise the Pelicans are favored slightly at home but the Knicks boast an elite defense and New Orleans will be missing Ball.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Knicks are getting 2.5 points from New Orleans.

The Knicks are 12-7 ATS as road underdogs this season and they’re 17-11 ATS overall on the road; the Pelicans are just 14-15 ATS at home.

Bet the KNICKS +2.5 (-110) to cover with 2 points of insurance.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Under has been on a roll lately when these teams meet. The total has gone Under in 13 of the last 18 meetings.

The total has also gone Under 10 times in the Knicks’ last 15 games.

Bet the UNDER 218.5 (-110).
