Oddsmakers think little of Jets in sudden matchup vs. Dolphins

The Jets enter Week 6 as underdogs against the Miami Dolphins.

The Jets were thrown a bit of curveball for their Week 6 matchup, as Gang Green will now face the Dolphins instead of the Chargers due to the NFL reshuffling it’s schedule after a number of positive COVID-19 tests.

New York has allowed 161 points through five weeks and is set to face a Miami team that just put up 43 points on San Francisco. The 49ers beat the Jets, 31-13, in Week 2 with a number of backups filling in for injured starters.

Coming into the season, the Jets and Dolphins were projected to be neck and neck for last place in the AFC East. Instead, the Dolphins are 2-3 and they were competitive in their losses against three potential playoff teams in the Patriots, Bills and Seahawks. On the other hand, the Jets have held a lead in just one game this season, and they didn’t maintain it.

After ditching Adam Gase for Brian Flores, the Dolphins are at a much better place from a personnel and coaching standpoint than their division counterparts. So it’s no surprise that oddsmakers view Miami as eight-point favorites this week, according to BetMGM.

The total over-under for Sunday’s game is set at 47.5 points with the Dolphins holding at -106 and the Jets holding at -115. New York possesses a money line of +305 at an eight-point disadvantage. Against the spread, both teams hold the same odds at -110.

Last season, the Jets were fortunate enough to split the season series with Miami. In early December, New York barely eeked out a 22-21 victory on a Sam Ficken game-winning field goal, which was set up by a questionable call. The Jets will need some of that luck to carry over on Sunday.
