New York Islanders at Tampa Bay Lightning odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s New York Islanders at Tampa Bay Lightning odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The New York Islanders (5-4-2) travel to meet the Tampa Bay Lightning (7-3-3) Monday at Amalie Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Islanders vs. Lightning odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Islanders have been off since Thursday when they were quieted by the New Jersey Devils in Newark by a 4-0 count. The Isles have dropped the past two games, outscored by a 9-2 margin.

The Lightning edged the Florida Panthers 3-2 in overtime Saturday, improved to 5-0-2 across the past seven. The last loss in regulation was Oct. 25 in Buffalo, of all places.

Islanders at Lightning projected goalies

Ilya Sorokin (5-3-2, 2.18 GAA, .933 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy (6-2-3, 2.31 GAA, .921 SV%)

Sorokin has posted shutouts in three of his past six starts. He allowed four goals on 34 shots last time out in New Jersey Thursday. In a strange quirk, all 10 of his starts have come on the road this season.

Each of Vasilevskiy’s past three starts have ended up going to overtime, with a win against the Panthers last time out Saturday. Before that he was on the short end of a pair of 2-1 overtime setbacks.

Islanders at Lightning odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Lighting 3, Islanders 2

Money line

The LIGHTNING (-145) are a solid play on home ice. While the Islanders (+120) have been getting tremendous goaltending lately, and that’s reason for concern, the defending champs have a pretty good tendy themselves.

Against the spread

The Islanders +1.5 (-230) will cost you more than two times your potential return if you want a little bit of insurance on the puck line. You can’t trust the Lightning -1.5 (+170), as two of their past three wins have been by one goal.

PASS.

Over/Under

The UNDER 5.5 (-145) is the lean here, as the total has gone Under at a 7-2-1 clip across the past 10 games overall for the Islanders. The Under is also 4-1-2 in the past seven for New York against winning teams.

The Under has also cashed in four of the past five for the Lightning, while going 5-2-3 in the past 10 meetings in this series, too.

New York Islanders at Tampa Bay Lightning Game 7 odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s New York Islanders at Tampa Bay Lightning Game 7 NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks and predictions.

The New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning play Game 7 of their Stanley Cup Semifinals series Friday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Amalie Arena. Below, we analyze the Islanders vs. Lightning odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders were tattooed 8-0 the last time they visited the Suncoast in Game 5 as they were pushed to the brink. New York responded in Game 6, winning 3-2 in overtime on home ice to force a decisive Game 7.

In their three home games this series, the Lightning have outscored the Islanders 13-4, winning two of the outings. Tampa Bay has scored 36 total goals (4.5 goals per contest) in its eight home games in these playoffs.

Islanders at Lightning: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 5:27 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Islanders +145 (bet $100 to win $145) | Lightning -175 (bet $175 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Islanders +1.5 (-190) | Lightning -1.5 (+155)
  • Over/Under: 5 (O: -125 | U: +105)

Islanders at Lightning: Projected starting goalies

Semyon Varlamov (19-11-4, 2.04 GAA, .929 SV%, 7 SO) vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy (31-10-1, 2.21 GAA, .925 SV%, 5 SO). Stats from regular season.

Varlamov was pulled in Game 5 after coughing up three goals on just 16 shots in 15:27 of the first period. He responded in Game 6 like the true professional he is, turning aside 22 of 24 shots in an elimination game Wednesday as the Isles won 3-2 in OT.

Vasilevskiy posted the shutout in Game 5 on home ice, his third blanking of the postseason. He wasn’t terrible in Game 6, allowing three goals on 28 shots, but Varlamov was just a touch better.

Islanders at Lightning: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lightning 2, Islanders 1

Money line (ML)

The LIGHTNING (-175) are moderate favorites in this decisive Game 7, and I expect it will be a nail-biter. It certainly won’t be the blowout we saw in Game 5, the last time these teams skated at Amalie.

Neither team will be keen to take dangerous chances, potentially allowing the opposition an opportunity the other way. So, regardless of which side you play, expect those butterflies in your stomach all night.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The ISLANDERS +1.5 (-190) will cost almost two times your potential return. That’s not usually something I’d advocate, but I think it’s a guarantee that this will be a one-goal game. Four of the six meetings in this series have been decided by one goal with Game 6 going to overtime. I wouldn’t be surprised if this one isn’t decided in regulation, either.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5 (+105) at plus-money is a tremendous value as scoring will be at a premium in this Game 7. Four games in this series have had a total of five or fewer goals.

Playing UNDER 5.5 (-165) on the alternate line might be a better option if you’d like a little more wiggle room, although, I don’t think you’ll need it.

New York Islanders at Tampa Bay Lightning Game 5 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Tampa Bay Lightning at New York Islanders Game 5 odds and lines, with NHL picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning play Game 5 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs third-round series Monday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Amalie Arena. Below, we analyze the Islanders-Lightning odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Lightning were looking to push the Islanders to the brink in Game 4, but New York had other plans Saturday night. They leveled the series 2-2, setting up a decisive Game 5.

It was a razor thin margin as Islanders rearguard Ryan Pulock sacrificed his body in the crease in the final seconds to keep the game-tying goal out of the net.

Islanders at Lightning: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:50 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Islanders +155 (bet $100 to win $155) | Lightning -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Islanders +1.5 (-175) | Lightning -1.5 (+145)
  • Over/Under: 5 (O: -145 | U: +120)

Islanders at Lightning: Projected starting goalies

Semyon Varlamov (19-11-4, 2.04 GAA, .929 SV%, 7 SO) vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy (31-10-1, 2.21 GAA, .925 SV%, 5 SO). Stats from regular season.

Varlamov was outstanding in Game 4 turning aside 28 of the 30 shots he faced to help level the series. He has allowed two or fewer goals in three of his four starts in the series and six of his previous eight games overall.

Vasilevskiy made 27 saves on Saturday, but he allowed three goals. That snapped a four-game streak with two or fewer goals or just five total allowed.

Islanders at Lightning: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lightning 3, Islanders 2

Money line (ML)

The LIGHTNING (-190) are listed slightly higher than my personal money line limit of -180, but I actually like them here on home ice in a decisive Game 5. This is where Tampa Bay will show its championship mettle, pushing New York to the brink, but it will be a narrow victory.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The ISLANDERS +1.5 (-175) aren’t too terribly expensive on the puck line. Three of the first four games in this series have decided by one goal, and this big Game 5 won’t be any different.

Over/Under (O/U)

The TOTAL 5 should be a push, as I expect five total goals. As such, play the UNDER 5.5 (-150) on the alternate line. It’s a much better play in what should be a tight game with goals at a premium.

New York Islanders at Tampa Bay Lightning Game 2 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s New York Islanders at Tampa Bay Lightning Game 2 NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning play Game 2 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs third-round series Tuesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Amalie Arena. Below, we analyze the Islanders-Lightning odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Islanders scratched out a 2-1 victory at Tampa on Sunday, as Mathew Barzal and Ryan Pulock notched even-strength goals to back Semyon Varlamov, who nearly had the shutout.

Brayden Point scored a power-play goal with an extra attacker, as the Lightning made things interesting in the final minute. However, they wouldn’t find a way to equalize things and head into Game 2 down 1-0 in the series.

Islanders at Lightning: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:49 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Islanders +165 (bet $100 to win $165) | Lightning -200 (bet $200 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Islanders +1.5 (-165) | Lightning -1.5 (+140)
  • Over/Under: 5 (O: -130 | U: +110)

Islanders at Lightning: Projected starting goalies

Semyon Varlamov (19-11-4, 2.04 GAA, .929 SV%, 7 SO) at Andrei Vasilevskiy (31-10-1, 2.21 GAA, .925 SV%, 5 SO). Stats from regular season.

Varlamov allowed just the late power-play goal with an extra attacker, stopping 30 of the 31 shots he faced in the series opener. He has allowed three or fewer goals in five of his last six starts.

Vasilevskiy wasn’t terrible in Game 1, allowing two goals on 31 shots, but the offense couldn’t bail him out. He has allowed three or fewer goals in eight of his previous nine outings.

Special NHL Betting Promotion!

Bet $1 on either team’s money line, WIN $100 (in free bets) if either team scores a goal in the game. Betting offer available in CO, IA, IN, MI, NJ, PA, TN, VA, WV and Washington D.C. Place your legal, online bets at BetMGM. New customer offer, terms and conditions apply. Bet now!

Islanders at Lightning: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lightning 3, Islanders 2

Money line (ML)

The LIGHTNING (-200) will cost you two times your potential return, and that’s over my personal money line of -180. However, it’s not terribly out of line, as I fully expect Tampa Bay to bounce back and take care of business on home ice, squaring the series before shifting to the Island.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The ISLANDERS +1.5 (-165) aren’t terribly expensive for a puck line underdog, and this one should be close just like Game 1. New York has won four straight as an underdog, and three of their four losses in the postseason have been by just one goal.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Total 5 (O: -130 | U: +110) is not a good play, as I expect this game to land right on the number. However, playing the alternate line of UNDER 5.5 (-160) is the way to go here – just play it lightly.
