WATCH: New York Giants At Washington Football Team, Week 2, Key Facts, Stats

Taylor Heinicke started a playoff game last season, but this will be his first regular-season start for the Washington Football Team.

The Washington Football Team will start quarterback Taylor Heinicke in Week 2 after veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick sustained a hip injury in the season opener. This will be Heinicke’s first regular-season start for Washington and second overall in the NFL (one game for Carolina in 2018).

Heinicke did start Washington’s wild-card playoff game last season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has registered 137 or fewer passing yards in eight of his nine previous regular-season appearances, but Washington is favored in this one against the New York Giants. Go to Tipico Sportsbook for the most updated odds.

New York Giants at Washington Football Team odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing the Week 2 New York Giants at Washington Football Team Thursday Night Football odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

Both the New York Giants (0-1) and Washington Football Team (0-1) will be seeking their first wins of the season Thursday night when they square off at FedExField. Kickoff will be at 8:20 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Giants vs. Washington odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Giants were blown out at home in Week 1, losing 27-13 to the Denver Broncos. The game wasn’t even as close as the score indicates, either, considering QB Daniel Jones scrambled for a touchdown as time expired to pull New York within two scores after trailing 27-7. New York allowed 420 total yards to Denver, including 165 yards on the ground in its Week 1 loss.

Washington also lost at home, falling 20-16 to the Los Angeles Chargers. The game was decided by a 3-yard touchdown pass from QB Justin Herbert to WR Mike Williams in the fourth quarter that put the Chargers up by 4. Washington played most of the game without QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, who suffered a hip injury and has since landed on injured reserve, so it’ll be QB Taylor Heinicke under center on Thursday Night Football.

Giants at Washington odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Washington 20, Giants 14

Money line

Neither of these teams looked particularly good in Week 1, but Washington was facing a team that could contend for an AFC West title in the Chargers, and it nearly pulled out a win despite losing its starting QB. The Giants were especially bad against the Broncos, failing to move the ball with any sort of consistency.

Washington’s defense is even better than Denver’s and should give New York trouble. Bet WASHINGTON (-180) to win outright at home.

Against the spread

As tough as it will be for Washington to play this one without Fitzpatrick, Heinicke is a capable quarterback and played relatively well in spot duty last year. Jones has yet to improve for the Giants and continues to turn the ball over, so I’m expecting Washington to take it away a couple of times.

I like WASHINGTON -3.5 (-105) to cover the spread and win by 4 or more points.

Over/Under

The total went Under the projected line in the season openers for both the Giants and Washington. New York scored just 13 points against Denver and Washington was limited to 16 against the Chargers, finding the end zone only once.

Even with the total being on the lower side for this game, I like the UNDER 40.5 (-105) Thursday night.

First look: New York Giants at Washington Football Team odds and lines, Heinicke takes over for injured Fitzpatrick

Looking at Thursday’s New York Giants at Washington Football Team Week 2 NFL odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

The Washington Football Team (0-1) host the NFC East rival New York Giants (0-1) on Thursday Night Football at FedExField with the kickoff scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Giants vs. Washington odds and lines; check back for our NFL picks and predictions.

New York took a 27-13 loss in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos as 2.5-point home underdogs. Giants RB Saquon Barkley was bottled up—running for just 26 yards on 10 carries—in his first game back after suffering a season-ending injury last year.

Washington was also dropped at home, 20-16, as 2-point favorites and first-year QB Ryan Fitzpatrick exited the game in the first quarter with a hip injury. Fitzpatrick is expected to miss a few games, and his replacement, QB Taylor Heinicke, completed 11-of-15 passes for 122 yards with 1 TD, 0 INT and a 119.3 QB Rating in fill-in duty.

Giants at Washington head-to-head

Though New York hasn’t had a winning season since 2016, the Giants are 6-2 overall against Washington from 2017-2020 (5-3 against the spread) including five consecutive victories.

New York QB Daniel Jones is a perfect 4-0 vs. Washington with an 8 TD-to-3 INT ratio, a 68.3% completion rate, 225.3 yards per game and a 100.0 QB Rating. Washington backup QB Kyle Allen suffered a season-ending broken ankle last year in Week 9, and New York has yet to face Heinicke.

Washington is hoping to be the first NFC East team to win back-to-back divisional crowns since the Philadelphia Eagles did so from 2001-04. However, Philly is the only NFC East team that won its Week 1 game.

Giants at Washington: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Washington 20, Giants 17

Money line (?)

These teams are fairly evenly matched, but not for the right reasons. They’ve both been terrible offensively, lacking consistent play at quarterback, but Washington’s defense is superior to New York’s.

For that reason, I’ll take WASHINGTON (-143) to win outright with its defensive line giving the Giants’ pass protectors fits all game long. Giants QB Daniel Jones is good for a turnover or two each week.

Against the spread (?)

After being underdogs in their first meeting, Washington is a 2.5-point home favorite. The Giants have been competitive in their last four games, all of which have been decided by three or fewer points. Washington, on the other hand, has been blown out much more often.

Still, I’m taking WASHINGTON -2.5 (-110) at home, as it relies on its defense to carry the load and win by at least 3 points.

Over/Under (?)

Washington hasn’t topped 27 points yet this season and has scored more than 20 only twice. The Giants aren’t much better, scoring more than 23 points only once. These offenses will remain suspect Sunday, while the defenses step up.

Take the UNDER 42.5 (-106) with the point total coming in below 42.5 points.
